Poll Captain America: TWS vs. X-Men: DOFP (174 votes)
... Had to be done! I checked if it already was, nada - at least not in this forum. So, which film do you prefer/like better?

Cap. It was enjoyable from beginning to end. DOFP was phenomenal but there were a few parts that either dragged or were quickly handled (especially the beginning).
Also (this may seem unfair to some degree), I hate that DOFP was a "make up" film rather than just an X-Men film. It's taken Fox too long to get everything (or most things) right as they did here. It's bad knowing that a major reason this movie was made was to make up for past mistakes. And no, I didn't make that up, even the writers and Bryan Singer have said the same thing.
Cap for me.
X men by a landslide.

See, I feel the opposite way. X-Men held my attention all the way through, no scenes felt unnessary or boring. Cap, though I enjoyed it quite a bit, it kinda lost my interest here and there. An example is when Cap and Scarlet widow went to see Nick Fury, who, surprise, surpise, wasn't dead. Also, them going to the army base just to get exposition on how Hydra got into SHIELD felt like it went on too long.
@the_stegman: Thing is, the entire future section of the film fits the exact criteria for being unnecessary and boring for me. I lost a lot of interest in the future scenes of the film. They were overly dark, depressing and overcrowded with glorified cameos, not characters I could care about. That's what dragged the film down to a 4 star film for me. In contrast, TWS had much better pacing and tighter handling on its central storyline as opposed to flashes between past and future. But that's just my thoughts on the matter, I can see why the past scenes were good enough for everyone to go ga ga over DOFP.

This first part sums up my thoughts too having just seen DOFP today.

Yeah, I get you, to me, the past is the meat and potatoes of the film, the future scenes are there just to remind you that those characters exist, but in my case, they were brief enough that it didn't matter, and although characters didn't develop that much, some of their deaths did hit me in the feels, so it's what made me like the future scenes..plus, those Sentinels were bada**.
DOFP was better from a movie making standpoint and had better acting and story. It also had better character development. Seeing magneto and Charles interact and fight and become friends was awesome, and then there was the whole thing with Mystique and her growth as a character and person, and the theme of discrimination and genocide all throughout the movie. Way better and more interesting than all the "trust issues" stuff in Cap TWS. You can't trust anyone. OK we get it. That's pretty obvious in the business cap is in, and winter soldier wasn't in the movie enough.
Not saying cap was a bad movie, I liked it a lot, I'm just pointing out why DOFP was way better imo.

He didn't appear very much at all in the original comic storyline.
@wolverine08: That's odd considering his name is in the title. The plot didn't seem to focus around him as much as I thought it would.
I loved Bucky in TWS but I will go DOFP as a whole. Ive always liked the ensemble casts in X men films. (Minus Wolverine solo ones)
X men by a landslide.
DoFP wins for me.
The rant starts here:
Winter Soldier was basically enjoyable, but also suffered greatly from creative difficulties.
- Steve Rogers was a flake, his agency severely disproportionate to his strength of character thanks to his super powers and the effect his reputation has on other people (taking control of the situation in the third act). He is in this film a product of the MCU's emphasizing his wide-eyed idealism over his convictions (MCU Cap has no convictions, only things that rub him the wrong way).
- Rather than acting as a foil of some sort to Rogers, Falcon is as saintly as he is (though this is consistent with the comics).
- Black Widow spews a stream of BS during the army base detour (something about the truth being relative), and Steve doesn't call her out on it.
- The script was clearly twisted at some point so that Nick Fury could continue to be an irreproachable white knight of all things good somehow, despite being head of SHIELD for the entire Insight affair. Redford's character takes all the blame, so we can have a nice, neat Disney happy ending.
- The Iron Man reference didn't add anything to the movie.
- The movie had HYDRA behind everything, instead of having Cap display his fortitude by standing up to his own corrupt and self-righteous (spying on its own people, by Coulson's admission, in fiction as in real life) government.
However, Winter Soldier himself is badass, and the action was as good as I've seen in a superhero movie.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier without a doubt. X-Men: Days of Future Past was good, but I think it's a little overhyped.
@the_stegman: Oh the past scenes were undeniably great mate, I have no disagreement with you on those. At best, I could nitpick but that wouldn't do justice to how well the past scenes develop most of its characters, flesh out the plot and run on some great themes like persecution and genocide. Best of all, the film didn't turn into a "Wolverine hogs the limelight one" which is a definite improvement from early X-Men films. He was there and a main role at that but he didn't detract from anyone else.
Cap. I felt like they got everything right in this movie. The tone, the action, the actors, and everyone got just enough screen time. I felt like the movie couldn't have been any better after I left the theater. DoFP I highly enjoyed, but I felt the opposite way. This movie focused way too much on Wolverine & Mystique, & everyone else (except McAvoy, Holt, & Fassbender) were pretty much limited to cameos. The future X-Men were badass in their scenes but had such few speaking roles & I didn't like how the Sentinels were so overpowered. The X-men didn't stand a chance and I felt like that was just a cheap cop out to put the spotlight on the past X-men. Like I said, I highly enjoyed DoFP but it felt like a missed opportunity concerning the future X-men.
@matthewparker said:Why wasn't ASM2 included? Also Cap 2 was better IMO.
In my opinion, as well as many other peoples, ASM2 was enjoyable, but it wasn't on par with TWS and DoFP. I still enjoyed it. It's a B- for me.
Cap. While I think some the hyperbole I heard after TWS was released. ("Greatest Action Film ever") was uncalled for, It was still a very enjoyable film and, I think, the best Comic film this season, over DOFP, ASM2. In fact, better than most of the comic films since 2010.
These 2 movies are both awesome. I have to give my vote to Cap though. The one and only reason why DOFP doesn't edge it out is due to the obscene amount of plot holes. Why can Kitty send people back in time? How is Charles still alive? How does Magneto still have his powers? Why does Wolverine still have adamantium claws? It does say something though that even with all of these holes its neck and neck with, in my opinion, the 2nd best CBM ever.
Cap, but both were INCREDIBLY entertaining and are one of the greatest superhero movies of all time, but Cap is a bit better IMO.
