"They say you can buy almost anything here on the smuggler's moon...if you are willing to pay with your life. That is a price I am unwilling to meet. My life ends only when my rage has been vented, when my need for vengeance is satisfied. It will be a long life." (Darth Maul Issue #02)
This will be my take on the Canon version of my favorite Sith Lord, Darth Maul. It will feature his appearances in his new Canon comic that came out recently, his short appearance in The Phantom Menace, his appearances in the Clone Wars and Rebels TV shows and any other Canon comics that he either shows up in or is mentioned in.
This thread will be divided into the following sections:
- Speed/Agility
- Physicals
- Force Powers
- Martial and Lightsaber Skill

Speed/Agility
(Darth Maul Issue #01) Maul, despite using his lightsaber to melt his way through a door and allow the pirates on the other side to prepare to fight him, is able to deflect all their shots on his lightsaber, even while upside down in the air, and kill them all:

In his battle with Qui-gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Maul fought with "blinding speed and impressive agility":
Darth Maul longed for revenge against the Jedi. He was finally unleashed by his master, Darth Sidious, in an assassination attempt on Queen Amidala on the outskirts of Tatooine. He battled briefly with Qui-Gon Jinn, the Queen's Jedi escort, but could not reach his target. Later, Maul waited for Amidala on Naboo, where he dueled with Qui-Gon and his apprentice, Obi-Wan Kenobi. The Sith fought with blinding speed and impressive agility, and stabbed Jinn through with his red-double bladed lightsaber.

Darth Maul reacts to a surprise attack from Kanan:
Physicals
(Darth Maul Issue #02) Maul kicks an Aqualish hard enough to break through a window, then beats him and two other thugs up before getting inked in the face and distracted. Afterwards, he gets hit by a metal pipe and then smacked in the face by the handle of a sword, yet he remains conscious and has enough focus to use the force to throw a knife into the Aqualish:

(Darth Maul - Son of Dathomir #02) Maul tackles General Grievous hard enough to crack his command ship's viewport glass:
While unlocking and opening the Sith holocron, Maul and Ezra are able to find out that Obi-Wan is alive and that Luke Skywalker is the key to destroying the Sith. When the holocron stops transmitting to them, it unleashes an AOE blast of power around the room he was in. Kanan, Sabine, Hera, and Ezra were all thrown back and needed a few moments to gather themselves, but we see Maul already leaving the station they were on by the time they get up:

General Power
(Darth Maul Issue #03) At the auction for Eldra Kaitus, Maul's anxiousness, anger, and hatred were flowing through him so powerfully that he believed the other patrons around him, ones not even connected to the Force, must have felt it:
When Savage dies, he tells Maul that he could never truly be what Maul was, and that was a true successor to the Sith:
As Savage's life fades, Mother Talzin's dark enchantments fade away in clouds of green mist, and Savage returns to his smaller, natural form. He apologizes to his brother, recognizing that he was never like Maul, never capable of truly being a Sith.

Maul was able to survive being cut in half by focusing on his hatred for Obi-Wan and allowing the dark side to give him enough strength to repair himself:
"You may have forgotten me, but I will never forget you. You cannot imagine the depths I would go to to stay alive, fueled by my singular hatred for you."

Accolades
Darth Maul is one of the "most efficiently trained Sith in the Order's history", which we know goes back a millennia at the very least:
One of the deadliest, most efficiently trained Sith in the Order's history, Darth Maul's tattooed face is as symbolic of his utter devotion to the dark side, as it is marking his hatred of the Jedi.

Darth Maul is described as a "formidable warrior":
A deadly, agile Sith Lord trained by the evil Darth Sidious, Darth Maul was a formidable warrior and scheming mastermind.
Darth Maul's extensive training allowed him to use his double-bladed lightsaber as it was intended or as a single bladed weapon:
The Sith apprentice Darth Maul wielded a double-bladed lightsaber made by joining two hilts together end-to-end. Maul’s dexterity and extensive training allowed him to use his weapon as a single-bladed saber, or to activate both crimson blades and fight multiple opponents at once.

During the time of the Empire's rule between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, Sam Witwer, voice actor for Darth Maul, says that Maul would be an "interesting threat" to Darth vader due to the fact that he is one of the only other classically trained Force user in the galaxy and was trained to be a Sith Lord:
"But, I mean on the other hand, out in the galaxy, away from those guys [Vader and Palpatine], he is one of the only uh, hell I mean I guess he's the only classically trained Force user that's out there right now. So if you know an Inquisitor comes across him, the Inquisitor's in trouble. You know, anyone that's half trained, I mean you know Vader's going around wiping out the Jedi right? At this point, he's [Vader] facing people like Ezra where he's just knocking them aside like they're nothing, which has to give the Emperor a good bit of confidence that they did a good job at wiping these guys out. That the only, the only uh, signs of resistance are these children of the Force and these half-trained apprentices that are just nothing. But Darth Maul is an interesting threat because he was classically trained by the Sith."

Feats
(Darth Maul Issue #01) Maul defeats two rathtars with a large ax and then uses the Force to crash a large branch on a third. Rathtars, according to Maul, are among the most dangerous creatures in the galaxy:
(Darth Maul Issue #01) Before the events of The Phantom Menace, Maul was impatient to test himself against the Jedi, so Sidious allowed him to travel the galaxy and discreetly fight the most "ruthless beings in the galaxy" he could find. No surprise, he came back alive every time:
(Darth Maul Issue #01) Darth Maul defeats a group of pirates despite them being alerted to his attack beforehand and having their weapons trained on the entrance he was coming in:

Qui-Gon vs Darth Maul (Tatooine)
Darth Maul is able to hold his own against both Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi for an extended amount of time, and then once he separates the two of them, he makes quick work of Qui-Gon:
As an undeniable example of his skill and devotion, Maul plunged headlong into battle against the two Jedi warriors. Using his double bladed lightsaber, Maul held off both Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn in the heart of the Theed Royal Palace.

Darth Maul & Savage Opress vs Obi-Wan Kenobi & Asajj Ventress
Darth Maul and Savage Opress fight against Jedi Master's Obi-Wan Kenobi and Adi Gallia. While Maul wasn't able to defeat Obi-Wan by himself, the only reason the duo of him and Savage lost to Obi-Wan by himself is because of Savage's lack of skill, Obi-Wan finding an inner focus that helped him tremendously, and Obi-Wan exploiting a previous "injury" of Savage's, not any lack of skill on Maul's part. It's both a great feat for Obi-Wan as well as a good feat for Maul, being that he was able to fight off against Obi-Wan for a long time:
As the pirates clash, Maul and Savage witness Kenobi's Jedi shuttle land nearby. Maul laments that it is too soon for the Jedi to become involved----his master plan is only just getting started. Maul and Savage ignite their blades, and attack the Jedi. Maul gravitates towards Obi-Wan, while Savage battles Adi.

(Darth Maul - Son of Dathomir #03) In an off-panel fight, Maul was able to hold his own against both Mace Windu and Aayla Secura when the Jedi found his Mandalorian outpost. During the brief fight, Maul manages to kick Secura in the face and if the fight had not been interrupted by Death Watch members intervening, I'm sure Maul wold have killed her:
(Darth Maul - Son of Dathomir #04) Maul duels evenly with General Grievous for a short time before using the Force to send him flying out of the room:
And since these fights are in comic version, a lot of content needed to be cut in order to have the story flow smoothly and not drag on too long. Therefore, we can assume that Maul had legit fights with Grievous, Aayla, and Mace that lasted more than just a few saber locks and blows:
Maul shows clear superiority over all three of the Inquisitors, the Fifth Brother, the Seventh Sister, and the Eight Brother, and repeatedly connects with physicals hits being his staff or his feet and fists:
After joining back up with Ahsoka and Kanan, Maul quickly defeats the remaining two Inquisitors and does so easily as per starwars.com:

Darth Maul, Ahsoka Tano, and Kanan kill all of the Inquisitors
Maul fights Ahsoka Tano off-screen for a time and the two seem to be evenly matched, despite Ahsoka getting a massive skill boost from the Clone Wars. Maul then loses to Kanan due to sheer and utter PIS:
Maul easily defends against Kanan's attacks after the latter was possessed by Nightsister magicks:
I'm throwing Maul's fight with Obi-Wan in Rebels in here. The reason for this is because of Filoni's words as well as the other story board members stating that the reason their fight was so short is because the two of them are so skilled and have grown as swordsmen and characters to the point where they could anticipate what moves the other would do. Maul saw Obi-Wan's stance and assumed he could get him with the same move that killed Qui-Gon, but this was actually Obi-Wan's plan and trap:
Andi Gutierrez: "The actual duel between the two Masters is very short, like a samurai film. How did you come to the conclusion that it had to be done this way?"
Carrie Beck: "We never entered into this story trying to think about how satisfying that battle should be, it really became about what was the genuine intention of this moment and knowing where these two men are at this point in their lives. I think it's important for us, even though on the timeline we aren't to A New Hope yet, to think about what we know of Obi-Wan in that movie and work backwards in some way, to make sure that the character's progression charts appropriately."
Henry Gilroy: "When you fight someone many times, and have faced off, you kinda know each other's moves, so if you think about it, the biuldup to this confrontation and the actual lightsabers hitting each other is actually longer cause they're basically playing it out in their heads, and the amazing thing is the move that Maul tries after the initial exchange, he actually attempts the move that killed Qui-Gon Jinn. He tries to basically bash him with thehilt."
Dave Filoni: "If you talk to a lot of people that sword fight, they'll tell you people that are very good don't have long fights. It's very quick. And so that scene, it's an homage to the Seventh Samurai. I think on one level people would be excited to see another prolonged lightsaber fight but I just never really saw the confrontation that way because to do that is to say the character's don't have growth. Yes, it's exciting as an audience member but it's not a really believable thing. The story telling has toevolve."

Star Wars Rebels: Obi Wan Vs Maul
Scimitar
(Darth Maul Issue #01) Darth Maul pilots his Scimitar expertly and takes out about 8(?) ships. From the scans and the other pilots' reactions, we are aware that Maul's Scimitar has a cloaking device, as he was able to literally fly right up behind the fighters and not have any of them notice, and we know that he can deploy mines from his ship:
Scheming/Intelligence
(Darth Maul Issue #05) Darth Maul can apparently understand the language his droids speak, which is basically known as "Droid":
Darth Maul is described as a "scheming mastermind":
A deadly, agile Sith Lord trained by the evil Darth Sidious, Darth Maul was a formidable warrior and scheming mastermind.
Maul concocted a plan to gather crime lords under his command so that he would have control of the entire criminal underworld. He agreed to help Pre Vizsla and his Death Watch gain control of Mandalore as a staging post and base of power:
Vizsla's dream was to conquer Mandalore and reinstate his beloved warrior heritage. Though Maul agreed to help, he had a larger plan in mind. To secure a base of power, Maul sought to gather powerful crime lords together to create a Shadow Collective.

Now in league with the Mandalorian group Death Watch, Maul ventured out to recruit Black Sun into his Collective, and did so by killing all the leaders who denied him:

Darth Maul, Savage & Death Watch vs Bounty Hunters
Darth Maul and Savage Invade Jabba's Palace
This army was called the Shadow Collective, was comprised of Death Watch, the Pyke Syndicate, Black Sun, and some of the Hutt clans, and was even able to take over and rule Mandalore for a time:
The Shadow Collective was an alliance of underworld organizations assembled by Darth Maul using a mix of persuasion and brute force. Maul struck a deal with Death Watch leader Pre Vizsla and won the support of the Pyke Syndicate, then subjugated Black Sun and the Hutt Clan by force of arms. The Collective took over Mandalore, but its heyday was short-lived, and it fragmented after Maul’s defeat by Darth Sidious.
Source: https://www.starwars.com/databank/shadow-collective
In order to give Death Watch the power they needed on Mandalore, Maul staged an attack that had members of the Pykes and Black Sun attack Mandalore with Death Watch coming to the rescue to act as saviors:
At the Death Watch camp on Zanbar, Maul and his fellow conspirators examine a holographic map of Mandalore. Pre Vizsla has had scouts recon the planet and establish target locations to strike at as part of their takeover. The Death Watch leader warns Maul that should the conspiracy attempt to take the planet by force, the people will reject their rule.
[...]
Maul has accounted for that in his plans. He and his army of criminals will sow chaos across the Mandalorian capital of Sundari, weakening the Duchess' rule. Then Death Watch can sweep in and clean up the mess that Satine could not, proving their effectiveness.

At Maul's command, Death Watch begins cleaning up the city of criminal interlopers. Armored Mandalorian warriors reclaim the shipping docks from the Pyke and Death Watch foot soldiers. Bo-Katan and her Nite Owls capture the criminals at the Peace Park. The beleaguered citizens declare them saviors. Vizsla himself dispatches Savage in a lightsaber duel----a carefully staged battle that sees Vizsla victorious and heroic.

Death Watch takes over Mandalore
After Pre Vizsla betrays Maul, Maul challenges him to a duel and gains control of Death Watch after killing him, becoming its leader and through Almec, the leader of Mandalore:
In the royal chambers, Vizsla declares victory to Maul: they now have rule of Mandalore, and a captive Satine with which to lure Obi-Wan Kenobi into a trap. Maul calls Vizsla's proclamation premature----the shadow conspiracy does indeed have a base, but they will now expand to other neutral worlds.
[...]
But Vizsla has no interest in expansion----he wanted only Mandalore under his command. He is done with Maul, and his Mandalorians pull their blasters on the Sith Lord, taking him prisoner.

In the royal prison, Maul and Savage share a cell. Maul does not seem fazed at this reversal----indeed, he has anticipated it. The Sith intend to replace Vizsla with a more malleable leader, and Vizsla has unwittingly placed them within reach of several candidates.

The Shadow Collective conquered Mandalore, with Vizsla replacing Satine as the planet's ruler. But his triumph was short-lived. Maul dueled him for leadership of Death Watch, killing him and taking over the group.
In the royal chamber, the liberated Maul calls out Vizsla to a duel before his soldiers. Per Mandalorian tradition, Vizsla has no choice but to accept. Vizsla ignites his ancient darksaber, and does battle with the Sith Lord. Though Vizsla has trained well with his blade, he is ultimately no match for Maul, who defeats and decapitates the Death Watch leader.

In short order, Almec appears on the royal balcony before the people of Mandalore. He spins a shocker of a lie: that Duchess Satine has murdered Pre Vizsla. Satine is now under arrest, and Almec has been reinstated as prime minister.
