Who's the better character? Also who has more value and brings more to the MCU?

Black Widow is not a very deep character but at least she has some history with Hawkeye. So I'd go with her, that bond between them is meaningful, plus I like Hawkeye a lot.

@supermanfan1938: How is she not a deep character? Sure she was shallow in her first movie, Iron Man 2, but she has a distinct arc in the MCU. Tortured past, wants clear the red from her ledger, torn loyalties in Civil War, sacrificed her life for the Soul Stone, can’t have a family because of the red room, etc

That's the problem of the character not leaving a good first impression.

She originated as a thinly-written supporting character in a not-so-fan-favourite Iron Man 2 (2010), whose main purpose was just fan service. She started having some characterization/development from The Avengers (2012) onwards and dropped the fan service aspect starting Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) but by then the bad impression already set in.

There's even an online written article saying that Black Widow's death in Avengers: Endgame is appropriate in a symbolic sense since her death marks the end of weak female characters.

Truth be told, she gets more hate than Hawkeye. That Hawkeye character should've been in this poll instead of Black Widow, if we want to talk about who is the better character/more value.

@lobotomisi: Well u can at least appreciate the growth she has undergone. She also isn’t a weak female character. There isn’t a correlation between physical power and the strength of a character. Captain Marvel is very cliched, but Black Widow’s story is at least one that isn’t predictable. She doesn’t spout one liners or make girl power lines seem forced, she is just a tough, former KGB assassin who grew into the new role she wanted for herself in the world. I do agree that Hawkeye is useless. Okoye is incredibly generic as well, as we don’t know what she wants other than wakanda’s safety.

When I said weak female/male character, I refer to the writing/characterization not the on-screen physical power/fighting abilities.

Its generally agreed that she was thinly written on her debut but was better fleshed out in later movies. It was unfortunate the bad impression was already set in. Just see for yourself all the comedy videos (e.g.: SNL) regarding Marvel movies' Black Widow - Most are caricatures of her being fan-servicey.

She could have come close to Chris Hemsworth's Thor in terms of how iconic the character is, all without her own movie if she was written well from the start.

The cloak is more interesting and that’s not sarcasm.
