In honor of the guy on YouTube I was talking to who said it'd hit a billion dollars?
My prediction is 650 to 725
What do you guys think?

I'll go 600-800. I think it will definitely go above Ant Man unless it gets really bad reviews, which seems unlikely. I do think it could blow up like Wonder Woman but probably won't. If I had to get more specific probably between Doctor Strange numbers($677) and Captain America the Winter Soldier($714).
750-800 mill easy.
Yeahhhhh, I don't see it making as much as some people are claiming. What ridiculous numbers.
I also don't get some numbers here... With the current data i see it on the $550M - $650M range...
Yea there's no way it's making 900 to a billion that's just wanking Black Panther isn't even that popular Iron man and Cap didn't get fans over night it took years to grow the Fan Base
Around $700 million. More than Doctor Strange but less than Wonder Woman.

I'm sure your data will be just as accurate as it was on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 and Spiderman Homecoming. ;)
My guess is around $250M domestic and $650M over all. I hope it does worse since I keep hearing talk that they aren't going to continue making Thor and Captain America movies. I'd rather see Mangog or Serpent Squad as potential big screen villains over Klaw or some other more obscure villain.
@marvelanddcfan24: True, no superhero has made $1b in their 1st movie so I don't see it happening now. Spider-Man: Homecoming had Spider-Man and Iron Man in it, great reviews and still didn't make $1b (at $879m now)
I can see this making GOTG or Suicide Squad #'s so maybe around $750m, if it's as well recieved as I think it will be.

Can you please point where i was wrong regarding any of those movies?

With the current data GotG vol. 2 is the movie with more appeal/hype and consequently potential at the box office.
There was also a thread before Homecoming came out where you claimed that your data would have Homecoming making a lower world wide total that GotG2, but I couldn't find that one with a quick Google search and have no desire to waste my time looking for it.
500-600 million
It may be the MCU, but Black Panther is still a nigga...in a suit :/
With an majority black cast
And there's no Will Smith

Yo?
Close but not as much as Wonder Woman IMO is my high end estimate. Low end is slightly above Ant-Man.

500-600m? What the hell are you people smoking? 650 is the minimum, BP is a MCU movie and that alone is enough to make it gain a lot, add the fact that it has no competition for a whole month and that it seems pretty good for the moment. There's no way it'll make less than 650m.
Dr Strange, an unknown hero (for general audiences) made 677m, black Phanter has already been introduced and looks cool. Quit drugs, boys.

Eh? I don't think it's a stretch at all. 500-600 million is a pretty safe bet. The highest grossing "black" movies i.e movies with a majority black cast have all featured Will Smith, Martin Lawrence or Eddie Murphy. None of them crossed 600 million IIRC.
People are also stupid. They see a name like Black Panther, featuring an all black cast, set in Africa, where the two white people are villains (IDK about Bilbo), they're gonna feel some type of way, regardless of it being in the MCU. Look how many long time NFL fans, dummies that they are, cut all ties simply over some kneeling. These people are stupid. I'm not saying they're close to the majority, but they're out there.
The movie doesn't really have any household names outside film/black communities. You try to use Dr Strange as a counter example but fail to realize that Benedict Cumberbatch puts a lot of butts in seats by himself. Black Panther has Michael B. Jordan at best, and while he's a great actor, he's not on Benedicts level. The movie also comes out in February. You may think it's an advantage since it doesn't have competition, and that's fair, but people don't really go to the movies in February anyway.
Like it or not, even with the MCU label, Black Panther is going to be labeled as the "black MCU movie", and I think, through no direct intention....like really no one is going to say "too many black people, it's going to affect it's Box Office a bit, domestic and worldwide.
I am going to bump the ceiling up to 650 million though. Optimism is key.
800-850 is my guess. Mcu has gathered quite a following thru the years and they keep knocking it out the park with the critics so that helps a lot. If Coogler can keep it rolling, having a prominent black cast could just be the right ticket for the general audience in keeping the genre from feeling stale.
No less than 650 million, considering how much Doctor Strange made, and the fact BP is barely going against any competition.
@buttersdaman000: I think that February being a dump month is countered by the lack of competition for a whole month. I don't think the movie being "black" will have such a big impact, China is the only market in which this may be a big deal, but I have no info to say for sure.
650m seems good for me unless the movie is crap and WOM and critics destroy it. I'm optimistic about BP, I'm sure it'll make more money than we think ;)

It's always had a noticeable impact before. Thems just the breaks. I don't think the goodwill of the MCU is enough to completely erase Black Panther as a "black movie". Also, IIRC, the movie is also going to touch on racial politics. I don't trust the MCU to really do that, but just the fact that it addresses stuff like that may hinder it's box office as well.
I also still think people are undercutting the stigma of February movies just because it's the MCU. Nobody goes to the movies in February. Deadpool was an outlier. It was something new, something people have never seen in super hero movies before. Black Panther is just another MCU movie...the "black" MCU movie.
650 million is my ceiling. Anybody who argues that it's a minimum is living in a fantasy land where people miraculously overcome their prejudices, preferences, and racism just to watch a MCU movie.
I hope i'm wrong though lol
PC sells in America, and I see the states carrying the success of BP like they did WW. I expect the first Black superhero to be huge in the states.
@buttersdaman000: BP will touch racial politics? Uh, didn't know that...
Well, I also hope you are wrong :P
