Black Panther (2018) reportedly been pushed to Oscar Nominations

Disney has reportedly been attempting the nomination of the CBM blockbuster in next year's Academy Awards, the most popular category of choice being "Best Picture".

I am ok with them pushing it for the more technical categories, most likely it is going to get nominations there anyway but in the big ones? It wasn't even that good.

Love the movie, don't think it will win best picture or any acting categories, but this is one of those cases where it really is an honor just to be nominated.

I definitely see it taking home some awards for production design and costumes/makeup.

Best Picture should be a no, even for a nomination.

Just a friendly reminder that The Dark Knight and Logan never got nominated.

It's a great movie, but not that good. Unpopular opinion, but a large portion of the movies success is launching a minority superhero surrounded by minorities in the current SJW climate. DON'T get me wrong here though - it was a really really good movie and definitely one of my favourite marvel movies. However, I think the public is making it seem much better than what it is.

I personally love that film mostly because it's a quality story, with quality performances that is carried by a cast full of black people and women, representing them properly. Objectively, outside of the minority factor, I don't think it was Academy-award level, at least not on most categories, but I don't mind seeing it nominated that's for sure.

That said, the only CBM I still think deserved and should get a nomination in the upper categories to date is Captain America: The Winter Soldier, I much prefer it over the Dark Knight Trilogy too.

The popular movie category was pretty much made so this movie could win one....

If this wins a best picture or honestly anything else it's because the Oscar's are trying to make people forget about the whole no black people were nominated a couple of years ago

This movie wasnt that great honestly not much better than the averge good CBM wasnt TDK, Logan, or TWS level

Guys, this isn't actually a real attempt. Disney is doing this only for publicity.

The Academy Awards have made it very clear that they have a strong bias against superhero movies, the fact that both The Dark Knight and Logan were almost completely overlooked proved that.

Disney knows that this movie won't get any nominations in major categories, much less any victories. They're just doing it for publicity, just like Warner Bros did last year with Wonder Woman.

I think if CBM (or any blockbuster in general) from this year should get nominated it's Deadpool 2. The writing, score, and acting were all very impressive for a superhero movie.

The best popular feature category was cancelled after almost unanimous backlash from the industry.

I think it is pretty insulting for any black people to be nominated not because of its merits (which the movie severely lacks) but only due because of the skin colors of the actors and the director and the current racial politics.

What's so special about his acting as Killmonger?

Many actors can do a "well done" performance, in context of their roles

But that doesn't mean they should deserve an award for doing it.

The role they are playing is pretty important considerations when judging whether there is truly a worthy critical merit for their effort.

The Killmonger character is not on same level of what most winners had been rated.

@mimisalome: Well it's not just well done but a very believable performance. Superhero characters never really win that category except for Heath Ledger for Joker. Not every character has to be Heath Ledger Joker to win it.

Also i see countless numbers of actors and extras performing a "believable" and "well done" acting of a dead person, of a crook, of sale clerk, of a random mook... should we all give them an award for their "well done" and "believable" performance?

Again there is more things in consideration here than just acting in a "well done" and "believable" way.

Mooks and no name characters don't matter in comparison to MAIN protagonists or antagonists and have way less lines to judge.

In my opinion Micheal B Jordan did a good job portraying the Killmonger character enough to be deserving an Oscar. If you don't believe so then that is your opinion.

I say that if "BLACK PANTHER", which is a pretty mediocre movie compose of mediocre characters, wins the Oscar... then yeah it is mostly likely a result of black tokenism.

Also my point is... a "well done" and "believable" acting is not enough, the role is also import.

While Jordan's acting maybe top notched, the Killmonger character is pretty mediocre and unremarkable. That is not an Oscar material comparable to Ledger's Joker.

@mimisalome: I edited my post. Black Panther wasn't mediocre and better than other origin MCU origin movies like Iron Man 1, Captain America the First Avenger, Thor 1.

That's just your opinion. The acting was done well and Killmonger is one of the best villains of the MCU.
