Time for Black Female Superheroes Volume 3! Check out Volume 1 HERE and Volume 2 HERE.With news that Beyonce might be playing Wonder Woman in an upcoming DC/Warner Bros movie... talking about Black Female Superheroes seems even more timely.Any of the 20 characters I've already profiled or the 10 that I'll profile in this post COULD be turned into movies sooner than later. Hollywood is constantly turning to comic books and graphic novels for inspiration - because what is a comic if not a highly detailed story board? Here goes:

Shard

Shard exists as a mutant 50 years into an alternate future, where the X-Men have disbanded and been destroyed due to a betrayal by one of their own. In this alternate future, all mutants have "M" tattoos over their left eyes. She first appeared in The Uncanny X-Men in 1996. Shard has the power to shoot energy beams out of her palms.

Silhouette

Silhouette first appeared in NEW WARRIORS in 1990. She has the power to become a shadow and teleport. Silhouette is also very proficient in martial arts and has superhuman strength, speed, agility and heightened sense.

Storm
Storm is by far the most well known Black female superhero. She's one of the main members of The X-Men and is featured prominently in all 3 X-Men movies (played by Halle Berry - even though she did a ridiculous accent which miraculously disappeared in the 3rd movie without warning). She has the power to control the weather and can use it to get out of tough situations - lightening striking opponents, clearing fog, tornadoes hitting direct targets. Storm can pretty much do it all.

ThrenodyThrenody is a mutant that first appeared in X-Men comics in 1993. She was rescued from a life of homelessness and taught to hone her power of draining energy from people and animals that were on the brink of death. She can also sense when someone is severely sick or dying. This power also allows her to save herself from death, though this power does have its drawbacks: She often and unwittingly creates zombies that are attracted to her presence... She also had to have metal plates put permanently onto her face to control her powers.

WildStreak
Wildstreak may be my favorite Black female superhero... and I've uncovered about 50 of them. She appears in the Fantastic Four comics in 1993. Her real name is Tamika Bowden and she wasn't born with any superpowers. She was a gymnast who suffered a severe injury, lost the use of her legs, and then had an exoskeleton built for her that made her strong, faster and even more agile that she had ever been. She began being a vigilante to seek revenge against the mob boss responsible for her accident - because her father, a genius and MIT graduate, refused to work for his organization. WildStreak never conformed to any superhero ethics and was hunted by Iron Man, Super Man, and the Fantastic Four.

Amanda Waller
Amanda Waller is the first Black Female character from the DC Universe that I'm profiling. All of the proceeding characters have been from Marvel Comics. Amanda Waller first appeared in Legends in 1986. Amanda Waller (also known as THE WALL) is from Chicago's Cabrini Green housing projects, eventually becoming a scientists and elected official. She worked closely with the government and with superheroes. She was one of the few people who knew the true identity of Batman.

BumbleBee
Bumbleebee (aka Karen Beecher-Duncan) first appeared in TEEN TITANS in 1977. She has the power to shrink to inscect size, fly, shoot sonic blasts and deliver electric stings.

The Crimson Avenger
There have been three characters called 'THE CRIMSON AVENGER' in the DC universe and the third was the woman above, Jill Carlyle. All of the Crimson Avengers have their guns in common - guns that are used to track those who kill inoccents. The current Crimson Avenger has an ever-bleeding bullet hole in the center of her chest. The guns don't need ammunition, therefore never run out of ammunition and have no triggers - they are fired pyschically by The Crimson Avenger. Until her time as the avenger is up, she will be immortal, at which time she will immediately die from her wound.

Doctor Mid-Nite

The role of Doctor Mid-Nite has also been assumed by three different people in the Marvel Universe - all of whom are medical doctors and have near blindness in daylight but can see very well in the dark. Doctor Mid-Nite can also throw 'dark bombs' to blind her opponents. The only female Doctor Mid-Nite's real name is Beth Chapel.

Jet

Birthname: Celia Windward... Jet is Jamaican and has the ability to fly, create blasts of heat and force, and generate electromagnetic pulse, move and manipulate metal with magnetic fields, fire blasts of electricity, and see in other frequencies of the spectrum besides visible light such as ultraviolet and infared. She first appeared in DC Millenium #2 in 1988.

Look out for Black Female Superheroes Vol. 4 in about a week or so. There are many more to come.
More Black Female Superheroines on the way!!!

I'm not really a fan of Jet or the Global Guardians at all for that matter.

I really like the spotlighting female superpowered minorities though. Neat idea.

Every black female superhero isn't cool just because they are black and female.

not to take anything away, and i think she's awesome, but neither Shard nor her brother Bishop are black. notice her hair? they are the result of the melting pot effect, were separate races in the future are becoming obsolete. basically they are moloto's, giving many years more of cross breeding and taken to a point removed from being any nationality.

big differance there. moloto is neither and both. and Shard isnt even that, shes further progressed. most molotos i know, best friend included do not claim other colored or non. being technicall, the
range of descents that are actually "white" are rare. Irish persons are technically colored given the basis f definition given most Irish americans are immigrants who arrived after the Civil War and recieved the same treatment of rights as African americans. likewise American-Indians.
but in Shards case she isnt even that really. Just pointing out the facts, as where presented
in the actual comics and bios themselves, specifically stated she and her brother "are not black".

notably, trying to inform nothing more. most Africans hail from differant tribes and are likewise not the same people because of their skin color. aslo reminds me of the old Storm and Black Panther are married just because theyre both black rant. BP is Wakkandan, Storm is Egyptian. Go to Egypt and tell them they are Africans in your book. Actually dont, bad idea. Essentially of color is any single group that is not caucasian. Asians are in fact in that definition for example. all i saw was the thread title stating " Black Female"

 @mickaelsurtour:
not exactly or even close. you just accused me of saying the exact reverse of everything i just said.
- i said there is no lumped together blacks, Africans and ect hail from differant origins
- you said i think theyre all the same
- Egyptians do not consider themselves African, Africans do not consider Egyptians African either.
you do know how long Egyptians have been around correct? they do not share the same genetic lineage. when i said say that in Egypt, i meant that that would be an insult there and not taken lightly.
this is like saying Germans are of British decent because they are in the continent of Europe.
- forget hypocrisy. persons in America get stepped on and used regardless of their color, and all fight each other.
- Shard has blonde hair...naturally. her skin color is an amalgamation of Caucasian, Asian, and African, among others. Great about your politcal point of view. Shard and Bishop however are fictional characters. Marvel states them as non-race, the only exception ebing mutancey, which i just explained, and can be read in their comics. Bishops depicitation varies by artist.
- you talked of hypocrisy, then complained about your issue with lumping blacks, then lumped them yourself, then made mention of "whites". sorry, you dont have my vote.
 - now people dont feel the urge to define, it has a definiton, otherwise it means nothing and so does the point of this thread. know your roots. the defining of the term black was in fact brought forth by African Americans who were hypocrisized and notoriously plugged by Malcom X.

just trying to clarify comic issues and pointing to the fatcs in the Marvel Universe, hence way Black Panther was brought up. wasnt going to respond but i loathe being accused in a long paragraph
of saying the opposite of what i clearly and easily said and was just quoted for. how could would i wrote have not been clear?

anyways. Shard is great. Also not black, or unblack or black, im unsure which term is suitable to you since you stood for and against both just now.

suggest reading  Martin Luther King, Jr and Malcom X. Im quoting them here.
i could really put little stock in the un named NFL players views.

@CATMANEXE: i understand that their bio's are given as a none race as you say cause they are from the future and all races have mixed so much to turn to what they are, but if I were to categorize them like BeccaBaby87, I would proly do the same thing in putting Shard under the black, or person of color, just fer the fact that yes she is mixed and there is obviously black in there, and just because they way she is drawn she looks like a mixed black person, same with bishop in all his drawings he looks like a black guy with Indian in him lol, Shard is here cause some where in there, there is black a tiny bit, but mostly on appearance.

not from their bios, from the actual comics. ive read every Shard and Bishop comic to date.

but okay, ill vote here in as black just for today. Shards great eitherway so i guess i can sit with her getting whatever recognition.

I have not been able to read DC for quite some time. My last read was when they formed the new JLA with Benes doing the art. Well, that and catching the TPB of Green Lantern at B&N.

She's heavily debatable. Her father was shown to be white the first time he appeared, but he's been black every time since his debut. We don't know what her mother is. So it's possible that her mom could be Middle Eastern, and her dad could be both black and white.

copying this over from another place i posted, voting her as an Unsung Hero

Gorilla Girl

No Caption Provided

she fought registration bravely in Civil War,
and in Secret Invasion, and didnt stand for the corruption of the Initiative.
she risked her life to save innocents against Thor's clone. very recently
she sacrificed herself to save three realities from the Zombies Vs Apes
war. next to no one knows who she is, and her deed was erased from time
and memory.
her whole life was tragic, she got treated like dirt, but she fought on
for the good like Cap would, and never got anything but tough breaks and no thanks
in return thats the spirit of a real hero!
this girl deserves a damned medal!

Now that the Nolan bat trilogy is over, Cristian Bale should play a rebooted Storm in the Avengers Movie-Verse

Just on an aside, Vixen should be made into a TV show. They could tone down her powers a bit for a TV budget, & also the more "realistic" take that Smallville did.
