Okay I was thinking whats happening to the Black characters in comics, We have no front runners, Look at cage and Falcon they have always been a side kick of sorts, there is no major Black character apart from Black Panther who has been made to team up with everyone once and awhile , I dont understand why Marvel or DC dont make a front runner , Marvel is the worst out the two , Even the X-men have dropped Bishop and gone all white, Is this an issue or am I seeing something thats not there?
Black Characters in Comics
Cryo-Wolf says:
"Ultimate X-Men still has Bishop. As Leader of the X-Men."
So one, Out of how many you know what I mean right, Its strange I rember an old character called Icon, He was as powerful as superman, Does anyone know what happend to him
JT says:
"yeah but there are still barely any black characters in comics"
WHAT? There are alot of black characters in comics. The probably is there never used or revamped. Cloak, Brother Voodoo, Patroit, Jon Stewart, even Black Panther is under used. Steel, Black Lightning, Photon, Storm, Bishop, the Skrull in Runaways is black, Spawn I would say is the most used. But where's the black characters on the same level as Cap, or even Iron Man? Or Superman? I mean come on.
Gambler says:

true
Barguest says:
"Spawn :O OMG!"
Yeah but Im talking Marvel and Dc who have more lines then anyother comic publisher, And Image only have Spawn that is three comics at the mo the have at least 20 more , It's still a very small majority for such a company
JT says:
"Still not enough"
True. I'm just showing there out there. They may be used for an arc but then they disappear again.

Barguest says:
"And what about asian males in comics? super rare, I can think of some girls off the top of my head, but not guys."
Thats a great point. We should say minority's in general are a non factor in comics.
Cryo-Wolf says:
"And what about Storm? She's big..."
Thats what im getting at, Storm yeah but she is not strong enough to hold her own comic, What im talking about is someone on superman level or Caps, There are plenty of Black characters on the sub bench but none up to bat, Really think about it.
Gambler says:
"Barguest says:"And what about asian males in comics? super rare, I can think of some girls off the top of my head, but not guys."Thats a great point. We should say minority's in general are a non factor in comics."
Minority is a funny word to use, I bet theres more black male comic readers than there are female comic readers put together... yet theres plenty of girl characters :P Though I guess they're less for role models and more for eye candy.
Methos says:
"well we did have a black Superman and Supergirl at one point...there's also John Henry Irons...and John Stewart...that's for DC, i can't really comment on Marvel aside from Storm?M"
No No NO Methos. Not like that. I mean in terms of exposure, ink, own comic. Not an actual black Superman, a black character that they make a flag ship character.
Shadow Arrow says:
"Barguest says:"Gambler says:So all in all we can say that there is alot wrong with comics!""Barguest says:Minority is a funny word to use, I bet theres more black male comic readers than there are female comic readers put together... yet theres plenty of girl characters :P Though I guess they're less for role models and more for eye candy.""And what about asian males in comics? super rare, I can think of some girls off the top of my head, but not guys."Thats a great point. So all in all we can say that there is alot wrong with comics!

Thanks but where are they NOW, Steel died out after 51 , Thats my point they dont keep them , you see what im getting at methos
fesak says:
"Barguest says:"And what about asian males in comics? super rare, I can think of some girls off the top of my head, but not guys."Sunfire, Shang Chi, Silver Samurai, Radioactive Man, Collective Man and Bengal are asian males and fairly well known."
By us maybe, not the general public.

"
yeah i do see...
it is something that needs to be rectified
M
Gambler says:
"fesak says:I only know of Silver Samurai :P but yeah, they aren't super recognisable like Superman, or Spiderman, the archetypal heroes that everyones heard of."Barguest says:By us maybe, not the general public. i think it is too but i'm not sure what the reason is. is it because the companies arent interested in minority heroes or is it because they cater to their readers?

Well we are there readers and We seem to think its wrong, So I guess it the first one.

I kinda see what she's saying though. Its the same reason Black Canary wears a fishnet thong up her !@# No women in her right mind would go out and fight crime dressed like that, but since the core audience for comics are males it works.
I'd guess that it has more to do with who is making the comics and who is buying the comics than anything. There aren't a lot of black creators and I'd guess that white males probably comprise a huge chunk of comic book buyers.

The audience will stay male if they do that though... I like Canary, :P but when I see a gal in a comic with boobs like balloons and a waist you can fit your hand round I feel pushed out.
This is Icon, In his prime he thought Superman to a stand still in 1994 , but he died out shortly after, He was an awesome character.

I would love for him to come back, But thats of the subject

this is a small group. do you think that the thought has even crossed the mind of most of the people on this site? most of the comic readers? how cool is black panther, but how popular is his comic book?

powergirl stays. Supergirl goes.. :P
Spectrum says:
"Killer Croc was Black before he turned green, i know ironic he was black then they changed his colour"
So that proves what exactly
Proves that they often mask the black image. Storm has Blue eyes and white hair"mutant" Spawn is burned beyond recognition, Tombstone and Croc are unreconizable as black. Milestone comics, first major black owned company, had all types of characters: Pakistani woman korean men, puerto ricans, whites blacks you name it they got it. and no one was underpowered or underrepped.

Now THATS an intelligent point!
If any of you are in college I suggest taking ethnic studies courses, as many as you can. Because from what I have read in my months on the vine a large portion, majority 90+% are misinformed about racism and race relations currently and historically. Depressing yes but I lean on Christ to get me through.
