I just watched Aquaman yesterday. Admittedly, Aquaman's CGI is harder to produce, but that's their problem. While Aquaman's looks more aesthetic and beautiful, I think IW's looks more real, which is probably the most important factor.
Aquaman looks unrealistic, while infinity war looks pretty close to real-world. I’d personally go with Aquaman due to the fact that it was something different.
Aquaman. For the sheer visual establishment and creative design of a conceptual place like Atlantis.
Although, Infinity War is the objectively better film, the settings in the movie doesn't impress me in comparison to establishing a kingdom found in the depths of the ocean that feels live in and exotic.
You guys clearly haven't seen Birdemic 1 & 2. One of the best, if not the best visual effects I've ever seen. I highly recommend watching 'em, especially when you're drunk or high.
in what way was Aquaman superior? Titan looked like a real place. Nothing in Aquaman looked real.
I haven't seen Aquaman yet and so haven't cast a vote, but I will say that "looking real" isn't the be-all-end-all of visual effects. Dr. Strange was a mediocre movie but is widely praised for its fantastic effects specifically because of the otherworldly nature of the realities he visited and the world bending visuals of his magic.
Fantastical and visually beautiful effects are just as valid as grounded and realistic effects. One doesn't automatically beat the other anymore than a grounded, realistic drama about real life problems automatically beats a heroic epic that focuses on larger than life figures.
@ganon15: They were the only bad parts of it. Everything else like Thanos and Red Skull was excellent. Aquaman however had fake looking cgi all the way through. Not do mention the fact that the Spider-Man and Ironman costumes were 100% CGI.
I think the quality of the Infinity War CGI (especially Thanos) is a grade above that in Aquaman. There were definitely weird looking moments, especially with the white-armored Atlanteans and in the Italy scene. However, Aquaman was, as others have said, a prettier movie to me (which has to do more with cinematography).
Edit: IW had its bad moments too, I was just reminded of. Mark Ruffalo floating head, Iron Man at times. But those are pretty minor IMO.
@ganon15: Proxima looked really good and the Banner part is perhaps the only weak CGI in the movie aside from Iron Man armor in some scenes.
Infinity War CGI is much harder to make since trying to make things look real is obviously tougher to make than giving something a more aesthetic look.
Infinity War. You could argue that Aquaman had better cinematography and more picturesque shots but IW had better visual effects IMO. Thanos alone has to have been extraordinarily difficult to pull off.
