which one ?
I liked GotG the first time I saw it
but saw it 3 or 4 times in theatres with different groups
and that kind of ruined it, the abundance of comedy doesn't stand up on multiple viewings
especially the whole "dance of bro" bit
whereas Aquamans comedy (for the most part) didn't work as well first time around
but they were more action based and didn't rely on the comedy
Aquaman didn't ruin the climax of the film with a stupid joke, so I think that automatically gives it the win for me
Guardians is worst thing to hit the big screen. And I'm just going to say it... JUSTICE LEAGUE WAS BETTER
I genuinely like the Justice League movie and I still have to heavily disagree. JL was hit by many behind-the-scenes production issues and studio meddling that really bogged it down. GOTG is good and consistent throughout. The only two points I feel are really debatable between the two movies are Ronan and Steppenwolf and Ronan actually has points in his favor simply by having make-up over CGI, thus he looks better, and is in a comedy movie, so it's less of an issue that he's an underwhelming villain.
As a Justice League fan, the high moments in the JL movie stick with me more, but GOTG is still the better movie overall.
Aquaman is a HUGE improvement in DC. IT is the first movie in the DCEU that imho - was actually GOOD since Man of Steel (which I still had issues with). There was a mediocre one, then a couple terrible, terrible movies.
But make no mistake here - Guardians is still better. It was a not just a good movie, it was a GREAT movie. It was innovative, inventive - it brought a new set of ideas to the comic book movie goer's mind. What did Aquaman do? Oh yes, a generic movie. A well executed movie no doubt, one that had strong performances in it, but still not really innovative.
Aquaman? 7.8/10. Guardians of the Galaxy vol 1? Solid 9.2/10.
Completely different class.
Guardians of The Galaxy was groundbreaking at the time of it's release, and although it isn't as good as it was in 2014, it is still an exceptionally well made superhero movie. The strength of the movie, besides it's soundtrack and acting, is it's writing. It is a very well-written movie. Aquaman relies a lot on it's visual effects, which made for a good movie, but one that left a lot to be desired from the writing front. It was never as good as GoTG, and it won't hold up as well.
