Better film: The Departed or The Dark Knight?
The Departed. It's one of the top 20 movies of all time imo, while TDK is one of the top 50, so it's close.
Now this is tough. Both are among my favorites of the entire 2000's decade.
I'd say The Dark Knight by a hair.
The Dark Knight
I think I voted for The Departed over The Dark Knight in a previous match up, but I appreciate The Dark Knight more as time has passed.
Not EVEN remotely close. The Departed is one of the overrated duped adaptations that people seemed to recognize it as some sort of masterpiece.

What's this?! Vishop criticizing a Scorsese film?!
Somebody slap me, I gotta wake up.

Eh, This is the only Scorsese film that is really mediocre. I have mentioned it several times before. But Scorsese deserved to win AA but not for this film.

Definitely not. People often forget how many mid or bad films Scorsese has made. Not saying he's overrated, but he made quite a few pretty weak films before he built his signiture style.
But I do think The Departed is a great movie.
I love both of these movies, but I do think The Dark Knight takes the edge here. The themes of duality, order and chaos, and its philosophical questions of morality make it a far more interesting film than The Departed which is basically a really good crime drama/gangster flick.
That being said, I do prefer the writing of The Departed more, specifically the dialogue and the ending. I absolutely adore the ending of The Departed, and the dialogue feels a lot like the dialogue in many of Scorsese's best movies, and therefore is better than the dialogue in TDK (for the most part apart from the memorable quotes).
But yeah, overall TDK wins by a fairly big margin
There are very few movies in the 21st century that breach my top 20. TDK is one of them. The Departed isn't.
