The Dark Knight 68%
Blade Runner 2049 32%

Tell me this is a good match-up.

The Dark Knight

It's a good match up to show that The Dark Knight is a much better film than Blade Runner 2049, which is a movie that will be forgotten.

The original Blade Runner wasn't a great movie, but it made its mark unlike Blade Runner 2049.

I didn't find Blade Runner 2049's protagonist compelling enough to care about his journey, so it was like waiting hours for a kid to finally learn how to tie his shoes.

The Dark Knight's messages about self-sacrifice, perseverance, and escalation were more interesting.

The Dark Knight will still be quoted for years to come.

I also preferred it's music and it's visuals.

TDK, but only because of Ledger's knockout performance. In every other aspect, these two are largely even.

@wolverinebatmanftw: Definitely not in cinematography though. Blade Runner 2049 had Roger Deakins, there's no beating his cinematography mate.

@ghostodoofus2:

BA2049 is definitely much more beautiful, but there is some very intelligent camera work in TDK. This video essay shows a good example:

@wolverinebatmanftw: TDK has generic choreography though and what you are trying to say is video/film editing. That is a different category. Just saying.

@vishop_: Will answer once I've watched BR 2049, I've not actually watched it yet but I read so much about that I'm already quite biased for it lol.

Bruh TDK overhype strikes again lol, Blade Runner was far better as a movie in general and that's coming from a guy who watched the movie basically day one of it coming out

@vishop_: I know I know, I'm so far behind good movies. I've been watching box-office juggernauts all these years and only now I'm starting to get sick of them and recognise the many great, artful films I've missed.

@infantfinite128:

Everything about K is actually compelling for me. I am not saying that it was great acting but the character has a certain interesting background that had a great transition throughout the film.

K was a new replicant who was discriminated against by humans and he uses A.I via Joey to move his feelings away from the outer world. When he learned about himself that he was actually born replicant, he couldn't withhold his feelings and then thereafter there was another twist where he learned that he wasn't born replicant but he has to decide whether he should kill Deckard or not. The last scene was pretty emotional in my opinion because he gave up his life to do what he wanted.

@vishop_: Even if I didn't find K memorable, I really liked that ending. I preferred K's arc to Deckard's.

I also preferred Blade Runner 2049's message to the original Blade Runner even though Blade Runner was a tighter film with more impressive visuals and a more compelling character in Roy Batty.

I was hesitant to write my thoughts on the movie because I could understand how K's arc could be meaningful to someone, and I know there's been characters that were meaningful to me that people might write off as being emo or just teenage angst (Fight Club used to be my all time favorite movie and I still think about it outside of discussing entertainment).

I appreciated Blade Runner 2049's messages about finding hope in what may appear to be a nihilistic world and learning that there's more to life beyond materialism, but I had a similar impression of Blade Runner 2049 that I had of the Matrix, in that, I appreciated the Matrix's message of detachment (especially in this perverse culture of moral relativity putting "my truths" over The Truth) , but The Matrix went on too long, and a 25 minute episode of the Twilight Zone probably told the same story in a denser, more impactful manner.

I really respect your opinions, so I appreciate you convincing me that I'm wrong about something.

Did you watch the video I posted? It analyzed how TDK used cinematography as a storytelling device.

Umm, in case either of you thought otherwise, let me tell you -- I didn't make that video. I just found it on youtube.

Blade runner 2049 was enjoyable, but only on first viewing. The dark knight has stayed enjoyable for over a decade now

The Dark Knight by a large margin. Not only it has better acting, but a better director and character arcs too.
