Better Film: Arrival or Avengers: Endgame?
The one with Jeremy Renner, hahaha.
Haven't watched Arrival yet but will do soon, Denis Villeneuve is insanely good.

It's really good. I think it can even rival Intersteller.
Your hatred of the MCU is very bizarre.
And yet some MCU fanboys on CV without being objective think that IW>BR2049. The amount of hypocrisy is nuts!
Endgame easily. Arrival was pathetic tbh, I don't see why it gets so much accolades.
Because it deserves those nominations and awards?
Im not much of a fan of discount Nicole Kidman, but Arrival is one my favorite scifi movies.
Endgame is good, but its really the final battle that elevates it. Take that away and Endgame is MAYBE Avengers Ultron level. That opening scene with Hawkguy might be the best opening scene in CBM history.
Arrival is better overall, but Endgame has better moments for me.

It's called having an opinion. Which part of that do you struggle with? We're all not gonna agree with each other. Jesus, you're acting like a damn child, having tantrums when things don't go your way.
@skywalker95: Yeah but the post asks which is a better film, therefore, being objective about this post shows that you respect both films then you can have your opinion that you have liked these films more, etc, etc.
Arrival was trash, hands down. End game honestly stomps

@vishop_: This proves what? The movie was again trash, completely overrated for no other reason than for some reason people liking it. It was boring and very disappointing almost fell asleep to it and I usually don't fall asleep to sci fi movies

This is such a dumb coincidence but Arrival is playing on TV tonight here so I'm watching it. Granted I'm not much of a fan of sci fi, but reviews are saying it's 'an alien movie that people who don't like alien movies will enjoy' so it should be worth it.
It has an emotional side to its sequences but like Inception, it has sci-fic concepts or in short, it has a lot of tropes that you can find in this movie.
Who actually cares which is better lol? They arent similar in the slightest and it basically reeks of I want this film to be voted more than a film I dont like.
@finalkingthanos: Logan and Endgame are very much different in LOT of ways and people still compare them because they have one similar trope in common i.e both have CBM characters.
@vishop_: I find almost all of these movie comparisons to be stupid personally but that's fair then.

Maybe they are stupid but for me, they gave me perspective. I am saying this as a comic fan myself. I find too many flaws in CBMs especially MCU and my expectations are always more than normal fans because I expect them better than comics from which it has been adapted.
Endgame for me. I didn’t care for Arrival. It is slow, but the pacing didn’t bother me. I just didn’t find it all that interesting. The twist, if can call it that, fell flat for me, as well.
@Penguin-Dust: Endgame has nonsensical and generic TT. There were a lot of plot holes. Thanos is just meh on Endgame. It has a lot of cringe moments. Like for instance all-women showing a stand like it was just anti-climatic and anti-feminist and "I am Iron Man" is just fan service and it felt off. I mean any humoristic take on such dark and tough moment is generic.
Edit: Heck it was entirely the opposite of what happened in Hickman's run even though it felt too rush because of editorial mandates.
@vishop_: Yes, I know a lot of CBM’s are “generic” for you. I get that, but you asked the forum which movie we preferred. I gave an answer.

The concept of the time loop made you felt "flat" or dull and yet it was more enticing/grounded than TT in Endgame.

I didn't asked which movie do you "prefer". I asked which movie was "better".
@anthp2000: Same here actually. Don't know if I'm going to watch it again though since I'm watching something else right now but might check some of it later.
They aren't too far apart. I don't consider either to be particularly great, and Arrival is probably Villeneuve's worst or second worst film. Neither the twist nor the overall build-up captured my interest compared to what he accomplished with Blade Runner or Sicario. Naturally, the Academy loved it, though.
Endgame is mostly a mess, but it entertained me more.

These are fighting words I must have you know :p
@vishop_: What are you talking about? I personally enjoyed a lot of MCU movies more than BR2049, which was good visually but the rest... not much.
Endgame is the better movie due to the final battle here, but I agree that without it it's not even in the same level of Thor: Ragnarok.
After seeing it, I can say that Arrival is the better film here.
While the plot is a bit slow paced, the characters, story and soundtrack are all great. Denis did a good job in making an alien movie without showing us the aliens or what they want at start. A great movie for overall one of the best directors of this decade.
As overrated as it is, Arrival by a large margin.
Gotta disagree here, it felt fresh and an interesting slow-burn movie.
@doomquestz: I don't have a problem with slow movies, but I didn't find arrival that interesting. The story is based on the strong version of Sapir–Whorf hypothesis on steroids, which in layman's terms means the idea that language not only influences thought, but rather determines and limits it, which has long since been refuted. I read another story from Ted Chiang, who wrote the story Arrival was based on, and it shared the same flaw. Both stories start as a hard Sci-Fi, but get so over-the-top that they can't be really taken seriously. Now, the linguistic and scientific sides of things aside, I didn't find it that compelling dramatically either. The movie spends so much of its time with the aliens, that the other plot-lines like the mother-daughter and husband-wife relationships, as well as the world building of the movie at large, become so unexamined and insignificant that once we are supposed to see the effects of the alien language on those elements, we don't particularly care, and the first and third act more or less fall flat.
Though I gotta say, I only saw the movie once and that was around four years ago when the movie was still new, so take what I say with a grain of salt.
@theinsufferable: I disagree but I see your point.
