Of all of the swordfighters in fictional history if they were all lowered onto a human's level of strength, speed etc. Who would be the best? Are you going the anime route and saying zoro or Kenshin Himora? Will you take the video game route and say Clouds Strife or Link. Or will you take the comic route and say Task Master or Death stroke? Anyone from any form of fiction is up for grabs, who will you choose? All contenders have their weapon of choice and if the weapon elevates their power that effect (but not their ability to use them) is nullified.(I just tookel the first names that came to mind.)
Best swordfighter in fictional history.
My "obscure" pick here would be Assassin (Kojirou) from Fate. Within the story, he was literally able to defy the laws of physics through skill alone. It's explicitly stated in the narration. I think that's pretty impressive.
From anime/manga in general maybe Kenshin.
From the comic book side of things...maybe Zealot.
In Anime: Kenshin Himura though Hiko Seijuro is on a whole different level.
Other contendors in Anime: Rurounoa Zoro, Hawkeye Mihawk, Hiei, Byakuya Kuchiki. Are some of those that come to mind. Hiei is probably the most powerful out of those, but part of what makes them great are their vast Superhuman abilities, and the author mentioned bringing them down to the same human level. So their advantages in power and speed become nill. Hence swordsmen like Kenshin would shine because he is already skilled at the human level, albeit he could move at sub-sonic speeds but it's still more realistic and down to Earth then those other characters.
In Video Games: Link, no doubt in my mind. With Z-Targeting and his indestructible shield & sword combo - he's completely invincible, or at least he is when I am in control of him =P
The choreography in Princess and the Bride was amazing. Didn't that same guy do Zorro, Star Wars, and Pirates of the Caribbean?
Yup! The sword fight scene in TPB is probably the best swordfight I've ever seen on film. The others I can think of were all done by him too.
