@jackookabura: One interesting thing I noticed about the latest Justice League run is that Grodd has a spot on the newest iteration of the Legion of Doom along with villains who are all considered to be their heroes respective arch enemy.

Which Reverse Flash? The Rival? Professor Zoom/Eobard Thawne? Zoom/Hunter Zolomon? Inertia?

Reverse Flash isn't an individual. It's an entire group name for arch nemesis speedsters for any inheritor of the Flash title.

Grodd fits the "greatest enemy" bill the most, quality of character aside.

@life_without_progress: I was referencing Professor Zoom as I mentioned Barry Allen's Flash. Most heroes have a arch rival that is more of a mirror image (For instance, all the Reverse Flash archetypes). I am specifically looking at rogues of Barry Allen that aren't speedsters

He clearly stated Barry Allen in the OP so doesn't that eliminate The Rival (Jay Garrick enemy) and Hunter Zolomon (Wally West enemy) right away? You know it's not Inertia and that it's obviously Eobard Thawne that he was speaking about. No need for this post.

@irishx: Honestly, I'm just a little peeved nowadays that people would just refer to Thawne as "Reverse Flash" than "Professor Zoom". It's a name that fits the individual character to be more memorable than the name for the entire group.

Anyways, from that list, It's Grodd. Honestly though, besides Thawne, I'd say Anti-Monitor is the most significant villain in Barry's life since their encounter and how it ended is pretty much the only interesting thing about Barry's character in modern continuity.

They’re both kind of neck and neck. I gave Cold the edge because he was created first, and Grodd is occasionally used as other hero’s villain too, while Cold is typically only ever used as a Flash villain.

@life_without_progress: I hear ya. If he used that it would be more clear. I actually read a convincing article once how Mirror Master was the Flash's best enemy but I think they are all great so I can understand someone making an argument for each.

They all seem like his greatest threats and, just like the other of his enemies if nerfed, others as well depending on the story. Grodd seems to be the one that can handle Flash the most in feats. The other two are good, but idk enough on them.

Well, it's complicated because I think that the three main enemies of Barry Allen are Gorilla Grodd, Captain Cold, and Professor Zoom. I see this as a similar arrangement as Spider-Man's three main enemies being Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, and Venom. Each one has the potential to be their respective counterpart's arch enemy and have been portrayed as such over the years. It truly is up to preference. I prefer The Goblin for Spider-Man and Grodd for The Flash. Granted, there haven't been the best representation and story-lines for Grodd and Cold, but I'm sure with the right writers, their potential as true archenemies could be found!

Cold is a friendly enemy

@camilopezo: I think you're right about Cold being too much of a friendly enemy instead of an outright villain. Grodd takes the cake for me.

I found two scans that I think accurately sum up Cold and Grodd's relationship to eachother.

I think Grodd. He has had more storylines where he is a direct threat to The Flash. Ones that come to mind are Gorilla Warefare, Forever Evil, and Perfect Storm. All of which he is THE major threat. Captain Cold only really has his King Cold arc when it comes to being the sole major threat. He has worked with the Rogues many times to be a major threat, but on his own... not as much. I also noticed during the Legion of Zoom arc (where both Grodd and Cold are members), Grodd seems to be held in a higher regard and even when he attacks he is is the only villain given an Emergency Code. This shows he is more of a major threat to The Flash. He even is a major threat to Wally West's Flash which shows he is a threat to the Flash legacy also!

I think they both could equally be Barry's greatest enemy, but it all would depend on the writing.....
