Avatar: If Non-Benders could Bend

If the non benders of the Avatar world were assigned an element, which one do you think would best suit them?

For Example; Despite being from the Fire Nation, I've always thought that Ty Lee would make a great Airbender. She has a care free and optimistic personality. She is happy with a nomadic type of lifestyle, like joining the circus or becoming a member of the Kyoshi Warriors who often venture out and help wherever needed. Airbending is notable for being the most defensive among the elements, and her style of fighting, chi-blocking, is non lethal. She quite agile and is able to jump extremely high and her movements seem almost weightless at times. Her evasiveness and acrobatics lead her to dance around her opponents similarly to what Aang does. And just for fun, Ty Lee and Aang look similar too.

Airbenders typically have a higher sense of spiritual awareness and Ty Lee is an expert on chi and chakra, given her ability to block it. And she has the ability to sense and read peoples' auras. In Smoke and Shadow Part One, Mai asks Ty Lee if she can get a read on Kei Lo.

Sokka and Varrick are the hardest to pick one for because they are such definitive nonbenders in my mind. The others I don’t really have a strong enough opinion on to comment.

Ty Lee is undeniably an airbender. Mai is likely a firebender, Suki an earthbender and Piandao if a firebender as well. Guru Pathik would be the Avatar.

Most nonbenders just seem firebender esque because several firebenders could be nonbenders and still whoop Ghazan to the curb.

Ty Lee would definitely be air. That combined with her current skills would make her an even more incredible fighter. Similarly, the Lieutenant would also be complimented well with airbending considering his fighting style.

Mai I could honestly see as water or earth. I know this is an odd take, but I think that a more solid element would compliment her precision more.

I could honestly see Suki and Asami with any element. Each one would compliment them well for various reasons.

The rest of them would probably just be what would be their native elements.

• Ty Lee - You can't change my mind she's an air Nomad descendant, look at how she fights, her nature and lastly, the color of her eyes.
• Mai - She's extremely precise and I see her perfectly fit in with Kuruk/Jianzhu's custom Earthbending style, so earth.
• Suki - Being a Kyoshi warrior, ANTHP pointed out how Kyoshi warriors have similarities with Rangi's h2h style, but I have envisioned her as an Earthbender generally.
• Sokka - can say water, but fire works so well with swords, so I think fire would apt for him.
• Piandao - Fire
• June - Perhaps Water, she seems so fluid when she fights, and a whip looks like a perfect completementary tool for water.
• Jet - Air
• Ursa - can't say much lol(but perhaps fire because native element)
• Guru Pathik - can't really say again
• Cabbage Man - Water or Earth, so that he can protect his cabbages.
• Asami - Fire
• Lieu Lieu (The Lieutenant) - the guy might kill himself if he gets bending, but I'll say fire due to his aggressive nature.

@eslay03: She's one of my favorite Avatar characters of all time...so I find that opinion laughable. However, we are all entitled to our opinion. She's defined by her tenacity, inginuity, optimism, and desire to do the right thing at all costs.

I appreciate your understanding of subjectivity, and I respect your opinion as well. There’s plenty of characters that click with me that don’t with others.
