ATLA/LOK Community Tier List Rankings!
...Aight bet. I didn't really look at the the "semi-official" rankings that you posted, but I'm gonna continue the trend of dropping the new people into my preceding rankings.
Note: I haven't been ordering the people in their respective tiers, so if someone's name is "first", it's not because I think they're better than the names listed below them in the same tier.
@bigdreamer48 Would you prefer I put each category in spoiler blocks to shorten up the length, or is it fine as it is?

@indomitableregal: I like the spoiler block idea. I clutters the thread less and makes me easier to check things off as I'm looking at everyone's rankings.
@bigdreamer48: Okay. No problem. I can't edit the post I already did, but I'll do the spoiler blocks going forward.

Notes:
• Tenzin is insane and honestly kind of underrated. Solidly grandmaster with his practically perfect mix of offense and defense.
• Lin not only is extremely talented with earth and metal, but she has also shown herself to have really good physicals. She’s strong, quick, agile, durable, and skilled.
• Bolin to me, is probably going to stay near the top of sub-master even as we continue this ranking. He grew tremendously as a earthbender from B1 to the end of the series, and lavabending is very formidable.
• Tonraq displayed plenty of waterbending talent while facing against Unalaq and Zaheer. He lost both those fights, but his performances against them is enough to comfortably place him in sub-master.
• Iroh II and Mako are mostly comparable to me. I actually would probably give the edge to Iroh though and I’m surprised many others have him a whole tier below Mako. Both have shown to be very similar with their lighting and firebending. However, Iroh II has shown that he can use the ability to use fire jets (something Mako can’t do), and has the status of being a very capable general.
• Yaling and Laling were immensely impressive in “Imbalance”. Their abilities looked to be right around sub-master. Yaling also showed great adaptability in her two battles vs Toph.
• Asami is a top tier skilled nonbender. I will say, I did still put her below Jet and The Blue Spirit.
@bigdreamer48: ive done it , check my board, I didn't rank the kyoshi character tho.
I'll put mine in a spoilers block as well.

With that many addition i just explain the higher ups. I put Ozai with Sozin's Comet the highest, cause he should be the strongest out of them all at this moment in time. He is the without Sozin's Comet the lowest in that tier, cause he is just in that tier by him being stronger than Azula before the comics happened. Tenzin has several stellar showings, i think that speaks for itself. Sozin is the lowest in his tier, cause he has just around 2 showings and less hype than the old masters.
Lin has great showings, but not as many as Zuko or as much firepower as Combustion Man. Yalling made it into her tier cause of her stellar performance versus Toph, and i put Liling together with her cause i don't know how to put her otherwise. Bolin and Mako just made it cause of their lava and lightning, and i am on the fence about Iroh II.
@m-sorowitch: It's fine. That's why I'm keeping it in the same thread.

@bigdreamer48: this has to be the hardest lol, I'm gonna try my best with these.
why is azula In the same tier as comet ozai and a tier above her peers ??
What has she done that gives her a clear superiority over ozai, katara, king bumi??
Why is full moon pakku in the same tier as comet ozai??

Reasons for a few placements:
- Rangi was the most impressive and arguably most powerful bender among Kyoshi's companions. So, I'd have her at high tier at the very least, although I'd probably move her below Zuko later, but I'll have to see her showings again.
- Lek was the first dust-stepper we've seen and deserves a merit at high tier at max.
- I'd have Wong and Kirima at high tier as well. We haven't seen much from them, but enough to suggest they're better than those at mid-tier easily.
- Coming to the famed companions of Kuruk, Hei-Ran arguably is the lowest of three. Her status as the firebender with the most wins(kills) in Agni Kai is enough to say she was the best firebender of her time(maybe excluding Kuruk which I'm not sure of though). I'd have her close to the lower level white lotus grandmasters, i.e., Pakku and Jeong Jeong than the high end ones like Bumi or Iroh. Kelsang and Jianzhu both have high end showings where they both took on fleets on their own and defeated them, Kelsang conjured a storm(giving him the nickname The Living Typhoon) and turned back a fleet of ships while Jianzhu used monoliths that Kyoshi erupted using the avatar state and broke a large a number of ships. I put Jianzhu above Kelsang since we got to see more about him and his precision as a bender which complements well with his power showings as well, making him a well rounded bender.
- This is the most tricky one of the lot, I don't really believe Yun was boosted after his fusion with Father Glowworm. Given, his battle with the evil spirit was still the most impressive showing of power and resilience we've seen from the False avatar even if Avatar Kuruk weakened the spirit to a great extent. But for the purposes of this thread, I'll place post-fusion Yun above his pre-fusion self since he should be capable of everything he did during his time in the spirit world. These most probably puts him close, but probably below the level of someone like King Bumi in my opinion. Now comes the part which confuses me, Yun managed to easily drop all of Kyoshi's allies and Kyoshi herself all at once and was barely even tagged throughout the whole fight and needed to let his guard down for Kyoshi to kill him. I'm not exactly sure where he'd be placed relatively to the other avatars due to this specific moment.
@chloros, @tektonic, @aystarr, @bigdreamer48 since you're partaking in the thread actively and have read the novels, I'm curious to hear your thoughts about where you'd place Yun relative to King Bumi and Kyoshi(since I'm not entirely clear at the moment).
@anthp2000, I know you've already stated what you think about him in another post earlier, if you don't mind, I just wanted to know if you'll put Kyoshi and Yun in the same tier(?). I hope I am bothering you with this a lot lol, since we've had similar discussions earlier.
@viking1205: You're not bothering me at all.
Still haven't finished re-reading The Shadow of Kyoshi, however I always questioned Yun truly being better than Kyoshi because of the final battle. When you consider the fact that the one moment he explicitly had a winning advantage over her -- when he trapped her in liquified earth -- was a result of her leaving her guard down, thinking she had convinced him to have a change of heart, and him surprising her there with an attack from behind, I don't think it's evidence he's better than her. Beyond their initial clash with the earth bullets and the final kill-take down, the only other time in the battle Kyoshi went on the offensive was when she tried to trap him with earthbending herself.
Now yes, Yun was not trying to kill Kyoshi either, at least not in the beginning, but I think his style is much more well suited to winning a duel where the fighters aren't trying to genuinely kill in the first place. And he was surely more offensive than Kyoshi throughout the fight, sending spikes her way, and severely injuring her allies. Kyoshi really only decided to murder him after he basically gutted Rangi. And even by the end of the story, she was clearly not very happy with that decision.
That's not to say that Yun wasn't a threat to Kyoshi, or that this wasn't an exceptional combat showing, but I'm not sure he would have defeated the Avatar if this were a fight to the death from the get-go. Or even if he would have, I don't think it'd be this easy. There's also the fact that if you're ranking the characters at their most recent versions, it should be considered that Kyoshi grew a lot during her time, evidently. Her earthbending was a lot more refined than it was in the novels by the time she trained the Dai Li into the precise, stealthy, skillful style we saw from them in the series, and we know that at some point down the line she learned how to lavabend.
===========================================================
Sidequestion: Do you think Yun could bend glass like Kyoshi did? I would consider it a new sub-skill of earthbending, I couldn't help my excitement when I first read that chapter. And all this reminds me I have to pull my shocks up and type the airbending blog. It was just harder to do than the other for a multitude of reasnos. Anyway, let me know your thoughts on the above!
Beyond their initial clash with the earth bullets and the final kill-take down, the only other time in the battle Kyoshi went on the offensive was when she tried to trap him with earthbending herself.
I'd agree with this mostly but I didn't think Kyoshi was holding herself back to a large extent, just adding my thoughts. Other than the one time Kyoshi tried to trap him in quicksand as you mentioned, there were four other moments when Kyoshi tried to land an attack on him, of which two were non-bending strikes, so I suppose they don't mean a lot in context of the fight since they wouldn't harm him in any meaningful way.
- The first one was before Yun entrapped her with liquefied earth, when she thrust an air blast on him which he evaded.
- The other attempt from Kyoshi was a huge fireball she conjured to strike Yun mid air while jet-stepping. Her accuracy was off in this moment and Rangi had to step in to correct its course.
To summarize what I think, these are moments that swayed me into thinking that Kyoshi was pretty serious against Yun, although I'm still unclear how it would turn out if Kyoshi was morals off right from the start.
Now yes, Yun was not trying to kill Kyoshi either, at least not in the beginning
Exactly what I was thinking as well Neither wanted to kill each other. He wasn't trying to kill them even after he trapped Kirima and Wong, to be frank.
Yun struck them about the shoulders with the flying lumps of clay, in the stomach and back. Kyoshi knew he didn’t want to knock them out. He wanted to chastise them. This was a punishment befitting of those who overstepped their bounds. To put the finishing touches on his statement, he made sure Kyoshi and Rangi each took the final training disk to their jaws. The impact flung them head over heels, laying them out on their backs, leaving them both gasping at the sky overhead, choking on the suspended dust.

That's not to say that Yun wasn't a threat to Kyoshi, or that this wasn't an exceptional combat showing, but I'm not sure he would have defeated the Avatar if this were a fight to the death from the get-go. Or even if he would have, I don't think it'd be this easy.
This is exactly my doubt as well, I'm not entirely sure what the result would be if there was a rematch and if Kyoshi and Yun go all out right from the start. Also, for what it's worth, the mansion of Yokoya is extremely unfair for waterbenders, so once again, I'm not sure how a fight would go if it was in a more neutral setting like the catacombs.
Alright, I never thought about this while making the ranking. That is a perfectly valid point especially about lavabending, so I'm not going to change much of what I made earlier.
About your question regarding bending glass, I wouldn't put it entirely beyond his capability since he seems to control earth in very minute forms like he did when he bent pigments of earth in paint, and with glass being super heated sand, bending it shouldn't be out of his levels if he tries to in my opinion.
And, do tag me in the airbending blog.
@viking1205: considering I've forgotten everything in kyoshi's story (like feats and other parts, I just remember some of the plot and important parts) and how hard it is for me to guage comic feats in general, this took me a while to sort on my own.
But I agree with most if not all of your reasoning behind the placements,
Im gonna put kirima and wong in the lowest of high tier because of their lack of feats, I remember next to nothing about them apart from maybe kirirma's mist stepping.
I agree with heiran but I think rangi should also be moved to master tier, probably above or below lin.
I agree with jianzhu and kelsang too, I Initially Saw them above the atla girls but I realized I was just using the hype from my first read to base them, so I put them below because the girls just have more impressive feats TBH.
Yun is like azula imo, they've some over the top feats but that doesn't necessarily mean they're powerful than the people they beat combined.
I don't think there's much amp after fusion and I'm still gonna place him around that toph/king bumi level overall, I dont see him being superior to the likes of kem azula, comics katara and comics toph based on feats, equals at Best.
They're all close tho.
- I had a hard time but I'm done with the new set, (i don't get paid enough for this lol), also I don't think there is need for the pre and post fusion Yun separation.
- I also changed my iroh placement and I added jeong( I think I forgot to add him) so you can check that out.
- I could also see the comic characters at the low end of the high tier being in mid tier.
- I also forgot to tell you that the dotted line separating the bloodbenders from the cometeers is the first class tier division so that should be noted.

Former teachers for Avatar Kuruk. That in itself says a lot, you are only going to have great masters train the Avatar (unless circumstances prevent it of course). Jianzhu's power, mobility and creative earthbending is fantastic. I agree with Viking's assessment on them also.
I wasn't under the impression Yun got a power boost? I would rank him the same. I'm not sure if I should put him with Katara or a bit up with Bumi. His power, tunneling, special bendings, like paint and liquefy earth are all amazing. As well as his final fight against Kyoshi an friends.

Experienced fighters, mastered enough to where they were comfortable teaching Kyoshi. Impressive dust/mist stepping as a great form of mobility. To me, Yun is right up there with King Bumi. I could see an argument being made for him to beat Bumi. Better tunneling, better quicksand, liquified earth, bending paint, etc.
Kysohi is harder, because we would have to take out the Avatar State and that fact that she was young and still fairly new. But at that current time in the book, I think Yun was stronger than base Kyoshi. I don't think Kyoshi having more water would make a difference. We saw how he was basically toying with her and her friends. She ultimately had to trick him to bring him down.
@tektonic since you're partaking in the thread actively and have read the novels, I'm curious to hear your thoughts about where you'd place Yun relative to King Bumi and Kyoshi(since I'm not entirely clear at the moment).
I'd place Yun above Kyoshi for the obvious fact he pretty much outright stomped her. It would be different if the final battle was an isolated incident contradictory to another. But it's completely consistent, and Kyoshi never fought anyone superior to scale above.
- Yun defeated Kyoshi at the FN royal palace, almost killing her
- Yun overpowered Kyoshi when he tried to assasinate Hei Ran
- Yun defeated Kyoshi multiple times in a single fight sequence when she had multiple people helping her, I can't in good conscious suggest she is stronger when her battle record compared to him is - to be blunt quite miserable
And I agree with your examples, both Yun and Kyoshi were out for blood at certain points, Yun was just better, we don't know how powerful Kyoshi was in her prime but as of Shadow she was distinctly below him
To me, Yun is right up there with King Bumi. I could see an argument being made for him to beat Bumi. Better tunneling, better quicksand, liquified earth, bending paint, etc.

Also this
Correct me if I'm wrong, both of you place Bumi and Yun at the same plane, a notch above Kyoshi outside the avatar state at the end of The Shadow of Kyoshi(?) and the version of Kyoshi you've used in this rankings is her prime version, after she beat Chin the Conqueror, stopped a peasant uprising and trained the Dai Li(?)
I have Kyoshi above him with her prime version but if we are talking about just the end of The Shadow of Kyoshi book, I have Yun above her without the Avatar State. I only used her prime version in my list, except for the Legendary Tier part which I include all the Avatars with the Avatar State in it.
To summarize what I think, these are moments that swayed me into thinking that Kyoshi was pretty serious against Yun, although I'm still unclear how it would turn out if Kyoshi was morals off right from the start.
I agree. I can see Yun very much winning against Kyoshi regardless, but the context of their mindsets is important, especially considering how far into gore these novels were willing to go -- this is why I'd think an earthbender holding back to any noticable extent would be of much more importance here than it would be in the series. As long as we're trying to establish what the writers intented for the characters and their abilities, of course.
To me, Yun is right up there with King Bumi. I could see an argument being made for him to beat Bumi. Better tunneling, better quicksand, liquified earth, bending paint, etc.
I partially agree with this as well, though. While I'd definitely back King Bumi in a duel, because I don't think we saw enough power from Yun to match the retaking of Omashu (and bending scale becomes increasingly important the higher you go up the tiers, IMO), I believe Yun is fairly well on his level.
I'm only really ranking Kyoshi as off the novel, I don't think Prime Kyoshi has many feats outside of the AS.
@bigdreamer48: These are all Kyoshi book characters, right? IF that's the case, I'm gonna skip this, and I'll be back for the next round.
@indomitableregal: Yes, they are all Kyoshi characters. That's perfectly fine, next round should be up in the next few days.

@bigdreamer48:this has to be one of the most pleasing set, it makes up for the headache I had trying to sort the last one out lol.
I also changed some things in low tier, I moved jinpa and the yuyan archers down a little, so make any adjustments needed.
@viking1205: i just wanna oppose some things:
- I think tho and due are supposed to be ranked together like eska and desna.
-your iroh II placement is a war crime lol.
-Viper as a bender is better than a unit yuyan Archer.
- A unit equalist had better feats than bee and Longshot
- remember that full moon hama in a tier ranking is becomes a separatecharacter entirely from base hama, and she is a better waterbender than tarrlok (who is in base form) while also having the ability to bloodbend (which tarrlok doesn't have an edge over like Amon and yakone with psychic BB), she should rank above him in first class.

Ok, I've finished this next one.
God Tier
- Cosmic Spirit Korra
- Unavaatu
- Koizilla Aang
Legendary Tier
- Avatars in the Avatar State
First Class Tier I
- Full Moon Katara
- Amon***
- Yakone***
- Full Moon Hama
- Tarrlok***
If this was only about bloodbending, I would have the family in the top, but taking other waterbending feats into account, I have them below Katara and Tarrlok under Hama. All very powerful and fit for this category since they only thing that can stop a bloodbender, is a more powerful one (Katara vs Hama), or the Avatar State (like when Aang used it against Yakone).
First Class Tier II
- Roku
- Korra/Aang
- Yangchen/Kyoshi
- Kuruk
- Comet Ozai
- Comet Iroh
- Comet Jeong Jeong
- Comet Zuko
- King Bumi/Yun
Grandmaster Tier
- Katara
- Comet Azula (insane), Azula
- Tenzin
- Ozai
- Toph
- Full Moon Pakku
- Monk Gyatso
- Iroh

High Tier

- Huu***
- Tagaka
- Yaling
- Liling
- Kirima
- Wong
- Lek
- Suki/Ty Lee
- Mai
- Piandao
Huu in the swamp is very dangerous and he's still the best plantbender to date. His abilities to reform and maintain his monster construct while simultaneously attacking from multiple directions is impressive. It's possible he could be slightly higher.
Mid-Tier
- Long Feng/Dai Li Agent
- Jinpa
- June and Nyla
- Tonraq
- Tho and Due (Foggy Swamp)***
- Asami
- Iroh II
- The Lieutenant***
- The Blue Spirit
- Yuyan Archer

- Zhao
- Jet
- Sokka
- Longshot***
- Gow
- Thod (North and South)
- Ho Tun (The Promise)
- Penga (The Promise)
- The Dark One (The Promise)
Tho and Duo aren't as impressive as Huu and outside of the swamp more average benders but still decent. The Lieutenant was beaten by Asami so he's a bit under her.
Low Tier
- The Boulder
- The Big Bad Hippo
- The Gecko
- The Gopher
- Hakoda
- Viper***
- Tyro
- Haru
- Gilak (North and South)
- Smellerbee***
- Aiwei
- Misu
- Mok
- Lao Ge (Kyoshi)
- Kei Lo (Smoke and Shadow)
I don't remember much from Smellerbee that would place her any higher. Viper was a low level thug.
...Aight bet. I'm back to ranking after skipping the Kyoshi round. As per usual, I'll be dropping the new people into my preceding rankings.
Note: I haven't been ordering the people in their respective tiers, so if someone's name is "first", it's not because I think they're better than the names listed below them in the same tier.
