Are you excited for James Cameron's Avatar 2?

It looks visually stunning but it's been so long since the first one that the hype for a sequel is well and truly gone for me.

If I hear good things about it, I'll definitely check it out

People doubted the first Avatar, and yet it broke records. James Camerson has made two of the highest grossing films ever with Titanic and Avatar. Titanic held the top spot until Cameron decided to release Avatar. He broke his own records.

Tbh, I don't even think a sequel was needed but since they decided to do it, it took them way too much to release it.

I'm not stoked about it but will definitely see it if it's good.

The first one was only so successful because of the new filming/3D technology & it being James Cameron. Yes it was visually stunning, but everything else about the movie was pretty mediocre.

I'm aware of that. I think they are really stretching it thin with all these sequels. The first might do ok but the other two? I doubt that.

@ilambda: Yeah, it is my actual face and I put it years ago in when I first came to ComicVine but nowadays I think it might have been a mistake because it is safer to keep more privacy when you are online. I dunno, I just like being authentic and showing who I really am as a person. I've thought about changing my profile pic to a character that I like e.g. Exodia from Yu-Gi-Oh but since I've had my face here for years now I think changing things would be like a big change so I've just kept it as it is :-) and yeah, I was a medical student years ago so there's a skull-less skeleton that my family calls 'Larry' behind me, his skull is somewhere else.

@ilambda: It's not a real skeleton, it's made of man-made materials and stuff.

Honestly, never say never, and that's what makes it exciting! At face value NWH was a gigantic pop-culture moment pushed by the near unstoppable Marvel machine, hard to challenge that in this era of movie going.

BUT James Cameron has done it twice before, when Titanic was projected to be a massive flop for the studio but ended up capturing the hearts of the world, and when Avatar introduced a new world to top it. I heard the trailer did quite well in global accumulation of viewership. So it's not impossible, but won't be easy.

Avatar wasn't original, it was based on Pocahontas and Ferngully and perhaps other stuff.

I am rather indifferent, the visuals and special effects of the first movie were amazing, and the late James Horner's music was beautiful, but I wasn't impressed by the story at all and I largely prefer Miyazaki's movies to talk about the subject of ecology and environment.
