People are quick to jump to the point that the MCU does not have any memorable scores. While I agree that they are for the most part not iconic, some are actually pretty memorable and powerful.

There is two different categories in this topic. Having a good theme vs the score for the whole film is different. This is where I people are quick to praise the DCEU. The DCEU does have great theme's for their individual characters, but overall the main score does not seem any different than an MCU score to me. According to the early twitter reactions for Thor: Ragnarok the original score got praised by not a couple, but a lot of people. Hopefully this can end MCU's unlucky streak with music.

MCU films with underrated scores:

1. Captain America: TFA (Theme only)
2. The Avengers (Theme only)
3. Thor: The Dark World (Theme only)
4. Captain America: The Winter Soldier (Seriously, how do people not remember the music in this film)
5. Guardians of the Galaxy (Beautiful music)
6. Ant-Man (Theme only)
7. Doctor Strange (This film has some of the best music I have ever heard in a Superhero film tbh)
8. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (Once again, beautiful music)

Maybe I just remember them more than other people, but certainly I cannot be the only one right?

@saberscar223:

Forgot all about that one, ironically. I wouldn't say the overall score is anything special but the theme and Monumental Meltdown is great

Idk. It’s something I never really thought about with the MCU before. For me, I don’t think their music or scores are bad or underrated. But I will say this tho, none of the scores have stuck with me over the years. John Williams “Superman: The Movie” score has stuck with me, Danny Elfmans “Batman” theme has stuck with me, Danny Elfmans “Spider-Man”’ theme has stuck with me, Hans Zimmers “Man of Steel”’ theme has stuck with me. Han Zimmers “Batman Begins” score has stuck with me, Hell even Zimmers and Junkie XL’s Wonder Woman theme is burned into my brain.

I’ve seen the many MCU movies countless times, be it on TV or DVD or the theater or whatever, but I couldn’t hum a single score from any of their movies or characters...it’s just odd, never really thought about that until now.

No I found them totally lacklustre and terrible.

Yeah I think that they are a bit underrated. The Thor the Dark World theme is very good and Winter Soldier has an excellent soundtrack.

There are perhaps 4 tracks from MCU movies that I remember and only 3 of which I actually want to listen to if I come across them:

  • Avengers main theme, not one I care to listen to.
  • Guardians of the Galaxy, Sanctuary (Thanos theme)
  • Captain America 2, The Winter Soldier
  • Incredible Hulk, The Arctic (a score for an opening scene that was cut from the movie)

And I think the problem with all of the others is that they are just sort of there in the background and quite happy to not be noticed over all the explosions and whatever else is going on. By contrast (and in disagreement with the OP), Hans Zimmer's music (and his fondness for drums) rather demands that you pay attention to it, as if it's competing with the stuff on the screen.

@ithemanwithoutfeari: Well, Cap's movies usually have the best music and actions in the MCU tbh

Yeah easily. TWS and Civil War are the best MCU movies with the best music, but I hope Infinity War changes that.

Winter Soldier pretty good. After few listens, Homecoming theme more or less stuck with me.

On the other hand, Netflix series scores amazing for me especially Daredevil and Jessica Jones opening.

Just listen to this, The Dark World has a beautiful score that is under rated and slept on.

Age of Ultron also has a pretty good score

That's fair but I do think it raises some good points, particularly regarding temp music.

They have some good ones. I don't think the MCU has really had any composers that can compete with Hans Zimmer's MOS soundtrack though. That stuff is just too good.
