Are Game of Thrones Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen a good couple?
Game of Thrones with the incest (wincest?) nar i'm kidding I don't like them as a couple. Seems forced.
Taking away the fact that they are family, they would make for an interesting couple. Dany is a very strong woman which is Jon's type of girl.
They're one hell of a power couple in Westeros. It's hard to say if they're a good couple yet. I absolutely adore their first encounters in the episode they meet, but their subsequent scenes haven't been as good. They definitely rushed their courtship and as a result everything feels a bit forced. He's also a bit dumb for her, but that generally seems to be her type. I prefer him with Ygritte and her with Drogo, but they have the potential to be a good couple, morally if not romantically. They balance each others strengths and weaknesses well. I think he's the the weak link in the relationship. Honor only gets you so far in their treacherous and brutal world. Luckily for John, Danny has Tyrion to intellectually spar with, he's a perfect tripod for their relationship. The three of them make a good couple.....trio.
@jedixman: I can't deny your reasoning. Do you agree with my assessment that they hinted heavily that the two are going to have a child?
I did not see that you said that, but I would agree.
The moment that highlighted how poorly executed this romance is was when Davos had to explicitly say "I've seen how you look at the queen," despite the audience never really seeing it. It broke the "show, don't tell" rule of storytelling - but, as I said, that has been common in this show lately.

Yeah that and other things got on my nerves and came off as forced. If done well or at least not as bad as it was I wouldn't be so against it.
Notice how they kept pointing out that she can't have a baby? That's like tv-101 that she will have one.
No, it is boring, forced and incestuous.
As far as their positions go? Yeah. Dany is a queen, and the reason she dumped Dario was because she needed a suitable match to someone of her stature. While there are still numerous high lords in the books, the show is very different. Dany had very few options arriving in Westeros. The most suitable bachelors in the realm at the time was Robin Arryn; the lord of the vale, Jamie Lanister; who should be the current Warden of the West since being removed as a King's Guard, Euron Greyjoy; the current King of Pyke, and Jon who was King in the north at the time.
Dany sided with Yara, putting her at odds with Euron. Jaimi killed her father. This leaves Jon and Robin as the only suitable options. And while Robin has the better forces, he is easily manipulated, a child, a little bit off in the head to put it politely. Jon was her best option politically going forward, which makes it weird that a marriage alliance was never brought up between the two until Littlefinger did in the finale. And even he noted that a union between Jon and Dany would make the pair almost unbeatable. Plus they do balance each other out. While they both want to help the people as a whole, Dany is quick to resort to violence and dragons, while Jon is more cautious, and thinks about the ramifications of using such excessive force, and the image it would create, and Dany has been shown to listen to his counsel. On the flip of that, Jon is naive and has a tendency to be too honorable, traits that got his family killed. Dany is more politically minded, and realizes that cruelty is sometimes a necessity in political games and warfare.
Incest aside, politically speaking, yes they're a good pairing.
RIP Game of Thrones writing (show only)

Season 5 was worse.
@jedixman: Jon actually catches himself staring at her in ep5 on the cliff.
Its subtle but its there. Mind you i think Davos is line came first
I think they did a decent job myself. Jon and Dany are way different with way more things at stake than earlier seasons. We weren't gonna see over the top fluff as much as with say Ygritte

If Davos' line came first, then it was his comment that caused Jon to look at her - he put the suggestion in Jon's head. If the Jon scene came first, the fact that Davos had to spell it out still sounds like bad writing to me.

Sure, but we could have gotten more than:
- Kneel
- No
- Kneel
- No
- Kneel
- White Walkers, tho
- Oh, okay...
- *Kneels anyway*
- Sex

Yeah, pacing of this realtionship (and this season in general) suffers heavily beceuse of seven episodes only.
No way, it feels forced, underdeveloped and something a fan fic writer would do rather than the script writer for a TV show.

Lol this is a very accurate summation of the Jon/Dany romance.
@jedixman: Rushed? I saw this coming for at least a couple of seasons. They both were ascending towards the throne and we know they not going to fight. It was poorly executed though. The cut the season down to save money. I hope they put it all in the final season. I guess dragons cost money.
@lvenger: GRRM will do it better assuming he gets off his ass but its going to happen in the books as well.
There's a couple dozens clues and hints plastered throughout the books foreshadowing this. There's a reddit post i can link you that has compiled them if you're okay with spoilers
@fallschirmjager: I figured GRMM is going to do this in the books as well given the significance of this plot point in the show. Hard to say when he'll get around to it what with the numerous delays on The Winds of Winter.
Yeah I'm fine with book spoilers, I'd like to see that link please.

Some of them are literally within the first few pages of book 1. R+L=J has been 20 years in the making lol. Insane.
My favorite one
Robert snorted. "Bogs and forests and fields and scarcely a decent inn north of the Neck. I've never seen such a vast emptiness. Where are all your people?"
"Likely they were too shy to come out," Ned jested. He could feel the chill coming up the stairs, a cold breath from deep within the earth. "Kings are a rare sight in the North."
Robert snorted. "More than likely they were hiding under the snow. Snow, Ned!"
EDDARD I, A GAME OF THRONES, p. 33-34
@fallschirmjager: So GRMM always had a plan to put those two together from the sounds of that interview. Guess this must have been a long time coming. Thanks for the link, this is interesting reading.
