Fox CBMs in general weren't that good in terms of relationships. Even long-established relationships like Reed Richards and Sue Storm weren't handled aptly enough. The nearest thing to a relationship with chemistry I can think of was Deadpool and Vanessa, and I don't even like that couple much inside or outside of comics.

The relationship between Wolverine and Jean in the movie was like wolverine saying: Hey, I'm the central figure of the movie, and you're a hot girl, so let's get it on.
