Alicent or Rhaenyra?
Who do you simpathize with more in general?
Who do you think was right in S1 E7 in regards to the Aemond situation?
Rhaenyra.
Alicent's only motivations are fear, anger, revenge, and envy toward Rhaenyra. She's abusing Aegon and teaching him to hate his sister and his nephews.
Her allies like Crispin, Otto, Larys, and her children (with the exception of Helaena) all suck as well.
Meanwhile, Rhaenyra is just trying to overcome the obstacles of being a female in that society and prove herself. Trying to get the privileges that men have.
The real answer is Laena but the writer's room knew she'd steal the spotlight from the other two too much
Alicent all the way.
Its crazy how king visy bucked centuries and tradition and risked angering the lords of westeros to make his daughter his heir. And all she had to do was find a noble man to marry and not get caught in any drama. Then instead of that she gets caught publicly trying to bone her uncle then pressures a king's guard knight into breaking his vows since she was bored and horny. Then she has 3 obvious bastards with no claim to the throne that everyone has to lie about to protect her.
She could've literally just married ser harwin from the get go and saved everyone a ton of trouble.
@j_normal: Aemond didn't instigate anything. Rhaena literally pushes him first, then he pushes back. The baela punches him in the face, he punches her back. The 4 of them jump him and start kicking punching him, he picks up a rock to defend himself. You can also see that he lowers the rock and is about let luke go until jace pulls a knife.
If the valeryon kids didn't confront him over vhagar and attack him there would've never been a fight.
Alicent.
Aemond was attacked by 4 kids. The other kids started first. Aemond didn't steal the dragon. The dragon chooses it's rider. Aemond is a bullied boy.
Rhaenyra wanted to torture Aemond after he lost an eye.
The laws favor Aegon II to be king. King Viserys and Rhaenyra stole birthright.
A illegitimate can't maim a crowned prince. Luke should executed. Rhaenyra committed treason.

In general? Rhaenyra.
Neither of them was right. But Rhaenyra calling Alicent out for her bullshit was pure gold.
Alicent is a spiteful bitch and I kinda live for it in the same way that I lived for Cersei in the original (though Cersei was far more compelling to me).
Rhaenyra is reckless and arrogant but she’s still a better person than Alicent, and I like the idea of binning tradition to shape up a shitty status quo, so I choose her.
Rhaenyra apologists always amuse me, especially when they have the audacity to claim Rhaenyra as a better person given she was fine with the murder plot involving a random innocent man. Alicent is automatically better because she hasn’t done that.
That’s in the show though, book versions of both are one-dimensional and Alicent is just the evil step-mother character.
On the subject of Alicent going for Luke, yes that’s bad but people don’t look at the full sub-text of the scene, Viserys straight up did not care that his son got mutilated, that along with other justified frustrations caused Alicent to snap, it isn’t justifiable but it’s understandable.
Can someone please explain why Alicent doing that is more evil than Rhaenyra wanting her own mutilated brother tortured over her perpetuated lie? This double standard and willfull blindness is crazy. We get it, Rhaenyra is cool because she goes against the system but people are acting like she’s done nothing wrong. Objectively looking at all of their actions, you’d have to perform some impressive mental gymnastics to conclude she’s a better person than Alicent.
For those who don’t know- “Sharply questioned” in lore is code for torture.
@socajunkie: Alicent was ok with Larys burning Mysaria's building and everyone there, she didn't punish Cole for killing Lord Busbury, instead she made him the commander of the Kingsguard, and, in my opinion, the blood of all the loyal lords who refused to break their oaths in King's Landing and were excuted because of it is on Alicent. She also endangered Rhaenyra's children twice, once when she told everyone they're bastards, and the other when she usurped Rhaenyra's throne. She also covers for her son's crimes.
Neither one of them is innocent. They're both murderers, but Rhaenyra and her entire side are on the defense. Alicent and her entire side are not.
@galaxium: Literally none of that is worse than wanting to torture your already mutilated brother combined with everything else.
@socajunkie: From Rhaenyra's point of view, she was defending her kids who could be killed (as was stated in episode 6 by Lyonel Strong) if they were proven to be bastards. Rhaenyra and all her half siblings clearly don't care about each other. They're just Alicent's kids to her, not her siblings. And thats largely Alicent's fault by the way. She is the one who created enmity between Rhaenyra and the kids.
@galaxium: You know it’s quite disturbing to defend wanting to torture your brother because they didn’t love each other or weren’t close.
On the topic of the bastards themselves, the solution for the Laenor being gay problem (Don’t take that out of context lol) was to just have kids with someone who looked like him then bang Harwin as much as she liked.
@socajunkie: I'm not defending anyone. That's why I said "from Rhaenyra's point of view"
Book Alicent is a saint who literally does nothing wrong nor commits any crimes until way after the war after she went mad, when she asks Jaehaera to kill Aegon. Still nothing came out of it.
Rhaenyra is a murderous homophobic and racist bitch.
@socajunkie: Evil step-mother? Tell me what are her crimes again? Saying "Mayhapa the whore will die in childbirth" according to Mushroom who was in Dragonstone?
Has she murdered anyone?
Hurt anyone?
Committed any crimes? Nothing, until way after the war when she went mad and asked Jaehaera to kill Aegon ( which ended up not happening obviously ).
Meanwhile Rhaenyra executed Vaemond for speaking the truth and fed him to her dragon.
Very likely killed Laenor to marry Daemon.
Put a bounty on Maelor, a toddler, and laughed when they showed her his head.
Did nothing after Blood and Cheese meaning she at least supported what happened, a toddler executed in front of his mother who was made to choose which kid she wanted killed otherwise both would get r****.
According to Mushroom she had Helaena and Alicent gang-***** in brothels and Mushroom was in Kingslanding at the time.
Called Laenor a p*** due to her homophobic views.
Used racist slurs to Nettles who was black, then gave orders to have her executed despite she being innocent and loyal.
Tortured, gelded and blinded Tyland.
Threw Corlys - an old man - in a black cell to rotten after giving the orders to torture his son over being a bastard, despite being innocent and loyal.
Taxed and starved King's Landing to the oblivion.
Denied the Crownlands ladies the same rights as her and told they couldn't be heirs because they had younger brothers and she was the only exception.
Anyway the woman is a monster, even pretending Alicent was anywhere near as bad as her was absurd.
@laiks stake: I agreed with Rhaenyra being worse in the first place lol
When I say ‘Evil step-mother’ I mean the e general approach and tone of the character. Mushroom’s takes are probably the most unreliable given he likes to spice things up wherever he can- often in a sexual nature. However the other perspectives agreed upon Alicent just in general being a bit bitchy.
Rhaenyra wanted to torture her brother after he lost an eye. Rhaenyra confirmed those children are illegitimate. If you threaten, maim more silence. It must be true. If didn't care or pay attention.
Daemon's Daughters, and The Strong Boys instigated the fight. The kids treat Aemond as an outsider, because he isn't a true Valyrian. Rhaenyra, King Viserys, and Daemon are irresponsible parents.
Rhaenyra confirmed those children are illegitimate, and that Rhaenyra would have them executed if comes to power. Otto Hightower was right.
