Welcome back to 10 Comics to Buy This Week. As you're probably well aware, there are a metric crap-ton of comic books hitting shelves every single week. And for the common consumer, it's financially impossible to pick up everything. That's where this column steps in like your superhero savior, drawing your attention to 10 books worth your hard-earned dollars during any given week.
We not only going to spotlight tights and capes books, but also some indie titles off the beaten path, which, if all goes well, will broaden your reading horizons.
Adventure Time #2
Kaboom! continues their adaptation of the popular Cartoon Network series this week with Adventure Time #2. Follow along with Finn, Jake and the rest of the gang on another all-new adventure through the land of Ooo (not a typo).
If you like your comics lighthearted and fun, Adventure Time is a great fallback. A lot of us might be adults, but come on, we're all kids at heart. Therefore, Adventure Time should warm the heart of even Scrooge McDuck himself.
Batman and Robin #7
It's finally time for Batman to confront Nobody for all the marbles. Bruce has stumbled upon Nobody's lair and must take action in order to protect his son, Damian.
Now that father-son story time is over, we expect Batman and Robin #7 to be a no-holds-barred throwdown between the forces of good (Batman) and not so good (Nobody). And how will Damian factor into this duel of fates? We aren't sure, but we're damn excited to find out.
Conan the Barbarian #2
The second issue of Brian Wood's Conan the Barbarian story drops this week, featuring Conan and the Pirate Queen coming to blows in a battle to the death.
The first issue of Wood's run was rather solid, and that's coming from a complete Conan newbie. If Wood can continue his dynamite scripting, and artist Becky Cloonan can continue her dynamic penciling, then I see no reason why this second issue won't be satisfactory.
Fantastic Four #604
It's the final chapter of the epic "Forever" storyline. This whole story has felt like an event in and of itself. Jonathan Hickman has been killing it on this series and we can't wait to see how this three-year-in-the-making story wraps up. It must be huge because all Marvel is saying about it in their solicits is that it's epic. Oh, and it's over-sized to boot!
Green Lantern #7
Do my eyes deceive me? Are we finally learning some meaty background details on the Indigo Tribe? It appears as though we are!
Geoff Johns and Dough Mahnke kick off "The Secret of the Indigo Tribe" with this week's Green Lantern #7. Hal Jordan and Sinestro set off to investigate a crime that leads them right to the home world of the Indigo Tribe, and what they find there will apparently charge their outlook on Lantern lore, if DC's solicitations are too be believed. Prepare thy self for revelations!
Queen Crab HC
Take a look at that cover image to the right and tell me you aren't at least a little bit intrigued by Jimmy Palmiotti and Artiz Eiguren's new original graphic novel from Image?
Queen Crab tells the story of a girl who lives a boring ol' life until the night of her wedding, where her husband attempts to murder her. Twist! And that's just the start of things to come.
Saga #1
If I had it my way, this week's entire guide would be Saga repasted ten times. I can tell you for a fact that I'll be whispering "Saaaaggaaaa" the entire time I'm driving to my local shop on Wednesday. And you know what, it's completely justified. Brian K. Vaughan's return to comics is something worth screaming from the mountain tops. But I digress.
Saga tells the, ahem, saga of a loving couple trying to raise their child amidst a never-ending galactic war. If the setup doesn't suck you in, maybe the first issue's page count and price will -- Saga #1 will sell for $2.99 with 44 pages of story without a single ad. Everyone here at ComicVine is expecting great things from this series and we fully believe Vaughan and artist Fiona Staples have the gusto to knock this out of the park.
Scarlet Spider #3
Chris Yost and artist Ryan Stegman continue the adventures of the Marvel universe's new Scarlet Spider. In this month's installment, Kaine learns that not everyone is happy to have a hero in Houston. Additionally, now that the Scarlet Spider has rooted himself in town, the super criminal community starts to make their presence known. You know that old song and dance; if there's a hero there has to be a villain (or two, or three…).
Thief of Thieves #2
If we're being completely honest, the first issue of Thief of Thieves didn't blow us away. With that said, however, we're still game for whatever Robert Kirkman and Shawn Martinbrough has to throw at us.
After the conclusion of issue #1, Conrad has turned his back on his old life as Redmond, an international master criminal. Now he's trying to put the pieces of his life back together. But is this too little too late for his wife and son? We'll find out in Thief of Thieves #2.
Wolverine and the X-Men #7
One of Marvel's best new series continues this week. Wolverine and the X-Men has been a refreshingly fun take on the adventures of the house that Xavier built (now run by headmaster Wolverine!).
With issue #7, we've got Kitty about to burst due to a Brood infestation, Wolverine and Quentin caught off-world after a gambling scheme gone awry, and Kid Gladiator getting lessons from a new teacher -- the Brood legion! To date, this series has been chalk full of off-the-wall concepts that provide equal parts laughter and action. If you haven't been reading Wolverine and the X-Men, do yourself a favor and correct that mistake immediately.
