John Slayer was a creature of the night and a mercenary-for-hire. He was hired by the Yakuza who wanted him to clean up the streets of Los Angeles which were over-run by crazy gangs, masked and mischief-minded towards a brand of anarchism that had no respect for traditional codes of gang-world loyalty. John Slayer was a brooding man with a mysterious and unsavoury past, but what was certain was that he was handy with a machete and a pistol. He started calling himself the Dark Knight.

Slayer infiltrated the labyrinth of the LA gangs posing a serious threat to the sanity and control held by the Yakuza which was already sufficiently violent and criminal, which did not interest the Dark Knight who was simply hired to complete the nefarious task. Slayer had to specifically deal with three rival gangs --- the Red Rabbits, the Gay Leprechauns, and the Screaming Maidens.

The Red Rabbits were a predominantly Latino gang run by a ruthless leader who called himself the Laser. This gang carried out kamikaze missions raiding supermarkets, post offices, and fast food joints and leaving rabbit dolls coated in animal blood at the raid-sites. The Red Rabbits were out to prove that the LAPD was useless, and their bravado unnerved the Yakuza which was up until now respected to create profitable alliances with the police and preserve relative order in the underworld.

The Gay Leprechauns were a gang of Caucasian males who were all college students. Members of this gang always wore plastic leprechaun masks and carried mace. The Gay Leprechauns would mace people on Halloween Eve who seemed to be loitering. They targeted transients, believing themselves to be vigilantes. The Yakuza did not like them, because they created an aura of anarchy.

Finally, the Screaming Maidens were surprisingly a gang of all females, aged 20-30, mostly Caucasian. The Screaming Maidens would dress up as prostitutes and steal money from their customers/patrons in the odd late hours of the LA evenings. The Yakuza did not like them, because they developed the reputation of being Oliver Twist-stylized pickpockets which undermined the Yakuza's authority over the LA night-life heartbeat.

The Dark Knight (John Slayer) befriended Laser and one of the leaders of the Screaming Maidens and convinced them to help him hunt down members of the Gay Leprechauns every Halloween as a gesture of pure conviction. Laser liked the plan, because the Red Rabbits would have more power during Halloween, and the Screaming Maidens liked his plan, because it afforded them the opportunity to mess with male college students (and steal money from them!).

The Dark Knight also befriended the leader of the Gay Leprechauns and convinced him that Laser and the Screaming Maidens were working together in an elaborate prostitution-ring which could be undone on Halloween Eve. Slayer suggested that members of the Gay Leprechauns look specifically for Latino men on Halloween Eve and harass them, especially if they were loitering and then spread street rumors that the Red Rabbits could not protect the general Latino male population from random criminals (this would also affect the targeting reputation of the Screaming Maidens!).

Slayer's plans were working. The three gangs were working against each other and coming undone without even realizing it. No one suspected that the Dark Knight (John Slayer) was working with each gang and had infiltrated them to create these betrayal schemes. Within three years, the Yakuza was back on top, and their power was not questioned as heavily, and Slayer was paid handsomely.

Slayer had secretly fallen in love with one of the members of the Screaming Maidens and had plans to ask her to leave LA with him. He was going to tell her everything once they had escaped all this gang-life madness. The girl's name was Roxanne, and she was everything Slayer wanted.

The Yakuza surprised Slayer by hiring to do one more task before he left LA --- kill Roxanne. It turned out that Roxanne had betrayed and stole money from one of the top-level members of the Yakuza about four years earlier. The Dark Knight (John Slayer) accepted the job but quickly started developing a plan to enable Roxanne to escape with him. Slayer told Roxanne everything and the two picked up a random prostitute, killed her, burned her body, and then Slayer delivered the poor dead girl to the Yakuza, claiming it was Roxanne.

Slayer and Roxanne got away and never looked back. They moved to British Columbia and purchased a nice house with the money Slayer had earned from the Yakuza work. When Roxanne asked him if he regretted all the things he had to do to earn the money and escape with her, he told her that the life of a mercenary was never cool.

Hmm interesting, would perhaps rename the Caucasian group though. The story seems sound, hopefully we'll see this written out in full as a series, if not it's still a good read. If this does become a series make sure to '@' me, because I definitely want to see more of this in the future

The Edinburgh Deed

Here's a slight tinkering of this story theme, since ImpurestCheese suggested I should think about branching out or developing these ideas (at least for myself!).

====

Slayer and Roxanne moved to Scotland where they settled down in a nice cottage. Roxanne managed a dairy farm, and Slayer became a prominent local merchant under the pseudonym John Rich. Rich/Slayer became a fixture in the local citizen's government in the Scottish village where Roxanne managed the dairy farm. Everything was going well.

In a nearby Scottish city neighboring Edinburgh, a certain profiteer and robber-baron named Malachi was ominously rising to social power as a ruthless leader of an opium-smuggling operation. Malachi was supposedly the descendant of Mordred, the adversary of the fabled English kingdom of Camelot, and like Mordred, Malachi had a taste for bravado and brutishness. Malachi had a dream to distribute opium pellets taped to the inside of Poland Spring plastic water bottles all over Scotland. Within three years of operations and management, Malachi's troops achieved this dream. Everyone joked about 'Malachi's rejuvenating waters.'

Meanwhile, Rich/Slayer and Roxanne were prosperous and Roxanne's dairy farm was doing very well. Rich himself traded in textiles and fineries and his partners included businessman from Spain, Australia, and Canada. Rich had become something of a Scotland legend, and he was thrilled to be succeeding under his false pseudonym, leaving a life of gang warfare and mercenary ethics behind him and enjoying the sunlight of success with his wife Roxanne.

A special meeting was called in Rich's Scottish province, and Rich was requested to attend. At the meeting, elders and social leaders of note discussed the troubling dominion of the opium kingpin Malachi and if anything could be done to preserve the dignity and civics of Scotland and the fair practices of Scots liberally selling, buying, and drinking Malachi's special brand of Poland Spring opium-water. Rich was requested to spear-head this mission. Rich was very reluctant, thinking this quest would lure him back into a life of daredevil behavior and unwanted conflict (or even war). However, Rich also realized he was the most equipped to handle this task so he accepted the mission.

Rich left Roxanne in the care of some trusted friends and traveled to Edinburgh where Malachi had already established an ominous opium kingdom of extortion, organized crime, and political corruption. Malachi's 'gang' was called Rose Red. Rich came with allies from his province, self-appointed 'squires' for this daunting task. Rich had his squires, whom he named the Scotty Sentinels, distribute boxed wine to citizens of Edinburgh at greatly reduced prices every weekend. The Scotty Sentinels became popular within a year, and their cheap but zesty boxed wine became as noteworthy as Malachi's opium-water. On the next Halloween Eve, Rich and the Scotty Sentinels fashioned reconstructed water-pistols fitted with internal heat-resistant metal tubing and carried thermoses filled with very hot water which they used as ammo. Their plan was to walk around wearing masks and terrorize people by spraying hot water with their water-pistols while screaming, "We work for Malachi and Rose Red!" The scheme worked, and the people's confidence in Malachi and political fear of Rose Red miraculously diminished. Rich/Slayer returned to his wife and retired. In his retirement, Slayer enjoyed reading Green Arrow comic books.

@impurestcheese: Well, that was another edition, "The Edinburgh Deed," the type you suggested had storyboarding potential! Let me know what you think.

@Abishai100: Wait neighbouring city? Do you mean Glasgow? Or maybe Livingston or St Andrews?
