Are plain designs like Silver Surfer and Dr. Manhattan protected from copyright?
Lets say I wanted to make a light blue or an all white character that would look similar to Dr. Manhattan/Silver Surfer. Would I be allowed to do so without infringing?

As long as the character isn't on a surfboard and doesn't have a symbol for hydrogen on his head then you should be fine.
This should be in another forum. Considering it's talking about character design, probably Artist Show-Off.
