CHAPTER 1: CAPTAIN OF A NEW ERA

YEAR 1: AMERICAN DARKNESS

The year is 2019, and the American idealism and moral values have achieved a great degree of seperation from the 1940's, which seems like the time of yester-year was more than a lifetime ago for one man trying to hold a country up by his broad shoulders. Marching alone to an old and weathered drum which only he seems to know the sound of, Captain America, to the world of now, he's seen as a near perfect man of moral high ground and impeccable muscle structure, but to those who are close with this hero of heroes know differently...

This is the story of that man, and the journey he takes to protect what may already be lost unto him.

CHAPTER 1: CAPTAIN OF A NEW ERA

CHAPTER 1: AMERICAN DARKNESS

Part 1 Of 5

IN THE DISTANT FUTURE- 10 YEARS FROM NOW

A FEW MILES INTO INTERNATIONAL WATERS OFF THE EASTERN COAST OF NORTH AMERICA

"Please state your name for the record,"

"My name is Steven Rogers, ma'am,"

As the lighting flickers to life, our story begins in an interrogation room with a camera on a tripod set up to watch the following interaction between one Steven Rogers and the intimidating yet lovely Victoria Hand. Up in one corner is another camera with the standard red light meaning it was recording everything that was happening between the two of them, and where Steven was sitting calm and collectively polite Victoria was on the edge of her seat like she was fishing and about ready to catch the big one.

"Steven Rogers, an hour ago you were arrested for the apparent murder of The President. Do you understand the gravity of the situation?"

"Yes ma'am I do,"

Steven spoke with confidence and without missing a beat, he moved his hands to rest them on the metal slab of a table, revealing some rather thick looking handcuffs wrapped around his wrists and chained to the table. Victoria Hand rested a large and chunky manila folder before him and started to open it, the first thing to greet their eyes was a grisly photo of beaten and bloodied to a pulp photo of President Norman Osborne laying on the ground in a pool of blood that eminated from his severed throat.

"Please, Mr. Rogers state for the record of what you see before you,"

Silence for a few seconds as Steven considered his options on the matter, he glanced with his sky blue eyes towards the door that led into a hallway where a sea of reporters were ready to eat at his story like hungry sharks. He could see the headlines now: "Ex-American Superhero turned American Assassin" or "Steven Rogers: Captain America No More!".

"Ms Hand, may I see a pen and paper?" Steven asked without losing an inflection of politeness in his steely authoritative voice, Victoria nodded curtley. Her dark and naturally maroon colored hair swayed like a curtain for the briefest of moments as she handed him a pad, unsure if he was about to confess, or what she didn't know. She glanced through her silver half framed reader glasses at the two way mirror where a couple of Secret Service agents were watching intently, and a few members of the Raft Guard units as well.

In only a second, everything was about to go to Help in a Hand Grenade as Steven returned the piece of paper to Ms. Victoria Hand, one of the Ex-President Norman Osborne's most efficient and most trusted, and the now dead body laying in it's own pool of blood in an Oval Office hardly trusted a soul. On the piece of paper was just a single, perfectly written cursive word...

Hail

Victoria looked up from the note just as the emergency lights turned on, giving the room a dark red glow. She looked up at Steven who kept his suave, yet respectful facial expression. "Steven-" she started to ask, but then gunfire erupted down the hall and the door opened up quickly as one of the secret service agents busted through, hand on his sidearm.

"Ma'am, we need to get you and the suspect out of here,"

"Steve, what did you do?" She asked, her steely calm voice starting to become alarmed as the Raft Guards were next to come through the doorway, decked out head to toe heavy power dampening armor and they carried pretty big guns that could destabilize the villainous Rhino at full speed. Then another shock to Victoria's system as the gunshots got closer and louder, her all business-like attitude started to come apart. As the Secret Service started to uncuff Steve, the cuffs fell with a loud clang against the metallic table and then two more shots were fired, and The Secret Service agents dropped to the floor, their heads nowhere to be seen on their bodies revealing the Raft Guards to be double agents.

One of them started to train their weapon on Victoria, but Steven stopped him before any harm could be instigated. "Hail HYDRA, gentlemen," Steven declared with a HYDRA salute, his left arm ending in a fist over his heart, "Victoria Hand," Steven said without losing eye contact he reached for the service weapon of each decorated military officer, "Welcome to The New World Order," he said and offered a powerful hand to the woman in distress.

Outside of the steel reinforced walls of the interrogation room, many of the cell doors shuttered open, letting the inmates wander out into the grated walkways like arteries of water opening up into a bigger body of water. Waiting for them on the walkways were HYDRA soldiers decked out in green and yellow body armor waiting to welcome their new bretheren into the fold...

CHAPTER 1: CAPTAIN OF A NEW ERA

CHAPTER 1: AMERICAN DARKNESS

Part 2 Of 5

1940 New York City

We fade into our story with an overhead shot of a teenaged Steven Rogers waking up in a less than ideal bedroom for a young man in this or any decade, the walls had holes in them from drunken young men who of whom there seemed to be an endless supply visiting his sickly mother. His bedding was no more than a cot set up in the corner of the small room so he could watch the door in fear of one of these men barging in like his absent drunkard of a father. We fade out as young Steven starts to wake up to the sounds of adulterous moaning sounds, something he's become all too familiar with, so he got up and unfortunately what could pass for a showering system for him and his mother wasn't working, so he got dressed in silence save for the moaning coming from his mother's room next door.

10 YEARS FROM NOW

THE RAFT

"I know you think that this wrong of me, that i'm a traitor to everything and everyone," Steven spoke softly to the captured Victoria Hand as they were escorted by HYDRA soldiers down a dark corridor after the power was cut from the facility. "Who knows, you may be right."

"Only a maybe?" Victoria scoffed, as they turned a corner and headed toward the mess hall, "what happened to man who believed in the American Dream?"

"See that's the thing," Steven said with a cold, determined tone of voice as he pushed open a set of double doors to enter the mess hall, revealing a crowd of HYDRA soldiers, including a few of whom holding the inmates on their knees, weapons to their heads, "even dreams come to an end, i'm just waking everybody up."

1940

Steven walked out of the run down apartment complex with his hands in the pockets of his ratty and dirty overalls and started on his way to work as a newsboy, standing on a street corner yelling his lungs into submission about the dark and terrible things going on not just at home but also across the ocean in the european theatre. As he started to cross the poorly paved road, he pulled out a crumbled up leaflet from his pocket that he had picked up the other day from a shop window that caught his eye in an excited fashion. On it, the letter read:

FOR THOSE OF WHOM THAT ARE OF A STRONG AND COMMANDING SPIRIT, BUT LACK A SENSE OF DIRECTION THEN LET US GUIDE YOU UPON YOUR JOURNEY.

THE RAFT

While Steven, Victoria, and his guardsmen were in the second floor viewing area, four female inmates dressed in nun attire were part of the group of hostages that Steven had his HYDRA buddies take from their cells and now they were here on their knees. Victoria looked both shocked and flabbergasted, losing her cold business-like demeanor. "Steven, tell me you aren't going to kill nuns in a prison made for supervillains?"

Steven looked at one of his guards who was carrying camera equipment and nodded for him to start setting up before turning his attention to Victoria Hand, whose resolve he had just cracked, "Miss Hand, i'm not a monster." he said in a calm and quiet tone of voice as he moved her to have a closer look at the hostages. "Those are Sisters Agony, Pleasure, and Dream. They used to be nuns before being recruited by The Red Skull in his personal vendetta against me, now they're nothing to me but pawns..."

"What's wrong with you?" Victoria asked as she tried to back away, but one of the guards was in her way,

"Nothing is wrong with me, Miss Hand, the question should be 'what's wrong with them?' They are the supervillains, they are what's making this world weak." Steven got all up in her face, looking like he was about to explode, "THEY. ARE. WEAK!" His perfectly parted golden blond hair fell down in front of his face and some of his anger spit hit her glasses hard enough to crack the lenses.

At the sound of his voice, and as if on cue the HYDRA soldiers pulled their triggers in cold unity and ended the lives of four women. The bodies of the four ex-nuns slumped over, blood pooling around their chests, and Victoria vomited at her feet upon seeing what was now burned into her brain. Steven helped her quietly up to her feet and smiled warmly at her despite the graphic scene below them, "it's okay," he reassured her and placed a hand on her shoulder, he was no longer the raving madman that had let loose a second ago; "it's okay, they were nothing but pawns. They don't matter, they bought into his lies, they followed his path."

Victoria wiped the gruel from her mouth and Steven helped her away from the window as the bodies below were dragged away, blood trails following in their wake, "what...what do you mean, 'his path'?" She asked, her voice almost as shaky as her knees in her pant suit.

"What?" Steven asked, almost pretending as if this was a normal situation, then he looked down at the blood trail, "Oh, wow. I'm sorry Victoria, the Green Skull is who I meant," then he added upon a look of complete confusion and disbelief sprawled across her face,

"The Green Skull is a clone of The Red Skull, but warped mentally further than that mad man. The Red Skull believes in genetic superiority and the HYDRA of old, while The Green Skull is mentally unstable clone of his who doesn't believe in any human superiority, instead he wants nothing more than to wipe humanity from the face of the Earth in order to save it from further destruction."

"So you are, or you aren't a member of HYDRA?"

"Oh I am," Steve said bluntly as the guards escorted the two of them down another hall, "in fact, the President was one of two last Heads of HYDRA and I snuffed him out like a weak little wax candle in the dead of night. Now? HYDRA belongs to me."
