October 8, 2010: 442nd Jump; Current Case: Search
Castle, the only team-mate I have so far, told me about his past. There's a reason he wears the skull on his chest, and I would too if my family was killed in front of me because I did my job. I'll admit I'm probably more sympathetic than I should be because I was also a cop at one point. Glad to see somethings never change though, and a good cops still exist.
And its better to know I'm not the only one willing to cross that thin line...
"You know where she is?" Jacob asked the stone faced ex-cop in the seat next to him.
"About as much as you," the other replied.
"So you've been looking for her this whole time?"
Castle said nothing but offered him a look that could kill someone with heart problems.
"What?"
"I'd've found her if you hadn't blundered your way int there," Castle growled.
"Excuse me," Jacob said raising his hands in defense. He dropped his hands to his face, "Look pull over I'll walk."
Castle's frown deepened, "You think I'm going to let you walk after a stunt like that?"
Jacob look him in the eye, "What the hell does that mean?"
"It means," Castle said,eyes on the road, "YOU fucked up my straight shot at getting the girl home to her mother."
"I fucked it up?" Jacob said subconsciously reaching for his Webley, "I fucked it up? You were waiting around some place you knew was a trap, Dip-Shit, and I don't know how things work around here, but that's a fuck up in my vocab."
"Take your hand off that gun," Castle demanded.
"Or else?" Jacob snapped.
Jacob didn't even have time to register the fist slamming against his nose, just the blood running down his face. Castle pressed his skull against the cool glass window with a large hand and a whole lot of muscle, "The only reason I won't kill you here and now is the fact that you have a wife and a kid on the way that you're trying to find. I know that hurt, I know that pain, its an emptying feeling and you're wondering what's the point off all this, right? But you must realize that you'll get to see them again."
Castle let Jacob go, "I don't get that chance, and I don't want to ruin it for your family."
Jacob fixed the bigger man with a dark look then fixed his hat, "I guess you're right."
"How old are you anyways?" Castle asked.
"23," Jacob said, "Youngest Dick on the force."
"You might not want to use that term," Castle said with a half smile.
"Why?"
"It doesn't mean detective anymore, kid."

The car slid to a halt outside an old wear house on the docks. Jacob hated the smell of fish and the cold snaps of salty sea air that the ocean brought, that's why he'd chosen New Stasis City as his stomping grounds. He scratched his chin only to learn he needed to shave.
"What city are we in?" Jacob asked.
Castle give him an odd look, "New York, why?"
Jacob scratched his head, "I dunno, its just, it has the same layout as New Stasis, but its so far from it."
"New Stasis?"
Jacob scratched his head, "Oh right, um, I believe it was once called Los Vegas."
"You really are from another universe aren't you?"
"Yes, sir," Jacob said, "And may I ask what we're doing here?"
Castle smiled and opened the door, "Gearing up."
