It was a rainy day today, so I didn't have anything better to do than write. I'm starting to have something of a meaningful story here with my girl. I hope you all agree, and don't hold it against me for bombing this forum today with massive posts x_X

I'm trying to improve my quality as I go as well. Had a couple ideas today that I think were kind of original as she spirals off against the canon grain further and further into the darkness of uniqueness ;)

Where we left off last, I had just brought in the name of the drug running gangster they are starting to investigate. A man named Petrov.

The Lighthouse Cafe is the new headquarters of the Bat Family while Knightfall is in effect, and Barbara has a bunker of sorts in its basement. Cassandra has taken steps to set up a Black Bat HQ of sorts in her gym, but she's in no hurry to advance beyond the comparatively humble police scanner and gunshop worthy safe. Barbara has little doubt that it'll raise a brow or two the next morning when the construction crews come in to renovate. That safe was to be their bunker, and it would double as a panic room.

The Lighthouse Bunker in its basement featured high speed internet via a hardline connection. Barbara could cut it at a moment's notice and it would be off the grid for all intents and purposes. She had multiple monitors, and while the computational power at her fingertips there wasn't anywhere near that of the Cray Machine in the Batcave, it wasn't slow either by any stretch.

She makes it known that Cassandra wasn't off the hook for the evening when they get there, understanding that she is technologically illiterate on top of functionally. The point was that she knew she wasn't stupid and could catch on if she had to. She all but sat on top of her as they went through police reports, Barbara using her dad's access to pull files on the drug runner they knew to be Petrov. Nightwing had been looking into him for a while, that was why they knew who to look at.

Cassie could make out a word here or there but really didn't like Barbara's insistence that she look at the information put before her. Frankly, it made her feel useless. This side of investigation was where she didn't just flounder, she all but drowned. Barbara made a show of patience, she could see her trying but she really had no clue how bad it bothered her until Cass threw up her hands in exasperation.

Barbara looks at her in surprise when Cass just stalks to a corner and crouches with her head between her knees. She was humiliated, and Barbara couldn't say a thing as she looks at her. Cass could take down anybody, she'd beaten down the worst filth that the Gotham streets could offer but when it came to reading and going through computers it was just too much. Barbara sighs, wondering how she was going catch her up. She definitely had her limits and buttons, and her illiteracy was a touchy subject being surrounded by tech wizzes like her and Tim Drake. Dick Grayson was no slouch himself behind a keyboard.

"I get it...I'm sorry. I'm just trying to help you, you can't do it all with a radio and interrogating, y'know?" Barbara says quietly, not wanting to upset her further.

Cassandra doesn't reply, her brows knitted as she stares at the ground in silence. She's visibly upset, but after several long moments of silence she finally says,"I just...can't. Too much."

Barbara shakes her head as she looks down, "Look...you need to read."

About that time, Tim Drake as Robin walks down the stairs with a tall, pale redhead in a black skirt and a batsymbol across her chest. Her features are halfway hidden by a mask that lenses out her eyes for added anonymity, all together Cass and Barbara both recognize the newest claimant to the bat mantle founded by Bruce Wayne: Batwoman. Also with the duo was Dick Grayson decked out in his blues and blacks as Nightwing.

Cass rose to her feet, bravely erasing the frustration that colored her moments earlier. Tim and Batwoman had already seen it but neither called attention to it. Barbara's brow knitted a little as she nodded, her gaze on the redhead lingering before she cleared her throat and said,"I guess the whole gang is here, we only need one more." She chuckled at that, not bothering to mention Jason Todd. She knew he'd been to see Bruce, and she was happy not to see him herself.

Dick nodded to the two of them, and Tim just cleared his throat a little while Batwoman disregarded Barbara with a gaze that suggests concern directed at Cass. Barbara didn't trust her, and was a little surprised that Dick and Tim did enough to bring her here. It wasn't just that she didn't trust her, she didn't like her and wasn't quite sure why.

Dick spoke for the rest of them when he stepped forward and said,"This is Batwoman, she's been helping us keep up with the drug problem you were talking about. Apparently they are a biker gang calling themselves..." Batwoman spoke up for herself at that point, cutting him off with her hands on her hips,"The Burning Skulls. They've a route from the Harbor District to a number of bike shops around the city, but they seem to work mostly out of a scrapyard ten minutes up the coast from the docks. You weren't wrong to be suspecting Penguin though, he sold them that scrapyard. He's regretted it since, apparently he's getting tired of them and has been trying to deal with them civilly. That isn't going to hold, with him or his men."

Dick was a little nonplussed at having been cut off, Barbara and Cassandra though were amused. Even Cassie knows how it can be to have someone speak for you when you are right there, though in her case she's usually grateful for it afterwards. She looked to Dick when he started to speak again.

"I'm thinking we start with a couple of their shops, pay them a visit and get an idea of what we're actually looking at before we move on that viper pit," Dick nods confidently at that course of action as he offers it. Barbara agrees with him, but Batwoman tilts her head a little as she makes her initial rebuttal.

"Why wait when we know exactly who we are going for?" She inquired with a visible knitting of her brow, she hadn't been in this game for very long and her experience was showing with this question.

"Because we need to understand who we are dealing with before just going in. We take his legs out from under him, maybe snatch up a middle man or two, then he has to start coming at us and he's frustrated. Or better yet, we draw the man himself out because he's impatient." Barbara nodded as she explained the rationale.

Tim chimed in at this point with,"Also, doing that we learn something about them before moving on him. We aren't just crippling his organization ahead of killing it, we're learning about the people running it and scooping some of his people off the street in the process. We just take him out, his people go to work for someone else. This way, they know that we know where they are and maybe they straighten up."

Cassie spoke up herself at that point as she asked the one question on her mind, her posture questioning,"Bruce?"

Barbara, understanding her meaning, answered it simply,"We may learn nothing if they aren't involved. Or we might find a direction to move in, but we can't stop making ourselves known."

Everyone was quiet there, even Batwoman as she wondered at their reaction to the simple question. She wasn't yet initiated into the family enough to warrant the knowledge of Batman's identity.

Barbara upnodded to the group then from her place at the desk. She clicked up a list from her terminal as she says,"So bikeshops first. There's one just up the street from their scrapyard, and I know offhand of another on King Street."

Batwoman chimed in then, relaxing her posture,"I'll take King Street, I know the place."

Robin and former Robin both fold their arms as the latter offers,"We'll take the other then."

Cassie glanced to Barbara at that, her expression typically stoic as Barbara says,"I guess good hunting then. There's at least three other bike shops around the city if this doesn't give us any pay dirt."

The group nodded to her almost unanimously at that. On the way out, both Batwoman and Tim steal a glance at Cassandra. They knew when they came down that something bothered her, but neither would intrude or pry. Especially the former, as Batwoman knew nothing of the awkward girl. Indeed, she wondered why she was down there and who she was even as she hurried out of the bunker.

The hunt was on.

@jamiewolfe7: Jeez I know nothing about Batman, there's a female version?! Can say the dialouge is looking a lot smoother than past issues so Kudos on that

@impurestcheese LoL she isn't really a female version beyond her name, imho. Kate Kane is a somewhat recent addition to DC so I don't blame anyone for having not heard of her, don't think she's even had a thousand issues yet (altogether across all titles, lol). Thanks for the props btw :) Look up pics of Batwoman and you'll see what I mean by her not really being a female version, per se. Her costume is red and black and has a weird Mardi Gras vibe to some of the portrayals of the face mask. She's sort of the butch-type looking lesbian outside of her costume (they made the big deal out of her sexuality on the onset, it was actually part of her debut advertisement. Even Rachel Maddow praised them on it in a blurb for her first issue). I think her in costume and out of costume contrast is hilarious. First time I've seen a superhero/vigilante that has a wig as part of their costume.

@jamiewolfe7: Oh so she and I have a lot of things in common, interesting to know. Also I believe Black Canary originally had a wig as part of her costume before she decided that it was easier to dye her hair blonde

@impurestcheese Kewl, didn't know that :) I've only ever seen pics of her in costume. Lil bro has embarrassed me lately about my DC knowledge, until fairly recently it was limited to Azrael and Batman's canon. He's been addicted to the Arrow TV show, where I keep up with Agents of SHIELD over here since we don't get the channel that Flash and Arrow come on. My real dig on Batwoman is that she seems so arbitrary. Her only crime related life tragedy is she was kicked out of the service for being lesbian, not a crime but definitely messed up no arguments. She meets Batman and decides to become a vigilante/crimefighter like him. Cool and all, but I personally take issue with her as a Bat character on background principle. Dick Grayson, Bruce Wayne, Cassandra Cain, Barbara Gordon, etc all have personal stakes in crime fighting. She doesn't, working her in there for fun but as a character I dislike that she's technically part of the Bat family.
