Many long-time fans of Marvel and Dc have posed the very interesting question: if the Marvel and Dc Universes merged, what would it look like, and who would make up the teams? That means which characters would make up the line-up of the Justice League, the Avengers, the Teen Titans, and so on.

Note: This is NOT an Amalgam Universe. All of the characters would stay themselves, the team line-ups would just be different.

Also, if anyone wants, short stories can be written around these new line ups, as well as how the two universe merged in the first place.

So, without further a-do, get imagining!

Hello, and good questions.

First I think we'd have to identify the purpose of having these teams around in this specific universe.

I could see the JLA working to defend and further the interests of the United States, while the Avengers could serve as heroes who manage global crises and protect against intergalactic threats.

With these objectives in mind, I think we might see things like Captain America serving on the JLA, as well as heroes with obligations in specific cities like Gotham, Hell's Kitchen, Metropolis, etc. We'd also see more powerful, stellar heroes like Martian Manhunter serving on the Avengers.

I am definitely interested in writing a piece or two for this if you're willing to develop some basic ideas further. Let me know!

@rushnoir: Thanks. I like your idea about the JLA defending just the United States, where as a team such as the Avengers act on a more global level. My idea was that the JLA would just be the Justice League, and they would deal with the most powerful threats, since in the comics their ranks are mostly consistent of god-like beings. I had completely forgotten that they used to be called the Justice League of AMERICA (I honestly cannot believe I forgot that), and now that I have heard your idea, I think I do like it better.

I also really like your idea about the Avengers facing off against world-wide/intergalactic threats. Maybe they could be consisted of the most powerful characters (Hulk, Scarlet Witch, Flash, Martian Manhunter, possibly Superman, if he isn't best suited for the patriotic JLA), while the JLA would consist of lesser powerful characters focused on, as you said, defending and furthering the ideals of America.

Also, I agree that characters with the specific goal of defending a certain area/city (Batman to Gotham, Daredevil to Hell's Kitchen) working on the JLA to ensure their specific area stays safe.

I personally think those ideas work pretty well, and I would be very interested to read the stories you would have in mind for them. Also, I am struggling to think how the the Fantastic Four would fit into this merged universe, since they typically have a set in stone roster, so if you have any ideas for that, I would certainly like to hear them.

The first thing that comes to mind for the Fantastic Four is that they could be a science-based research and investigation team. This can take them to vast underwater depths, the far reaches of space, in between dimensions and much more. It would even allow their roster to be flexible at points, so they can recruit certain DC "specialists" to help them with their particular missions.

What do you imagine villain interactions might be like? There are some pretty nasty team-ups that could arise, even business ventures between organized crime groups.

Should we start discussing who wants to write what? Usually writers begin by "claiming" characters they are interested in or forming a team roster for their "book."

@rushnoir: Good idea for the Fantastic Four. I think it could be cool for the Fantastic Four to team up with other science based DC characters, such as Ray Palmer, Ted Kord, or Martin Stein.

I think that there would be a mixture of team-ups/infighting within the villains. I could see characters such as Norman Osborne possibly teaming up with Lex Luthor. Or if we really want to have fun, go wild and have villains that don't necessarily make sense teaming up work together for a common goal against certain heroes (i.e. Reverse Flash and Doctor Doom, or Ultron and Brainiac) . On the opposite side of that, I would imagine Wilson Fisk and Black Mask would likely be at each other's throats, which could create an interesting story as well.

I think people "claiming" certain stories to write sounds good. I am honestly not a very good writer myself, I would personally prefer to write smaller stories, and leave the bigger ones like JLA and Avengers to better writers. You can have your pick of what story to write, the line-up of the team, and the villain (or villains) they go up against.

Avatar image for thefortress

@rushnoir: I was thinking I could probably write a smaller scale story centered around the Outlaws. I am not sure what the threat they would go up against is yet, but the team would consist of: Red Hood, X-23, and Deathstroke. I am thinking maybe something happens to the three of them related to some major crime lord (possibly Wilson Fisk or Black Mask, I am not sure yet), and that is what causes them to reluctantly team up. They would be a bit more on the anti-hero/morally ambiguous side, but I think this could work well as a smaller scale story for a relatively new writer like myself.

Again, feel free to choose whatever and whoever you want, and to take the story/characters wherever you want. It is still so early on that you basically have free reign over everything.

Note: None of the ideas I have for my own story is set in stone yet. I may end up changing everything about my Outlaws idea.

I like that you mentioned Ultron and Brainiac. I can't get the idea out of my head that they are constantly trying to hack each other, using the world's cybernetic capabilities to transmit viruses, regularly crashing the internet globally and causing all sorts of chaos! A team-up though...I'm curious to hear if you have more thoughts on that.

Sounds good, I will do some brainstorming and pitch you an idea for my story in the next day or two.

Okay so here's my pitch.

DC/Marvel's "Justice League of America" by rushnoir

Storyline currently untitled. The newly-formed JLA embarks on a pair of missions, which will guide them into the crosshairs of a vicious rival team: the Injustice League.

I don't want to give too much away, but here are the characters I'd like to use.

***

JLA

Captain America - Team leader, tactician

Batman - CQB, investigator, team funding

Cyborg - Intelligence and technology

Power Girl - Powerhouse

She-Hulk - Powerhouse, team legal representation

Flash - Speedster

Storm - Training instructor, human-mutant ambassador

***

Injustice League

Lex Luthor

Kang the Conqueror

Mr. Freeze

Abomination

Giganta

Sabretooth

Taskmaster

***

The only other characters I'd like to use are Killer Croc and Tombstone, who will be appearing in the story early on. I don't have long-term uses for these characters, so they will become "free agents" after this initial story is completed.

What do you think @thefortress? I've kinda already gotten started, but let me know if there's anything that might contradict what you're going for. I can make the necessary changes.

Talk to you soon.

Avatar image for thefortress
#15 Posted by TheFortress (72 posts) - - Show Bio

@rushnoir: I really like the line-ups for both teams. I am particularly interested in the fact that Kang the Conqueror is on the Injustice League. I think that could make for a really interesting story.

As for whether it contradicts anything I already have in mind, simply put, it does not. I am currently in the early "ideas" stage of a small-scale Outlaws story. I didn't have any specific ideas for this before pitching this idea here, so I don't have any problem with other writers doing what they want with the concept.

I really like what you are going with so far, and I can't wait to see where it goes.

Thanks very much! Your concept sounds quite interesting as well, and I can't wait to hear more about it. I'll update you on my story progress in the next day or two.

@rushnoir: Quick question. In your story, how do you think the characters will go about the whole "worlds recently merged" type thing. I figured only a few people would know that the worlds used to be separate, and now they are one in the same, while the public, as well as a majority of the heroes and villains think this is how is has always been. Just trying to see how you are doing it, so that there are no continuity errors between the stories. Thanks.

I haven't come to any conclusions regarding that bit of backstory since we haven't really discussed it.

As far as my story is concerned, I'm focusing on the present state of affairs mostly, as opposed to the world's origin.

The notion that only a select few are aware of a time before the merging could lead to some potentially intriguing developments, but what would those developments be exactly? I like the idea overall, I just think we could go further with it.

I think for the purpose of my story I'm planning on running with the assumption that most (if not all) of the characters I'm using are unaware.

Since you may be including Deadpool in your lineup I wonder if he'll be aware of this origin...is he going to be breaking the fanfiction fourth wall? Hehe.

Avatar image for thefortress
#20 Posted by TheFortress (72 posts) - - Show Bio

@rushnoir: Yeah. I haven't really put much thought into this world's origin either. I think it could just be easy if most people are unaware of what the worlds used to be, just to avoid any possible confusion, at least until in the future, when maybe someone writes about how the world merged.

I am actually using Deathstroke in my story, not Deadpool. Sorry. Haha. That could be a cool (and funny) way to explain the origin of this world in the future though.

Quick update: my story is turning out to be a bit longer than I anticipated. I would say it's about 25-30% complete. Like I said, it will probably end up a bit long, but I think it should read fast. Almost done with the first of two extended action sequences. I will work on it this weekend and plan to give an update around Monday or Tuesday.

@rushnoir: Ok. Awesome. I am a much slower writer, so I am only working on one part at a time. I am currently finishing the prologue part of my story, so hopefully that will be out soon.

Also, whenever you release your story, could you include DCMU somewhere in the title to put some moniker unifying title around all of the stories in this Dc/Marvel Universe (DCMU stands for DC Marvel Universe). For example, DCMU: JLA #1, or something like that.

Thanks again, and I cannot wait to read your story!

Sure, I have no problem using the DCMU naming convention.

So if you haven't been reading the current punisher run, there's a new drug called emc that the punisher has been working to stop. Emc is a highly addictive drug that ca. Cause the user to have enhanced physical abilities, beyond human limits.... sound familiar? Anyway frank hears about a new batch of emc, that has been fused with an unknown, similar substance that greatly enhances the effects of the drug, both in terms of power and addictiveness. Frank has said enough is enough, and after a prolonged fight with some Spanish speaking thugs who are distributors of this new drug, takes a prisoner. Frank wants to cut the head off the snake of this operation, and tortures his captive into telling him where this compound is being manufactured. Frank is dumbfounded by the answer he's given, as he's never heard of the place before. Frank doesn't care though, as he packs his equipment and heads off to the Caribbean country known as Santa Prisca....

I have an idea of pitting darkseid and thanos against each other ina sort of cosmic odyssey, starlin-esq story following thanos, as he reflects on the state of this newly merged universe. Basically thanos would be observing and describing the events between the cosmic entities in his ship, when he is interrupted by a blip on the monitor of his ship. A new cosmic cube. As thanos strives to take a place in this new cosmic hierarchy, he sees this cube as an opportunity to do just that, and he teleports his ship to the new, fiery, hellish planet that it appears to be located on.... I see this as an opportunity to flesh out the cosmic side of you're new merged universe and the universal implications of a merged reality.

Quick update for everyone - Things are going well with my JLA story! I still have a massive action sequence to complete, and I think it might take a while. I'm hoping to have things wrapped up and ready by next weekend, though there's a chance it might take slightly longer than that... I will deliver an update mid-week regarding my progress.

@phillip33 Just so you know the opening of my story involves some bad guys who are amped up with a drug. It's not EMC, but it's not too far off, either. Just want to give you a heads up so you don't think you're being ripped off. Also, I've read a bit of that Punisher storyline and it's not bad! Huge Punisher fan here.

@phillip33: I really like both ideas you pitched, particularly the Thanos one. I think using him as a way to flesh out the Cosmic side of this new universe, and even possibly how it was merged in the first place is a really great idea. In DC they have metahumans, which are basically mutants without them being discriminated against, so if the characters are in the same world, then you could have metahuman DC characters basically be mutants and join the X-Men.

Avatar image for thefortress
#49 Posted by TheFortress (72 posts) - - Show Bio

@amazingfantasy15: That's a cool idea. I think that could be a really interesting story. What characters from DC do you think would join the X-Men?

Avatar image for amazingfantasy15
#50 Edited by AmazingFantasy15 (380 posts) - - Show Bio

@thefortress: I've been trying to find characters or iterations of characters born with a metagene, but there aren't as many as I thought. So far I've settled on Black Canary, who originally was orphaned and taken in by Wildcat who trained her how to fight. But here Wildcat's role is played by Wolverine, who had known her superhero mother, so Black Canary knew about him and, after being orphaned and discovering she's a mutant (with her Canary Cry) sought out Wolverine and convinced him to train/mentor her, wanting to join the X-Men.

Another one is Raven, just because her story with the Teen Titans fits with the X-Men. I could see her being chased by a mob who think she's a mutant, and the X-Men save her and take her in. Having nowhere to go and feeling safe in a school of superheroes, she pretended to be a mutant. They find her out but, understanding what its like to have nowhere to go, let her stay. Her birth name is Rachel (Rachel Roth when on Earth), so perhaps she's mentored by Black Canary, she perhaps seeing herself in Raven and wanting to be to Raven what Wolverine was to her, and, getting close, ends up using 'Raven' as her superhero name as its a black bird, like Black Canary. Her joining the X-Men as a point of view character could be the first story.

I also have a few DC villains who'd fit, namely Killer Croc, who could join the Brotherhood of evil mutants, and the first Queen Bee.

If you like the idea of the first story, of Raven being saved by the X-Men, and mentored by Black Canary, I could start writing the first story now.
