I mean initially when it was announced I guessed it would semi bomb in terms of $$$. Then Aquaman did a billion and Shazam started getting very good word of mouth so I figured it would prob do like $6-700m+. It just finished its second weekend though and only stands at $221m. In comparison I think CM was at about 3x that by then. Anyone else semi shocked at how weak its doing box office wise? Its also going have to deal with A4 coming out in two weeks so its doubtful it will have legs that last past then.
Sort of surprised at how Shazam is doing
No, don't care, it's doing good enough to warrant a sequel from WB. The film also didn't cost much to make and it's made double its production already.
I wouldn't count my chickens until they're hatched. With Avengers just around the corner its hard to say if it'll a reach a 700m figure.

Its going to struggle big time just to get to $350 or 400m. The only way it does that is if it still hasn't opened in China and does big money there.
@spambot: True.
Shazam dosnet deserve it
Aquaman gets 1 billion huh
Shazam in my opinion is a way better movie than Aquaman
Well, it was released between MCU first female superhero film and the film literally most were waiting for and was hyped a lot.
Budget was extremely low.
$100m isn't really extremely low for a solo movie. Its on the lower end but there's a lot you can do with $100m when you are using basically no name actors.
It's not a hit or a flop, its just sort of fine. I'm a little disappointed personally. Was hoping for a north of 500m. 300-350 is borderline.
It's a low budget and low grosser movie. Which is okay in a vacuum, but is that what WB wants DCEU to be? Low budget movies? I hope its not the route they take.
Although WW1984 and The Batman are certainly not gonna be low budget low grossing movies so i think were fine for now atleast.
Birds of Prey are probably closer to Shazam budget. But that movie doesnt need alot of CGI superhero stuff.
@spambot: It already opened in China... It bombed there...
@nitelite: Those movies had average reviews and were ok at best. Shazam was good and the word of mouth was great. What happened with all the People Who waited for "the real CAPTAIN MARVEL"?
@purpledeadragon: The budget was pretty low which may have been a massive factor.It didn't do good in China which is not a good sign for any superhero movie looking to rake in big numbers at the global box office.The movie was pretty good and most of the general audience liked it.The reason it didn't make as much as it should have was probably because it served as a filler to a lot of people imo.Shazam probably didn't interest the general audience who aren't comic book fans.As for the people who watched it,most of them liked it,enough for a sequel to be planned.There was not a lot of cgi as well,even though it could have been better visually.As I said it is a low budget movie which was probably the biggest reason for Shazam not making as much as expected.As for "the real captain marvel",only og comic book fans would know about that and not the general moviegoer.
@spambot: As far as I know Budget was $90 million
Putting it between Captain Marvel and Endgame was foolish. People were going to save their money for Endgame and CM being a month before Endgame brought hype which drowned out conversation about Shazam.

Its listed as $100m on box office mojo. That's only an estimate also. WB has been known to go over those and then you have marketing on top of that.
@spambot: Do you think it can get 400 millons?
@spambot: Do you think it can get 400 millons?
Probably not. I think $330m will be a struggle.
@spambot: In forbes it says $90 M.
