Captain Marvel/Shazam: Rebirth

What do you want for Captain Marvel/Shazam during DC Comic's Rebirth?

What change's or fixes would you want to happen?

Well, DC needs to just give him a damn book! During these last 5 years, DC has published books doomed to low sales and cancellation like Prez, Green Team and Vibe. But, they seem to have a problem with making a book about a classic superhero who people loved in the past and still can now.

Anyway, I'd like it if they went with a more goofy tone like Cap was in Young Justice. None of that surly Billy from the new52 JL backup story.

It'd be cool if when he got his Rebirth we get Billy's origin story juxtaposed with the Wizard Shazam's origin story. A lot of people are jumping into Rebirth and if Billy got the Wonder Woman treatment it'd be great. Rucka is really going for the definitive WW origin story. I'd like to see Shazam! get that especially because of the name change that went down in the beginning of the New 52.

Get him away from the Justice League with either his own book, or put him on the Justice Society/JSA book.....they can keep the updated look, but for the love of God bring back his classic powers (original S.H.A.Z.A.M. Gods)

Stick to the classics and use his other villains and support cast. Mr. Mind, Lady Blaze and Lord Satanus, IBAC, Mr. Mind, Captain Nazi. I dunno why DC is insistent on perpetuating the idea that Black Adam is his only antagonist. Revamp some of these guys a bit and introduce new ideas and themes and arcs. Explore other Pantheons and stuff.

And lastly, for Gods sake call him Captain Marvel in book. Sick of hearing Billy labeled as Shazam. Call it Powers of Shazam like the Ordway series but call him Cap. Marvel in the book. The Wizard is Shazam. Not Billy.

I don't know why DC calls him Shazam even. I mean even the movie is being titled by Shazam. 9/10 times when I say Captain Marvel, movie goers usually think I'm talking about Carol. I mean they don't even think of Mar-Vell either they just think "Oh Captain Marvel the chick from Marvel, but Shazam is Billy". Makes no sense

I like the name Shazam so all you people who don't like it are ok because your opinion is your own!!!!!!

On topic however. I'd love to see Shazam get more villains like Black Adam, or see a what if Story line where he is evil and tries his hand at taking over the world.

He won't be. Geoff doesn't even know who is writing Captain Marvel/Shazam's Rebirth book.

Ugh, I hope not. Wonder Woman has got to be the most boring comic I've read in recent memory. I think Shazam deserves better than that.

Because most people, unless they knew better, called him Shazam anyway, because it was the title of his book and because he said it at least semi-often enough. Just a case of going with the flow.

And dear Gods, don't bring back two versions of the same character. Lord knows once Geoff Johns gets his hands involved, that overrated hype-man will have Shazam will killed off quicker than you can say "Shazam!"

Probably. I never said my opinion was popular. People may be cool with slower storytelling to, so it probably works for a lot of people.

Not for me though. Maybe for someone who has time to fritter away, but not me.

I would go with BOTH names. How so? Billy IS Shazam, he has inherited the mantle of the wizard and has the same purpose and function. He's not a champion of Shazam, he IS Shazam. Black Adam, Sabbac, Ibac, Mr. Mind, refer to him as Shazam. His non-magical enemies and the general public refer to him as Captain Marvel. Before ANYONE says that's confusing? Four words for you.

"Superman, Kal-El, Clark Kent."

Superman is known by ALL of those and no one is confused. They can still logically market him as Shazam and push him as that.... But still keep the Captain Marvel name alive since? HE DESERVES IT!!! Considering he is the first and, all due respect to Captain Mar-Vell and Carol Danvers over at Marvel, the best.

Clark and Kal are his birth/adopted names. Very few people even call him Kal-El and only his closest friends and family call him Clark.

Superman is closer to a title, given for what he does. Same would apply to Marvel/Shazam.

Put it on Earth 5 to differentiate from the shambles that was New 52 Shazam. Basically continue the art style and tone of the Multiversity Thunderworld book. Call it Thunderworld or Whiz Comics to get Marvel Comics to shut up, call him Captain Marvel (or Captain Thunder in a worst case scenario) inside the book. Give us the classic Captain Marvel vibe, as that's what Rebirth is meant to be about. Putting it on Earth 5 gives it freedom of continuity but also encourages crossovers to cool new worlds that have only really been seen in previous Grant Morrison books.

Seriously if DC launched the new Shazam/ Captain Marvel comic on Earth 5 Thunder world, continuing the art style and direction of that world, and calling it Whiz comics, I can almost guarantee sales would be huge.

Please give out a Shazam Book I really want to read him.

Billy Batson belongs on the Titans roster! Not that he can't hang with JLA, Supes is simply too big a personality as their standout powerhouse. Drafting BB onto the classic squad (Nightwing, Flash II, Donna Troy, Tempest, Omen, Arsenal) he rounds out the cast nicely giving them a truly memorable shine, their "Big 7" as it were. I figure you can switch out Arsenal when the situation calls for bringing in a reserve member (Bumblebee, Herald, Gnarrk etc) depending on the mission. The way it goes, you've got a Field Commander/Recon in Nightwing, Speedster Wally, close-quarters Warrior Donna, your Undersea Specialist Tempest, capable Telepath Omen, Long-range Support by Arsenal and last but not least your MAGICAL TANK SHAZAM!!! How perfect. It's members check off all the boxes necessary for a stacked team even the League would envy.

To everyone who's complaining about the name change, as I understand it, Marvel now owns the name "Captain Marvel" so DC can't use it for the name of a character in an ongoing series.

I'm not sure, I think it's only for the name a serie.

Marvel doesn't own the name, only the title on front pages, other than that DC still has the rights to call him Captain Marvel within comics, they have done it both during Convengence and Thunderworld in last years.

DC should take a look at what made Multiversity Thunderworld great, and work from there.
