SUPERMAN AMERICAN ALIEN #4

(W) Max Landis (A) Jae Lee (CA) Ryan Sook

Clark travels to Metropolis for the Cerberus Summit, a rare meeting between three of the world's most prominent young chiefs of industry: Lex Luthor, Oliver Queen, and the enigmatic Bruce Wayne. Landing an exclusive interview with any of the three would all but guarantee Clark a prestigious internship with the Daily Planet...but Clark runs into some unexpected competition when he meets another college journalist named Lois Lane.

I want to read this so badly.

Been reading the issues at my local comic shop and in my opinion it's one of the best origins/elseworld's the character has ever had.

@figgs216: So far its a great modern retelling of Superman's life story. Landis really understands Clark something many writers have trouble with.

This series has been absolutely wonderful. Max's love for the character really comes through. If this keeps up, it may go down as one of my favorite Superman/Clark Kent stories ever.

This isn't an elseword's. It's New 52 Superman's origins.

@kid_jakeriv:

This is an Elseworlds. In the first issue we see young Clark flying but in the new 52 Clark couldn't fly until he became an adult.

Not liking the art... or that variant cover. Story sounds it should be interesting though.

Where did you read that? I've seen nothing stating this is new 52 orgin and as Superior_Nobody pointed out, there's contradictions with this and new 52 Superman.

@superior_nobody: @theexile285: Max Landis stated himself in a Newsarama interview. I don't have the link right now, but if you just Google you'll find it.

For a while I was wary about this mini-series, cause Landis, while passionate about Superman, tends to go over-the-top. Thankfully, that didn’t happen.

Nice concept and interesting modern origin story of young Clark Kent.

P.S. Unexpectedly even for myself, I like Jae Lee’s art very much.

@kid_jakeriv: here his parents are alive, in new 52 they're dead. Besides DC doesn't have balls to flat out replace something Morrison worked on.

@deathfalcon182: What are you talking about? They replace almost everything Morrison, Moore and all the other writers you can think of when they rebooted and at this point DC doesn't care about continuity.

Not finding anything that implies this series is canon.

It is not meant to be canon and these stories certainly don't feel like they'd be in continuity with anything. It doesn't mean these are Elseworld stories either. American Alien is about regular Clark Kent who will be regular Superman one day and perhaps we'll still see it happening (final issue?).

What Landis said a while ago is American Alien would be more about personality than secret identity and that's exactly what it is up to this point and that's why there isn't a connection to anything that's going on in the ongoing series.

American Alien are seven one-shots and each one picks a certain period of time in the life of Clark Kent showing how Clark is handling a particular situation. Nothing less, nothing more.
