So the "lets make the comics like the movies" virus is spreading to DC now, Uh?
It's impossible to know since we haven't seen anything about Aquaman in the DCCU.
But besides that, Aquaman, moreso than most DC characters, has gone under extreme changes numerous times as a character. From the classic version to hook hand, to water hand, to sword of Atlantis to modern to this. Change is a BIG theme in this character's history.
Also, I don't really see how this version matches the one picture we've seen of Jason Mamoa. There's literally nothing in common.
@master_thief: How could you possibly know if this is like the movie?
@holyserpent: That was meant to be a Justice League story
So this is after finding his mom, Hercules, etc? Or one of those wacky "stories will trump continuity" stories they touted?
The art is decent... but not on the level of Paul Pelletier or Ivan Reis. I can only hope the quality of the series, in terms of writing/story, hasn't suffered. Geoff Johns and Jeff Parker really made me enjoy Aquman & Mera.

Yes
@holyserpent: same here, but this looks promising
I've always liked the idea of retractable trident, mainly so could switch from hand to hand to weapon fighting easier, but the blade form is that sort of weird length of not quite feeling like a sword or a dagger, and the trident seems a bit generic.
I always thought one of Aquaman's problems was his colour scheme (despite it being made of two of my favourite colours) the orange just made him look like a goldfish, although the gold belt is a bit much but I willing to give the black and green colour scheme(with a bit of orange and gold) a try.
Seeing the sword transform to the spear remind me of the Thundercats for a second.We got shnnk,ch-chak,shkkt instead of Thunder,Thunder,Thunder, Thundercats Ho.
Aquaman is one of the few new 52 books what has not drop the ball for the new 52.
I felt a big Masters of the Universe vibe, myself. The thumbnail on the front page actually fooled me into thinking it was He Man for a second and then I mentally pulled a "By the power of Greyskull!" when his sword morphed in the preview.
Ah, the 80's how I miss you.
So the "lets make the comics like the movies" virus is spreading to DC now, Uh?
Nop, is the same virus the DCCU has.
The EDGY VIRUS!!!
@risingbean: Good times
@tensor: Indeed.
@master_thief: What from this makes you say that?

There's also the whole thing where the blade is a weird kind of shape, also is it just me or does the sword seem to completely change size in between panels? In the second to last page it looks like a sword (albeit a small one) but on the last page it's a little knife. The blade is only about twice the size of the handle whereas a sword will usually be about 4 or 5 times bigger than the handle at least. It's an idea I like but man is it executed weird.

Is it still happening?
@justthatkid: that's true but you also have to remember he spent a good amount of time after the death of his father in Atlantis, and entrenched himself pretty deep so it isn't far fetched to think he would pick up a bit of their dialect, and I don't mind it much cause then I can read it in the voice of the Batman The Brave and The Bold Aquaman cause it gives the same since of grandeur.
On another note, I like that they're going for something different but the brown/black top just doesn't seem to fit on the color pallet with Orange and Green. Not saying it can't turn around and wow but there was some really cool concept art shown on DC All Access today that I would've loved to see
okay, two issues I have with the art: 1) something about it, probably the colors, reminds me of a porno comic that I saw a good while back that wish I could forget exists and 2) the biggest issue I have with the redesigned outfit so far is the hair, it reminds of the hairstyle in that Infinite Crisis video game, which I also didn't like (the hair, not the game).

He's on the run, his hairstyle reflects that, I doubt he has the time nor the concern to cut his hair.
@inferiorego: Its the way of the comic book fan, Matt: bitch about anything and everything even if you don't have anything to go on.

I think it's just you. I looked it over again, and throughout the size seems consistent for what looks like a Gladius-like sword, going by the length and partially design.
Personally, I think this looks better as a trident than his old one. I could never get around a supposed trident having five prongs.
Aquaman used to fight these Lovecraftian monsters all the time back in the day called Midnight Gods, I hope they are bringing them back.
@scouterv: Oh I totally agree, when it's in trident mode it looks completely badass when it's a trident. Screw those tridents that have more than 3 prongs, they're not real tridents, they're just really big forks.

No idea really
@justthatkid: I've been saying the from the start. His dialogue is weird. He doesn't sound like Arthur.
I really enjoyed Johns/Parker/Reis/Pelletier on the book but had fallen a bit behind and still need to catch up on Maelstrom. A little sad to see the drastic art change in this preview from Reis and Pelletier who I really enjoyed as well as Bunn taking over whom I have rarely enjoyed.
