This series is downright terrible. Art is bad and it's like it's written for 5 year olds. MJ in a costume still looks absurd.
BUT THE MARRIAGE IS BACK! FAMILY MAN PETER FINALLY GROWN UP! THIS IS GOING TO BE THE MAIN CONTINUITY RIGHT????
Spider-Man is my favorite hero btw, but this series is a big let-down. I hope this guy doesn't write Spider-Man after Slott.
WHY!?
This series is excellent. The art is pure eyecandy, completely vibrant and energetic and positive. Spider Man and MJ are written in-character and Conway has managed to write Annie like a true kid.
The guy writing this story is the dude who wrote Spider Man's most legendary story: Night Gwen Stacy Died and the second Amazing Spider Man writer succeeding Stan Lee. He's awesome and fully pro marriage.
Case in point this series is AWESOME and by far the best Spider Man book out there. Like lightyears away better than anything else.
Slott's ASM and Clone Conspiracy are pure garbage.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I feel this series is the closest thing we get to authentic spidey. Sorry but Gerry Conway is a longtime spiderman writer and is notoriously known to have made some of the greatest Spidey stories and created the Punisher.
To me, Gerry is doing a good job at showcasing everything that Spidey should be and originally was. Yes it's weird that MJ is in a supersuit but it has grown on me thanks to how its presented. Annie is enjoyable to read and not annoying but does act very childlike. Ryan Stegman is a pretty good artist in my opinion. I enjoy his work. Even though I didn't touch superior spiderman, I did notice the art in that series was excellent. From what I see in RYV, he may even be getting better at his art as time goes on.
But yeah, Renew Your Vows won't be for everyone and the first story arc has dragged the battle on for some time to showcase how each family member spends their day. Still it's to flesh out the world of RYV a bit more but it can come off as annoying.
This may not be for you, but to me, It's highly enjoyable and what we miss. Dan Slott's writing is everywhere and I have no clue what will be left in Spider-Man's supporting cast when he is done with his next story arc. Dan Slott is a definite no for me with Conway being the guy I want writing my Peter Parker stories.
To each their own but I think RYV is the better book.
