First Look: GROOT #1

Not from me, they aren't. The movie was good, but I couldn't care less about the GotG...

Looks great and a nice replacement for Rocket Raccoon ending. I'm not sure the best time to launch a new ongoing is while all of the new Secret Wars books are coming out though. Budgets are already busted.

@mcbig: The movie wasn't bad, but i think all of these series's spinning off of it exist just because of the movie, not because there's a story to be told with the characters

On topic it looks fun, but Groot isn't really a character I care much about despite loving most of the GotG. He's more of a novelty to me.

@granitesoldier: No one thought that. Their interest levels just rose just enough to warrant to buy the comics and for Marvel to branch off, in a way.

Yeah, let's hope that Groot's on-going has an actual plot to it. The art looks fun though.

Now don't get me wrong, I enjoyed RR but the last issue... It kind of cheapened the whole run into nothing but bunch of gags and funny scenes and I was expecting a little bit more from Young.

This looks adorable. I thought I'd have no interest at all but I might check it out after seeing this.

There's essentially 3 ways for Groot to communicate the same message. "I am Groot", "I am Groot", and the fan favorite "I am Groot".

Obviously, Groot works best as a peripheral character.

i never said that there aren't stories to be told, i said that Marvel isn't releasing all these gotg comics because there are, but because fat stacks.

I am Groot? {translation} Hmm I wonder what is going to happen in this book where the character can only say three words?

I know in the movies Groot only says "I am Groot" but during Annihilation: Conquest he talked in full sentences. What is the deal?

Seems to be fun series by the preview. I have to read the series to gather more information but there is the elephant of series how they deal with Groot´s lack vocabulary which cool be bad or good thing.

I'll be checking issue one out.

Rocket Raccoon has been super fun and this is looking like it'll be in a very similar vein to that series. Count me in.

just to save time and resources for marvel. Why not just bring back Tales of the Marvel Universe? each 2 issues is a whole story featuring a character. obviously it would not sell as much cause for some reason people are neurotic about getting a number one rather than asking someone at the store if its on a new story arc yet. but come on.

So are these pages just unlettered, or is this going to be a mostly silent book (presumably with Groot delivering his catchphrase once an issue)?

I might check it out... while i like the character, i think a ongoing with him alone might be semi blah

I think with every regeneration from a branch his verbal capability degenerates, reducing his vocabulary into "I am Groot."

If they only knew about the 31st century Guardians back in the day...

But this looks fun now that Groot got his own series.

I put this on my pull list when I first heard about it. Interested in seeing how they rely on expressions and physical comedy in place of dialogue for Groot. :)
