OCCUPY AVENGERS #1

No Caption Provided

(W) David Walker (A) Carlos Pacheco (CA) Agustin Alessio

Super heroes - they're a privileged class. Doing what they want, when they want and suffering no consequences. They have no regard for the ordinary people who are left behind to suffer in their wake. Who will stand up for the little guy? There is a man. If you can find him, and if he believes in your story, he and his friends will put things right. Some call them outlaws, rebels, Robin Hoods. To others, they are heroes. No powers to speak of - just skills, smarts and a burning drive to do the right thing. His name is Hawkeye. Occupy Avengers: It's time to "Take Back Justice"!

Red Wolf feels kinda forced, but I'm always happy to see Clint get more attention

Very nice cover too, I like the humor associated with Clint, but I'm also really glad to see him standing in such a dignified position

Did you read the Red Wolf series? It looks like it literally picks up from where that series was heading into this story, with Red Wolf still working with Ortiz in Santa Rosa, New Mexico.

I'll be interested in seeing how far Marvel editorial is willing to let this commentary on minority-rights and Clint water crisis to go. Marvel hasn't had any mainstream heroes in socially conscious books for long awhile.

I can't wait until Amadeus Cho catches up with Clint...if they don't put it where he at LEAST tries to put him in traction for what he did to Bruce I am DONE with Marvel.

Clint is wearing his shirt about two sizes too small just to show off his guns.

Yep, that's his new theme.

Well, there was a trial. And he hates that he did it. AND he will get praised by strangers for killing someone he considered a friend. Not to mention that at least 40% of the Marvel heroes, including those he consider friends, think less of him for something Bruce asked him to do. Sounds like it sucks to be Clint Barton.

Soo how does killing Bruce Banner and walking away with MURDER doesn't make Clint Barton Privileged Superhero 'class' ? That whole premisis sounds stupid as hell.

This is a potentially interesting premise, but "Occupy Avengers" is a terrible title.

As far as the general public/man on the street is concerned, the Hulk was a monster and a menace and killing him wasn't murder.

Did you read the Accused? The defense pretty easily shows that from Clint's point of view that he killed Banner in defense for the lives of his friends, the lives of a ton of innocent people, and for his own life. That was only heightened by Bruce Banner coming to him and asking Clint to kill him if he tries to Hulk out. Honestly that story made it pretty easy to identify with both sides of the trial.

Well this looks subtle. Still why is killing the Hulk such a big deal? He really only killed Banner. That's like praising someone who shoots someone else in the back. Besides death is about the weakest force in comics, a toothache is more serious. Bruce'll be back in a year or two.

And yet, The Hand already stole Banner's body and resurrected the Hulk but in their control...So GREAT JOB CLINT.

Exactly. It's like the people who blame Batman for the lousy security at Arkham Asylum. He caught them, it's not his job to keep them locked up, too.

So why is a police deputy cosplaying as John Redcorn from King of the Hill? I get that he is Native American, and I get that he was transplanted from the old west after Secret Wars, but shirtless with a vest in 2016? Indian Tribe Police wear the same black uniforms as all other officers. Carlos Pacheco was a big sell for me on this book, but this is definitely not some of his best work.

Because I like Walker, and because Hawkeye is one of my favorite characters, I will pick this up, but so far I am not liking what I see.

If this is the kind of book you are interested in reading, check out Nick Spencer's Sam Wilson: Captain America. It has a lot of super dudes punching each other, but above all it is sociopolitical commentary at its best.

Just a thought, but maybe being the warden of a Super Jail would be a better occupation for Batman in a world where individuals like Shazam and Superman are around? They could catch them, and he could literally do nothing but prep cells!
