Whenever you hover your mouse over someones avatar their followers are listed as 0 as opposed to displaying the actual number of followers.

It would appear that the only times where this isn't broken are if

• you're in a PM and you hover over someone's avatar in a PM
• if you're in a thread marked as a blog, in which case only the OP's
  avatar will show their followers if you hover your cursor over it
