Poll Who Has Better Durability: MCU Thanos or MCU Thor? (125 votes)
they both had some impressive durability in IW.
who do you think has better pure durability though?

Hard one
Could Thor survive stormbreaker being planted into his chest?
Could thanos survive holding the forge open for several minutes?
I would probably side with thanos
By feats, Thor, but Thanos is no slouch. By what the directors probably intend, Thanos.
Thor has better feats. Thanos is likely mean to be more durable and stronger though.
It's worth noting that Thor also has regeneration now, so his overall damage soak is not just sheer durability.
when did he get that?
He clearly healed very fast after the star almost killed him, IIRC.
@anthp2000: only with stormbreaker he has regen.
Huh, I don't remember the scene correctly so I'll take your word for it.
Whe he was dying the dwarf said "He needs the hammer" hence why groot finished putting the pieces together so it could heal him.

@x_insignia1: Rocket said he was dying not The Dwarf.
By onscreen feats Thor by far, but Thanos is probably meant to be more durable by the directors
It's just that Thor can take everything Thanos took in the film except maybe the Stormbreaker through the chest. But even then Hela impaled Thor multiple times in Ragnarok and he took it similarly to Thanos taking Stormbreaker.
As a matter of fact Thor took it better, as he literally never had a limp or seemed injured for longer than a few seconds. He moved perfectly in the very next scene after being stabbed like 10 times. He was completely normal by the time Hulk attacked Surtur, the only lasting injury he sustained was losing his eye.
That fight showed crazy regen and damage soak from Thor (yep he was regenerating long before Stormbreaker). But Stormbreaker is more powerful than Hela's blade so we still don't know if he can survive Stormbreaker.
I still vote Thanos though.

the Dwarf said "He needs the axe" as he was dying
Thanos tanked hits from Cap's vibranium shield, which are pointy at the end and would have insane piercing damage. He also took no damage from Hulk's attack. Thor does have better feats but I feel like people are forgetting this

Thanos fodderized the mess out of Hulk, no other character except Surter has done that to date.

Thanos. While Thor has better feats (tanking the full blast of the star), Thanos was written to be far more durable Thor. Thanos hardly used the gauntlet to shield himself from attacks. He just tanked it with his own physical being. The only attack that ever truly hurt him was Stormbreaker. Even then, that was because it was a weapon made by the same guy who created the Infinity Gauntlet, as well as the same material. Uru has energy absorption and deflection properties. Thanos didn't know that Thor got the Axe from Eitri, hence why he tried to stop it with a team instead of just reality warping it out of existence.
(the writers confirmed that this was the reason it could "cut" through the Infinity Gauntlet beam)
So Thanos is who I would choose.
If I were to make an official MCU durability list. It'd be this.
Hulk
Thor (Hulk and Thor are close)
Hela
Surtur
Thanos
Ego
Dormammu
The last two because of size. With Dormammu not even being a physical entity.
Thor has better heat reistance/energy durability feats.
Thanos has better blunt force durability feats.
In terms of piercing durability, neither of them are particularly impressive.
Thor By feats. Hopefully the Russo’s continue this trend of Thanos being an unstoppable beast.
I better here these lines in the next movie.
“How do we kill this guy”.
“I do t think we can”.
@aka_aka_aka_ak: I still don't get why people use IM making Thanos bleed as a low showing. The bleeding edge armor was featless, so we don't know how much power Tony was packing with his attack. On the other hand, we also don't know the limits of Thanos's durability, but he completely tanked punches from Hulk and no sold vibranium blades, so it's an impressive feat for IM.
At the beginning of Infinity War, Thanos easily.
Thor's durability is dependent on how much of his godly powers he can channel. I always interpreted Thor recovering from the injuries he sustained by the star as being the same as the instance where he recovered after taking a hit from the destroyer. Just like how Mjolnir healed Thor by granting Thor a degree of his godly powers, Stormbreaker healed Thor because it channeled Thor's power as a god to its full extent. Not sure if this counts as durability in a strict sense or a healing factor.
They have both taken hits from the Hulk. Usually Thor goes flying and won't be seen for days maybe weeks. Thanos just childplay with Hulk with pettiness for a bit then retaliated.
@shaladue: Thanos wasn't struggling to lift Hulk. The act of picking up something overhead put pressure on his internal organs.
Anyways, Thanos should be slightly more durable than Thor even by feats. Thanos' arm didn't disintegrate after using all the stones at once for the snap. Just one stone was burning Thor's head. Thanos also tanked Thor's lightning. Iron Man didn't draw blood using one attack. It was multiple attacks in the same area that weakened the skin just enough. Even final form Ultron took damage from multiple sustained, high powered, and concentrated attacks. Thanos getting scratched when his skin is not even vibranium isn't surprising in the context of the MCU. He did get a face full of missiles and dealt with other heroes before Iron Man's high momentum energy hammer attack.
Well Thor by feats, Thanos by implication.
IW already had Thor beat, now we have things like burn victim Thanos recovering instantaneously from Captain Marvel’s bullrush and Prime Thanos tanking Scarlet Witch's attacks which broke his Sword that was more durable than vibranium. Thanos stomps hard
Thanos by far. Thor’s best feat is surviving the full energy of a star. Thanos has literally been stated to have invincible skin that was only pierced by the magic of Stormbreaker, and being point blank of the biggest energy surge in the universe.
