Although Toph would stomp Ghazan and beat Kuvira in a 1v1, I can't see her dealing with both at the same time, especially due to Kuvira's fighting style.
I think i’ll give this to Toph. Her scale and combat speed should allow her to relegate Ghazan’s lava which is consistently slow in practice. The second she counters that she has the range and precision to overwhelm him rather quickly. Don’t see him playing much of a factor here for said reasons. Kuvira in Zaofu is a threat for sure but she’s nothing Toph can’t handle comfortably. Toph’s also shown consistent 2v1 capacity in battles against earthbenders, so even if they went the metal strips + melting barrage route she should be able to counter that.
Toph can win or lose depending on how she performs, At her best tho I can see her winning, she really has to abuse her AOE, power and versatility for this.
Toph would confidently defeat Ghazan and beat Kuvira for a majority, but her problem with this fight is that she can’t shutdown Ghazan early with Kuvira running interference.
Kuvira buys enough time for Ghazan to roast her. I don’t view this as all that close. The location is a big buff for Kuvira as well.
I stand by the fact that Toph would easily beat Kuvira and eventually best Ghazan but with both of them together I fear she wouldn't last long. The sheer problem here is Kuvira's Draw Speed coupled with Lava Bending, an element TOPH isn't well versed in.
If Toph though was a Lava bender, even remotely, given how she can sense and bend mud, she'd totally wreck them both seeing as how there's nothing she won't "see" coming
Toph vs Kuvira is already a good fight with Toph having more power and Kuvira better sniping skills. Adding Ghazan on top is too much, Toph has her limits like when she struggled to catch a non-bending Azula.
@rhoynedelta: Except she didn’t. She only attacked Azula once in that “chase” and spent the rest of it dealing with the Dai Li. Then the next attack she threw at Azula successfully pinned her to the wall. No idea why people interpret that scene as Toph having struggles with Azula when they barely interacted while Aang missed 5 or more airblasts while actively chasing her unlike Toph.
The team has it. Lava bending is a great counter to standard Earthbending and Kuviras feats with Metal bending blow kid Tophs out of the water. Toph has an advantage over any Earthbender because of seismic sense but if the team relies on their Subbending they should take her out. Both are master benders and not that far below her.
