I hate the way he talks but Tom seems the bigger. err.. coward

i would say tom because he actually has to find a way to out smart jerry. the only reason sylvester can never get tweety is because there's always somethin else gettin in the way not because he has to out think tweety but cant.

i think you just contradict yourself so.. tom has to find a way to outsmart jerry--> he never catches jerry --> he didnt outsmart jerry   sylyester can never get tweety because something happens that get in his ways--> it is not that he cant outsmart.. therefore !! "

Both are equally failures.

Tom, even though he fails constantly he at least has his plans work somewhat. Sometimes anyway. Yeah also he has greater durability feats and could outsmart Sylvester.

This is a pretty good fight. I know time from time, Tom was kind of getting punk'd by Butch but that was more over competition. In an all out fight I think I will give it to Tom. Sylvester is durable but I believe I have seen Tom take more punishment than he has.

Sylvester would win I like Tom more as a character but he is kind of a whimp. I don't think he has it in him to fight another cat without resources

Tom actually managed to beat Jerry handful of times in the cartoons, but I don't recall Sylvester ever beating Tweety in anyone of the cartoons. In terms of who uses their brains more, Sylvester couldn't even tell apart between a fake bird in disguise and the actual Tweety despite the obvious difference. So yeah Tom beats Sylvester in a fight.

People seem to forget that Tom has won fights against Jerry before. Or at the very least managed to trap Jerry helplessly.

Sylvester may have done the same to Tweety, but as someone pointed out, Tweety usually escapes via plot-convenience or someone saving him. Jerry actually outthinks Tom and saves himself more times than not.

So, it’s a much bigger deal when Tom gets any upper hand, as it’s a battle of sheer wits against a mouse who has possibly some of the best quick thinking next to Bugs Bunny and some underrated DIY know-how based on his mousehole‘s furnishings.

@pyrofn: You are burning up. Plus people seem to forget that Tom already has experience fighting other cats. Whether its his rivals or just dirty alley cats, he knows a confrontation. Sylvester? Dont really recall him ever fighting cats.

Tom no diffs

Sylvester has not fought in any battles. He just takes an L to Tweety in every episode of the show. On the other hand, Tom would occasionally come out with a win against Jerry in addition to the alley cats.

I agree. Tom may occasionally lose but he holds his own some of the time. Sylvester always loses.
