@greysentinel365: Good one. Jokes aside people are underselling Maria big time. Probably because they don't know how Tock's semblance works. I believe the team together can put up a good fight, but no one solos.
@cartoonlife: It's not a joke. Also Tocks semblance was confirmed by the animators on Twitter and on RWBY rewind to be 60 seconds of invincibility.
Not that it really mattered as Tock bullied Maria regardless. But the only feat Tock has is bullying Maria and the only feat Maria has is losing to Tock.
Apart from that they just have standard bullet timing that students can do and below average striking.
Cardin could beat either. Qrow or Tyrian curbstomps Tock and Maria simultaneously.
@greysentinel365: And by admitting you were serious about Cardin you've lost all credibility here. Maria blocked gunfire shot at her from behind without even looking. Remind you of anything? Oh yes, when Tyrian did the same with his tail. I'll be darned if Cardin could ever remotely replicate that feat. Maria struck Tock directly in the face with the tip of her scythe which could have potentially ended the fight there. Tock's semblance prevented her from even acknowledging the hit. Again, you are underselling Maria bigtime.

If you watch the fight on 0.25. Tock actually predicted the head and head butted the scythe which is why that time it flew out of Maria’s hand that time. As opposed to later when Maria could freely kick her away.
I think it’s you who are not understanding the semblance’s here.
@greysentinel365: Her semblance makes her invincible. Say you have a baseball bat and you swing it into a solid steel wall as hard as you can, that bat will likely fly out of your hands do to the shock of the impact. Her semblance was just like that. Maria struck an invincible force and it knocked her weapon from her hand.
As for Maria's semblance, I'm not so sure it works like spidey sense to tell her of incoming danger. Even if it is, she stated that it only activates just before she is struck not a little bit in advance. Doesn't seem like enough time to react to the bullets from the que of her semblance alone. I agree that it probably helped, but it's not the only reason she was able to block the shots. You said yourself the semblance has its limits.
@cartoonlife: Except Tocks sembqknce doesn’t work like that. She’s not immovable or anything. We see her get kicked away through the shield later. Maria is specifically disarmed due to Tock predicting her attack and head butting it out of her hand

It was confirmed on RWBY rewind it does work like that. And based on how long before the apple fell Maria stuck out her hand to catch it even in her old age it gives her significant omnidirectional awareness and precognition. After that it’s just basic bullet timing same as any other low level in RWBY. It only does Maria any good if she can react in time. She cannot react to Qrow or Tyrian. Hell any of the students.
Hell CRWBY even revealed that there is a sound cue that plays when Maria is using it. Guess when it plays? The entirety of her fight.
Her semblance’s limit comes from engaging actual opponents who strike faster than gunfire. I.E near every named character in RWBY.
@cartoonlife: The Grimm Reaper has absolutely no feats to beat either of them. Not only does she just have feats of a standard student, she also performed nothing on Qrow's level. What puts her above Qrow in speed? What puts her above him strength? What puts her above him durability? Its also possible that Qrow would have had more years of fighting experience considering she retired at a young age. The only thing that made her great was that she is a fantastic Grimm killer who would have not beaten a lot of those Grimm had it not been for her Silver Eyes. Ruby has already performed feats that puts her leagues above Maria without Silver Eyes. Just compare their performances to the Giant Nevermore. Ruby did a much better job physically and Tyrian made it clear he was a whole tier above her.
Not only that, she came from an era before Qrow's meaning that modernized techniques might not have been founded that time. She is also seemingly retired at an extremely young age as she mentions IIRC the number of years since she last fought as the Grimm Reaper. Qrow might have actually had even more time to gain fighting experience.
Qrow stomps her, Tyrian stomps her, Ruby could stomp her. There is nothing that doesn't make this a mismatch.
@cartoonlife: And as ridiculous as it is to think Cardin could beat anyone in RWBY, he is in fact stronger than Maria and even harder to put down. Just look at how many hits he took from Phyrra, who even has good feats. He doesn't lose any credibility just because its "Cardin". That is not what you call debating, and you are massively overselling what Maria is capable of. Even if you look at it in a narrative perspective, she isn't always successful with her saving grace being her silver eyes.
@gilgameshthepimptoendallpimps: Qrow was inspired by Maria's techniques and legend, ( he probably didn't know she took that many grimm through her eyes ) but that doesn't automatically make her superior even by in universe logic.
