It's not a consistent part of the Debater.

Besides, if they did have one with every issue, I'd likely take up about 90% of the showings, and that would likely get old after a while.

Mike Deodato leaving Marvel Comics soon

Longtime Marvel artist, Mike Deodato has confirmed in a tweet on March 3rd that he will be leaving Marvel Comics after the conclusion of Savage Avengers. Some of Deodato's best known works include Journey Into Mystery, Old Man Logan, and Mighty Thor volume 1. You can read the full tweet in the article linked below. Deodato also hints at what he wants to accomplish after leaving Marvel.

Battles of the week

Silver Surfer vs. Hal Jordan & Thor

For this week's first Comic Battle thread, we have a thread made by skywalker95, a user who's been posting some relatively decent threads these past few months. Here we have everybody's favorite Herald, Silver Surfer, fighting a DC and a Marvel powerhouse who most people agree can't beat him 1v1, Green Lantern Hal Jordan, and Thor. Thread was posted 2 days ago and is currently 80 posts long. Thor is Worthy, Hal is allowed Post-Crisis/New 52/Rebirth feats and Surfer is Post-Annihilation. All of them are bloodlusted and fight to kill.

Jean Grey vs. Professor X

Second comic battle for this week is a fight between two so called strongest telepaths and some of the most popular X-Men characters ever, Jean Grey. In case you have no interest in reading the OP, know that these are comic versions of the characters. OP included a movie pick for visuals only. Thread is posted as a poll, with Jean Grey as first option, Charles as the second option, and "too close to call" as the third. There are over 110 votes so far and more than half of them currently go to Jean. Most of the arguments on the other hand, support Xavier over Jean.

DCEU Nam-Ek vs. MCU Hulk

Third battle this week is a Live Action battle, between DCEU and MCU character. Nam-Ek and Hulk to be exact. With so many Superman threads saying he stomps, it might be better to include another Kryptonian with less abilities and less impressive feats. Unlike Faora who was more of a fast fighter, Nam-Ek was more of a tank, more suited to fight the Hulk. Is this a better match-up than against Superman? Or will Nam-Ek be stomped, either due to inferior power or his helmet being crushed? Hulk is only allowed feats from first 2 Avengers movies and both are bloodlusted. This is a 2 year old thread that got bumped multiple times, including recently, and is now on it's fourth page.

Anakin Skywalker vs. Darth Caedus

Last thread for this week will be a Star Wars thread. The battle between Grandfather and grandson. Anakin Skywalker. The most powerful Force Sensitive in history. Hero of the Clone Wars and Jedi Knight later turned into Sith Lord Darth Vader, faces his daughter's and Han Solo's son, Jacen Solo, now Sith Lord, Darth Caedus (not to be confused with Disney Canon/New Trilogy character Ben Solo/Kylo Ren, this is New Jedi Order character from Expanded Universe/Legends). A lot of people argue that Caedus surpassed his grandfather Darth Vader. But, Vader was a shadow of what Anakin Skywalker was when it comes to potential in the force. Can he beat his grandfather's more potentially powerful version from Revenge of the Sith? Anakin is composite. First round is with lightsabers only. Second round is where everything is allowed.

CaVs of the Week

Galan the Truth (King Guiness) vs Ulquiorra Cifer (Shirso)

Some intense anime action that is already getting positive comments. We’ve got Galan the Truth from Nanatsu no Taizai and Ulquiorra Cifer from Bleach. It’s only part-way through, but the posts are hugely in-depth with some nicely-complex counters. A great debate to learn about these characters.

Chimeroid (Etrigan) vs Darthjhawk (Adam Warlock)

A whole suite of All-Star CAVs has been sweeping the Vine, and they promise to be great. Most of them are only in the beginning stages, but of those that have gotten off at least a couple of posts, I had to choose this one simply because Chimeroid did most of his defense of Etrigan in poem form! Meanwhile Darthjhawk gave a great intro to the always-mysterious Adam Warlock. Two very formidable beings whose supernal powers are wide-ranging and always-evolving—this should be a great match.

Write, Write, Demon and Savior, and create a debate that we can Savor!

Megamind (Defiant_Will) vs Wizard (Juiceboks)

Two super-genius masters of malevolence (ok, one is reformed) measure up against each other in a megalomaniacial match! I love to see debaters take under-used and goofy characters and show us why we should take them seriously. I was in a CAV against the Wingless Wizard a while ago and I’ll never underestimate him again. If you want to see why, this thread will teach you to fear his mastery of gravity—while Megamind will soon have you worrying about his dreaded Brainbots.

Elminster (floopay) vs. Eragon (the_red_viper)

A great theme—two magic-users known largely from novels. Elminster Aumar from Forgotten Realms, and Eragon from the Inheritance Cycle. I’m not directly familiar with either of these characters, but these two experienced debaters have already drawn me in, with good writing and good will. This debate will obviously end up being mostly text instead of images, and it will be fun to see how they navigate that challenge.

Best Stuff in Comics This Week

Best Old Man Fight

Batman Beyond #29
Batman Beyond #29

If there's one rivalry between hero and villain that surpasses all others, it's between Batman and the Joker. We've seen a few iterations of the old Bruce Wayne and Joker, most notably in the comic as well as the animated movie of The Dark Knight Returns. In this comic we get to see them square off once again, with the all the chips on the table. While it's not the most flashy or epic battle, the history of the two characters speaks more than words can surmise. It's definitely worth checking out.

Best Dimension Hopping Shenanigans

The Terrifics #13
The Terrifics #13

The multiverse is one of the coolest creations for comic book writers, allowing them to have multiple incarnations of characters to tell amazing stories, to create all sorts of crises, or even just to let some hero get killed that can never die in the standard continuity. It's always fun to have adventures to these other dimensions, and we'll likely soon get to see some more of that with some other universe action in the current Superman run. With that said, as Mister Terrific and his dead wife from a different universe run from a powerful enemy, they run through some interesting places. Can you name all of the stories from these worlds?

Best Worst Parenting

The Amazing Spiderman #16
The Amazing Spiderman #16
The Amazing Spiderman #16
The Amazing Spiderman #16

Kraven the Hunter is what you may call a narcissistic man. He didn't think his family was good enough to carry on his name, so he just cloned himself a couple dozen times, then told them to go hunt and prove themselves the greatest hunter. It's only natural then that this crazed killer would have a son that kills all of his other sons in order to prove himself worthy, and based on Kraven's reaction, you can tell that he had some struggles raising these children properly...

Best Arm to Take

High Level #1
High Level #1

Some people are left-handed. Some people are right-handed. Of course, we all have different things we do with these arms, and that's personal business, unless someone tries to cut it off. So always keep in mind that you should ask before cutting off any hands, because you never know what they might be using it for.

James Gunn's Suicide Squad is a Total Reboot

That's right folks. Forget the recent Suicide Squad film, because James Gunn is breathing new life into the iconic team of anti heroes. This is not "Suicide Squad 2", this is James Gunns take on the team, which is reportedly drawing inspiration from the legendary run of John Ostrader and Kim Yale. With such great inspiration and such a solid director at the helm, maybe the upcoming film can do what the original failed to do.

Cowboy Bebop cast assembled

The cast list is assembled, and we have our main starts. We now know that John Cho will be playing Spike Spiegel and that Mustafa Shakir will be playing Jet Black, as well as Daniella Pineda joining the two as Faye Valentine. With the pilot being directed by Alex Garcia Lopez (Daredevil, Punisher, Luke Cage), and written by Christopher Yost (Thor TDW, Ragnarok), this might very well be a decent take on such an iconic animated series.

Deadpool to return to cinema

Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn confirmed that more Deadpool is on the way. The cinemas has not seen the last of the Merc with a Mouth While we have no solid updates on the third films release date, we do know that one is being made and will release....eventually.

Battle threads of the week

Ultimate Jean Grey vs Emma Frost (616)

Starting of this week, we have the fight between two of the most powerful Marvel female telepaths, Jean Grey and Emma Frost. Scott Summer's main love interests. However, this is not 616 Jean Grey, but her Ultimate counterpart, who is way weaker. Most fans assume Jean is way more powerful so this should be closer. This is also an extremely old thread. Almost 8 years old. But it is only 2 pages long, and it got bumped recently.

Michael & Lucifer Vs Thanos{hotu} & Protege

Another relatively old yet way larger thread, next entry are Angel Brothers and some of the most powerful beings in the DC Universe, versus Thanos with Heart of the Universe and another popular top tier fighter, Protege. What's interesting about this fight is that everyone has their own interpretation of power for every single character here. All 4 of them are pretty controversial when it comes to where they stand among the Power Hierarchy, making this quite an interesting thread to look at.

MCU Thanos vs DCEU Wonder Woman

Next battle is another DC vs. Marvel fight, tho a Live Action one, with Thano yet again as he appeared in Infinity War movie, versus Wonder Woman from the DCEU. This fight is composed of 2 rounds. First one being limited to hand to hand only, with no gear like the gauntlet or sword/shield. Second is provides Diana with her shield and her sword, and Thanos is allowed to use the Time Gem/Stone and the Power Gem/Stone. This thread was posted almost a year ago, and it got bumped multiple times. Even few days ago, and the debate still goes on, spread throughout more than 2 pages, and this is only counting the recent ones. For those of you who like Live Action fights, well, what are you waiting for?

Darth Maul VS Darth Malgus (Force Battle)

Now we are getting into Star Wars battles. One limited to Force Abilities only. No lightsabers or hand to hand combat involved. Just raw power, proficiency, versatility and endurance. An interesting concept given that the two Sith Lords fighting here, Darth Maul and Darth Malgus, focus more on lightsabers and stats than the Force. But which one will come out on top? The False Emperor and walking tank of the Old Republic, or the first apprentice and Sith Assassin of the most powerful Sith Lord of all time? Both killed masters of same Jedi Knights/Padawans who will later beat them in a fight, yet fail to kill them. Both rely on raw rage and bloodlust during combat so there will be no mercy. Also, Legends material only.

Momoshiki Runs a Dragon Ball Gauntlet

Last entry for this week is the gauntlet composed of characters from one of, if not the most popular Manga of all time, lead by a villain from, another one of the most popular Manga of all time. Momoshiki Otsutsuki, the main villain of Boruto the Movie and Boruto Manga and Anime arc, runs the 5 round log gauntlet at his best, completely healed between rounds. He will face early Saiyan Saga Piccolo, Raditz, Nappa, Vegeta (tho it is unknown if this is Saiyan Saga Vegeta or mid Namek Saga Vegeta) and finally, Frieza in his First Form. Naruto and Dragon Ball are not the most popular Manga rivals, but threads pitting two Universes have gotten more and more frequent, at least as far as I know. How far can Momoshiki go? Can he clear or not? Are Naruto God Tiers closer to top tiers of the Z characters than this gauntlet might suggest, or are they still far below?

CaVs of the Week

CaV: Garou (@defiant_will) vs Madara (@krleavenger)

As the op says, here we’ve got monster vs ninja. I like what krleavenger has to say about this—that it’s a debate between classic one punch man and Naruto characters that isn’t just a flame war between superfans. It’s got some great lengthy arguments, and lots of detail for something that’s just starting out. It’s also good to see a match-up between someone who is very comfortable with manga and someone who normally focuses in other areas; we get good cross-pollination of debating ideas and styles that way.

CaV: MCU Daredevil (@subline) vs DCEU Batman (@the_gaurdian)

Two classic foes, often pitted against each other in a variety of contexts. Here we have the MCU and DCEU versions of Daredevil and Batman. Both can take a punch and a half, both are skilled and have some gear to back them up. Daredevil has some great moments against Nobu and Black Sky, while Batman has fought Parademons and all kinds of superhuman foes. Which live action headliner will take the win?

All-Star CaV |@mr_ingenuity(Nate Grey) vs@kevd4wg(Genis Vell)

The All-Star CAV debates have been a really fruitful place to see great debating. Here we have two very powerful Marvel characters, the great psychic Nate Grey against Genis-Vell, cosmic spawn of Kree power. Nate has taken over the mind of the massively powerful Legion, while Genis has cosmic awareness on his side. Both sides have a full arsenal of abilities and a ridiculous amount of energy at their disposal.

Multi-Media Street Tourney R1:@majinblackheart vs @deathhero61

Most weeks, I have to put in at least one debate where I’m just happy that that battle exists. This week, this is that battle. Rocket Raccoon and a pack of dinosaurs against a slate of manga warriors and their battle gear. This battle would be just totally entertaining to watch, and it’s also already totally entertaining to read. Plus, the question of who’s got the best tech, and who could survive in a close quarters fight, should be a great discussion.

Battle Threads of the Week

Composite Thor vs. Composite Hal Jordan

Our first thread is an older one, made by yours truly, which got bumped recently. A battle between Thor and Hal Jordan in all of their forms combined into one. Thor gets Odin Force, Rune Magic, Destroyer, Power Gem, all that good stuff. Hal gets Parallax, Spectre, all the rings and amps he carried, Krona's Gauntlet... Sort of a highly hypothetical battle, given that it is not just a comparison between feats, but how would all those combined attributes react to one another.

Rebirth Superman runs a durability gauntlet

Rebirth Superman has been lackluster in the eyes of fan's for quite some time, at least power wise. However, recently he received a lot of new feats that are quite absurd even by Post-Crisis standards, and apparently he is getting more impressive. And no better way to see how impressive he is now than to create a gauntlet of destructive attacks/events to test his durability (Rebirth feats only). This one is a bit different tho. In order for Clark to stop, he needs to die. Meaning if he gets KO'd, he can still continue with the gauntlet even if he gets KO'd. There are 5 rounds.

CW Supergirl vs. DCEU Superman

Another Superman thread, tho this time it is a Live Action one. A battle between CW TV Show version of Supergirl, and her cousin from DCEU movie universe, Henry Cavil's Superman. Kara already defeated her own version of Superman, but can she do the same thing to his movie counterpart? It's a pretty controversial topic apparently, with this poll having 265 votes and, during the time of this posting, claims that both have equal amount of votes. This thread was posted 2 years ago, but it got bumped recently and is currently 300 posts/7 pages long.

Starkiller vs. Mace Windu

There were not a lot of active Star Wars threads this week, but out of all the older, recently bumped threads included this week, this one has more newer posts/arguments than any other. And it is a battle between Vader's secret apprentice, Galen Marek/Starkiller, and Mace Windu, the second greatest Jedi (arguably) of the Clone Wars era.

Naruto and Sasuke vs. Thor and Beta Ray Bill

Want a Manga vs. Comic thread that is incredibly hostile but not banned from Battle Boards? Enter Naruto and Sasuke versus Thor and Beta Ray Bill. Ninja Jesus Duo vs. Hammer Brothers. A morals off fight at that. While this is not the best candidate for the longest thread of the week, being only 3 pages long, it is a thread for you if you are a fan of flame war type of arguments, with a lot of examples of both sides saying that the one stomps the other.

Battle of the Week: Thor vs. Black Adam

No Caption Provided

For this week's BOTW, we have Thor versus Black Adam. An incredibly active thread, which is not surprising given the match-up. During the time of this typing, the poll was posted 2 days and 18 hours ago. The poll is filled with votes (116 votes at the moment) and the thread is already 5 pages/230 posts long. Thor's been leading the votes (tho not marginally) since the beginning, and that seems to be the case still, with 53% voting for him, 41% voting for Teth, and 7% thinking it is too close to call. However, despite superior quantity of votes for Thor, it seems like there are more people actually making an actual case for Black Adam than the other way around. Regardless, this thread is far from closing so you still have a lot of time to share your thoughts on the match-up.

CaVs of the Week

CaV: Hawkeye (keyfirstnaten) vs Legolas (comicgirl21)

This is a great, detailed battle of two archers. Legolas has a crazy level of firing speed and ridiculous agility, while Hawkeye has a quiver of trick arrows, and was (Endgame spoiler!) recently murdering his way through a lot of folks in the most recent Avengers. Check out this really enjoyable debate to find out who has the better accuracy, and which archer’s approach to the way of the arrow will win out.

CaV: MCU Punisher (amendment50) vs. MCU Peggy Carter (anthp2000)

As a fan of both Agent Carter and the Punisher shows, I’m avidly following this in-depth debate. Many might underestimate the esteemed Peggy Carter, but this CAV will show you some solid hand to hand and firearms feats for her—while dressed in some damn swanky period suits and heels. Meanwhile, Frank Castle spent the last season taking an absurd amount of physical punishment, and dealing it right back out with elan. With the same gear, which one is more likely to take out the other?

CaV: Ken Kaneki (kingcrimson) vs Guts (shirso)

This features two characters I didn’t know, but seem really cool: Ken Kaneki from Tokyo Ghoul and Guts from Berserk. Anime isn’t my specialty, so I enjoy getting to learn about characters by reading good debates like this. There’s lots of enhanced stats, great skills, and impressive attacks from Kaneki’s kagune and Guts’ sword and Berserker armor.

CaV:Deathstroke (darthjhawk) vs Afro Samurai (defiant_will)

I love this matchup between the classic DC villain and the newer breakout anime/manga character. Both characters are great sword fighters, in totally different ways, so it’s great to imagine how this battle would turn out. Deathstroke has his armor, stats, and strategic sensibility to buttress his talents, while Afro Samurai has how own incredible speed, ingenuity, and a ton of skill. Check out how this match will end up.

Justin Ponsor dies at age 42

Following a 2 year battle with cancer, Justin "J-Po" Ponser has passed away. Best known for getting his start with Wildstorm, working on Backlash/Spider-Man #1, then moving on to work with CrossGen Comics as well as Marvel & DC, Ponsor has done work on Ms Marvel, Rocket Raccoon as well as The Avengers. The upcoming Avengers 19 will be one of his last published works. Condolences to his family.

New details about upcoming Wildcats series

For those who have been following, you may already know that a Wildcats series is in the works. Today, Warren Ellis has revealed new details about the upcoming series:

The Wild Storm is a slow burn, with careful gridded pages, carrying many plotlines in a novelistic way. Wildcats is none of these things. It will move very fast, it will focus exclusively on the main cast and the people and events they meet, and it will be as explosive and crazy as I can possibly make it. It will be, deliberately, the precise opposite of The Wild Storm. Control. Escape. Breakaway civilisations. Central planning. Survival. Conceptual breakthrough and the discovery that our universe is bigger than we thought. And the world is stranger than we thought."

Wildcats is due out August 28th. Fans of the current ongoing will definitely want to mark their calendars.

Big News about Spawn 300

We know that Spawn #300 will release in August 29. We know that it will be 72 pages long. And we have new news on the series as well. Legendary Batman & Spawn artist Greg Capullo will return to the series for interior art for the first time since Spawn 100. We also known that McFarlene himself will also do some interior art for the first time since Spawn 16. Other known artists contributing to this landmark issue include Jason Shawn Alexander, J Scott Campbell & Jerome Opeña. We also have confirmation that Scott Snyder will contribute to the oversized issue. The release of Spawn 300 will make it the longest running creator owned title in American comic books. Mark your calendars.

Battles of the Week

The Skyfathers(Zeus and Odin) Vs. The Evil Lords(Mephisto and Nightmare)

The duo of two strongest Skyfathers, Odin and Zeus, face Marvel's most popular Hell-Lord and Fear Lord, Mephisto and Nightmare. All 4 of them are at their regular levels of power. No prep time. Both sides are bloodlusted and Odin has Odinsword while Nightmare has the Dreamstalker.

Jean Grey vs. Onslaught

It is often debated as to whether or not Jean Grey is the most powerful telepath in the Marvel Universe or if that title goes to Charles Xavier. And this thread is quite similar to those battles as she is facing Onslaught, a being with Charles' psionic abilities. No Phoenix Force for Jean and no Nate Grey and Franklin Richards powers for Onslaught. The fight is composed of two rounds. One is with the Pink Form for Jean and the other is without it.

MCU Vision vs. DCEU Cyborg

MCU vs. DCEU is kind of a standard thing for the battle forum these days. However, these characters are not used that often which makes this thread unique. Vision vs. Cyborg. Both are humanoid and machines in some way or the other, and both are empowered by objects of great power in their respective universes. For those that are curious, this is actually a year and a half old thread and is 4 pages long, but like a lot of threads you've seen here, it got bumped recently.

Dante vs. Sasuke

Our last entry is Video Game vs. Manga fight. More specifically, the main protagonist from the Devil May Cry series, Dante, and the second main protagonist from Naruto Shonen, Sasuke. The latter is his End of the Series incarnation while Dante has his guns, swords, Pandora's box and access to Devil Trigger & Majin Devil Trigger. Both are in character and have full knowledge on their opponents and they start 30 feet away from each other.

CaVs and (mostly!) Tourneys

MCU vs DCEU vs FOX tourney: Anthp2000 (FOX) vs Webinyoureye (DCEU)

This is a great example of a CAV where the teams look hugely unbalanced at the start—a bunch of mostly street-level characters against Superman. But that only forces the creativity of the debaters, especially since the streetlevel (MCU) side has prep. It’s very enjoyable to see the creativity and detail in @anthp2000’s prep-plan. And I’m looking forward to seeing more about how @webinyoureye11 is going to attempt to counter those plans, of course. A lot of time you see prep being described in a very general, abstract way—here, it’s super-specific, and that makes it a fun match for Clark’s clear power advantage.

CaV: Hal Jordan (King-Ragnar) vs Superman (TheKinfing)

Here we get to see a classic match-up that’s being debated very well by both opponents, @king-ragnar and @thekinfing. It’s great to read the level of detail on both characters. Both of them, especially Superman, are represented here pretty often, but as thekinfing says, sometimes even major characters aren’t well-understood, so check this out as a refresher.

2019 High Mid Pyp Round 1: Sawedoffit vs Reaverlation

This is a fun mix of all kinds of random characters, with @sawed_off_it representing Fate’s Gilgamesh and Hercules, the Pokemon Darkrai, and The Seven Deadly Sins’ Hendrickson, and @reaverlation defending Naruto’s Madara and DC’s Midnighter. It’s always interesting to imagine how a range of characters like this would interact, and this slate has a huge range of powers to make that interaction all the more complex. Read along to see how it works out.

High Tier SBT 1st Edition RD1: Mass vs MajinBlackheart

Here we have another great mix, with @mass using Hirose Yuichi from Alive Final Evolution and Ohkwang from God of High School and @majinblackheart using Dragonball’s Majin Buu and Marvel’s Annihilus. Majin and Annihilus have prep, and once again that’s going to be an interesting factor in the mix. We’ve got some great info on these complex characters, and this one’s just getting started, so check it out.

Respect thread of the week: Beyghor Sahdett (written by @thevivas)

This weeks respect thread is written by notable RT creator TheVivas, Following his current trend of making Star Wars related RT's, his respect thread on notable Jedi Beyghor Sahdett is certainly something else, not just because of his race, but because of his history. This thread goes into a bit of his history, the abilities of his race, as well as his capabilities as a Jedi. While not one of bigger names in the Star Wars galaxy, he certainly is formidable, being one of the survivors of Order 66. Good use of scans, citations and formatting.

How about the recent Battle of the Week? It's been going for more than a week, and it's not featured here.

Announcement-Help Wanted

As I'm sure many of have noticed, we haven't been posting issues consistently anymore. Most of us are busy and are unable to find the time to do this on a consistent basis. As such we are looking for multiple people to help with writing the various segments we have. We are looking for people who have the time to post on a weekly basis. If you are interesting in joining the team please PM me or any of the people involved with the TDD.

@apex_pretador: You would take over one of the segments and write weekly.

@emperorthanos-: I want to, and I have the time and all, but I'm most likely unqualified.
