I know the site doesn't really like when we do these kind of fights since they arent based of fictional characters but I would really like to know who wins this fight.

IRA. Taliban cant fight a battle til the very end.

Taliban. They give the U.S Army, Marines, and even SF trouble. Even the entirety of ISAF has a hard time to take them out. I dont remember the IRA being able to take on any elite military force unless someone proves me wrong.

Why is it stupid? Because its not a repetitive Comic/Anime thread that has been done to death? Whats the big deal? I have seen similar threads such as "Yakuza vs Cartel" or drug gangs threads and they aren't locked. In fact some Mods even take part of it. They may not like them but they still give a somewhat of an opinion.

I'd say the IRA. While Taliban is more wide spread, you can put a bunch of drugged up 18 year olds with guns and get a similar outcome. Though there are real fighters among them, many are just bodies with guns. While the IRA was more selective, and chose quality over quantity. They had a single mission in mind and while fantical at times they were made up almost soley of people who became fighters/soldiers. Not just someone made strong because of a gun. In a fight of equal numbers I feel the fighting Irish should be able to win this one.

If we compare opponents. The IRA fought better overall soliders. They even had northern Ireland firmly in control for some time.

Why do I say they fought better solders let me extend an olive branch. Not saying British are supior Obviously to say marines. But no Taliban fought for long against good troops as long or won against said marines army etc. They were mostly soundly defeated in any real engagement. The IRA Actually beat large groups of highly trained British soldiers, not just small picket engagements. Any big battle win by the Taliban was against poorly trained army's with poor leadership and mostly due to numbers..

What is standard equipment for the IRA? We know what the Taliban have but I can't say the same about their opponents.

The northern Irish paramilitary IRA, is way better trained, organized and equiped.

That's because the Taliban uses fourth-generation warfare, they hide between the civilians, if the US wants, they can just annihilate the Taliban with low efforts, but a huge bunch of civilians would die.

@maiitoguy8: Most of the IRA were actually Made up of the Irish army (they left if course) so no not hillbillies lol. Though I'm sure the recruted some.

@mee09: most of the IRA were former Irish army soliders so they had what they had. They used alot of m16 , AK's, berret m82's, some SR's and others as well as far as assault riffles goes

@destinyman75: I know this is totally out of the subject but who makes tougher Marines? San Diego or Parris Island? Knowing you are a Marine (Notice I didn't say "Former" lol) I know that Marines are tough and at the end of the day they are all tough as nails but during process of training camp which of the locations produces tougher ones?

The Taliban think they are tough and ruthless because they behead and treat women like trash, but in the very deep, Western people are way more temperamental and ruthless when it comes to a conflict and punishment, if we would go back to Germanic ancestry, this is how they would end.
