Well we know Odins power trumps Thanos's. Although Surtur is not as variable with his power as Odin, I'm backing him to win a his raw power is approx equal to Odins.

Let's not blame the OP. It is up to Surtur to stop Thanos from bringing one of his Universe busting toys. The way I see it is Surtur failed to limit Thanos's accessories. Failure is weakness and weakness must be culled.

Try to make a case without breaking the concept. There is no mention of additional gear. For many battles, unless they list something, ots an unplanned encounter.

Thanos always has something in store for his enemy though. I never saw a poor showing from the Mad Titan even when he is outmatched. Surtur is good, hes another Odin level opponent, but it looked like Odin couldnt put Thanos down at all...what makes you think it will keep Thanos down? He just kept tanking and tanking Gungir until Odin gave up.

How's he able to pull it off without prep? The IG can't be assembled and the Gems are in the care of the Pet Avengers last time I checked (they fought off a Thanos clone in one of the issues). Regardless, Thanos would require prep time to get whatever he is going to get. THe OP didn't say he had any, so how is he going to bring something to the fight besides the tech. that's usually on his person?

Odin didn't give up, the fight was interrupted, and Odin was told of the real situation, so he stopepd fighting Thanos.
Besides, at the end of the fight Odin didn't have a scratch on him. He just a little peeved. Thanos was struggling to get up, and he was only ready to fight at the end because he felt he had to. Just because thanos didn't yield doesn't make him the winner of the fight. Odin was putting Thanos down, and Thanos himself couldn't do the same to Odin.

I doubt they're equals. Odin was able to send Thanos flying and knock him over quite a bit, Thanos couldn't do the same to Odin. If anything it's an example of his durability, which is different then power. If Thanos was Odin's equal, why couldn't he send Odin flying or knock him down either? If they were equals then Odin wouldn't be constantly declaring himself the winner (just an example of Odin's extreme arrogance). And just because Surtur hasn't been attacked telepathically doesn't mean he's vulnerable to it.

To show Odin that Thanos is on the same level as him. That's why Thanos wanted to fight him, he enjoys a good challenge. Why do you think Thanos challenged Tyrant when he could have just left with the orb without a conflict. Thanos is constantly humbling folks around Odin and Tyrant level. Odin was just another victim.
@Klandicar: i also remember tyrant owning the hell out of thanos as well, and no he's not showing odin anything like being on par with him, if anything odin is showing him that he is FAR FAR below.
@Klandicar: Thanos didn't humble him, his durability pissed him off, thanos used the orb and some prep to humble Tyrant. Thanos never knocked Odin down or send him flying, he didn't legitimately harm Odin at all.
Thanos would have won the fight when Odin ran out of energy, that was obviously his plan. He was letting Odin use up all his powerful blasts then they would fight hand to hand and Thanos has size and weight on Odin, the advantage would have been for Thanos in that scenario.
