Superman vs Hal Jordan

No Caption Provided

vs

No Caption Provided

The Guardians put these two into a battle of willpower to see who's more worthy of being the protector of Earth. They transfer both of their minds into a virtual world where willpower and determination decide who's more powerful and what they can do. They are both told that the fate of the Earth is at stake, and they need to do whatever is necessary to win and save the Earth. This means completely defeating the other.

Who wins this psychic battle of willpower?

What willpower feats does Superman have?

In a possible future, President Superman used ONLY his Willpower to take Guy Gardners Ring. Yeah, and as he held it, he waxed about how he'd be the most powerful being in the universe if he kept it, but he gave it to Hal saying no man should have that much power.

Hal's own ring actually originally wanted a certain "Clark Kent", however, Abin Sur recognized him as a Kryptonian and said it had to be a Human.

Superman was pretty much the only being in the multiverse who was resisting Emperor Joker. It came down to final show of Willpower at the end of everything.

He resisted Dominus, and it seemed to be a feat largely based on willpower.

Superman could easily use a power ring any time he's been shown to have one, Batman needed some schooling before he was worth a damn with it, as did Hal.

One of my favorites, but it is pre-crisis, is ripping himself free of the Black Mercy. Maybe one of the greatest willpower feats there is.

Superman has the most powerful Willpower on Earth, but its often forgotten because he so rarely cornered like others and some hilarious folks even say Batman has more Willpower than him and the GLs.

Is that true? I thought it was Hal and Guy who were chosen, but Hal was closer. I dont remember Clark being chosen first.

In Action Comics #642, it was revealed that Superman was one of a group of 8 strong-willed people on Earth who were potential candidates to be Abin Sur's replacement as Green Lantern 2814 (along with Hal Jordan, Guy Gardner, Nightwing and five other men who were unnamed). Superman was ultimately disqualified from being a candidate because Guardian law required that each sector's Lantern should be a native of that sector, and since Superman was born on Krypton, he could not be Sector 2814's GL. It's an indication that he at least had the willpower to be a Lantern, though how much in comparison to Hal's is really anyone's guess. There's a lot of contradictory accounts of Superman's willpower. In Divided We Fall, the Cathexis claimed Superman had "the strongest superhuman will in the galaxy" (although Hal was dead at the time), but in The Tenth Circle, Nudge (a telepath whose mind-control powers only work if she can overpower her opponent's will) took control of Superman's mind even though she later couldn't overpower the will of Batman of all people.

no doubt hal has mazing willpower, but Superman is the epitome of willpower. The guy never gives up or despairs. I know its non-canon, but look at superman/aliens croossover. even when the aliens were literally outside the door and supermans power was almost gone, he never gave up. also final crisis is another good example of supe's willpower.

In any case, sounds like a screwup by the writer. Batman should definitely be up there in the top tier of those with willpower on DC Earth. No way Guy Gardner and Nightwing have better willpower than Bruce.

@themagicstik: Sure but he got the green ring before the yellow ring, as did Sinestro. When Sinestro first got the Green lantern ring he wasn't using fear as he thought it was to chaotic. People evolve and the sometimes change back. Batman doesn't want to change, fear is his weapon.

Bruce's will is stronger than Clark's though, in all fairness.

Is there a panel that says that guy is Clark? Also, maybe Batman is one of the others in disguise. Could be he was disguised for an investigation at the time this happened.

Also, why no women?

Lastly, are these all the top 8 from Earth... or only from the area close enough around? Everyone in the pic looks like they could be Americans.

It's Clark. He accelerates his personal speed until the time-stop doesn't affect him, claims he doesn't know why it doesn't work on him, and then lectures Hal on duty and responsibility or something like that.
