Goku, Gohan as SSJ2 may have more potential than Goku but Goku is more experienced and has a better fighting abilities, Gohan's rage might also have factored to him matching Cell. Goku as a SSJ gave Cell a hard time so with twice multiplier he would surely take it. He also got zenkai boost in the Buu Saga which is a factor. Goku one shots the Cell Jr. and destroys them if Cell ever summons it.

Meanwhile, SSJ2 Goku is stronger than SSJ2 Teen Gohan, how much stronger is uncertain. I think it's safe to deduce that Goku is winning this one very easily.

Not true, CELL was winning until Vegeta interfered.
@subherwang: Vegito HAD AN HIGHER POWER LEVEL, and he still got turned into candy. Being stronger doesn't always mean that you negate hax in DBZ/DBS. Babidi controlling Dabura is another example.

If his power level was higher and his guard was on, I am pretty sure he could have neglected it just look at the jiren. Something like that won't work on jiren. on the top of that Vegito was playing around so he left his guard down and he actually wanted to be absorbed but he never expected buu to convert him into a candy.

That would be better but Goku should still win quite easily. He was a stronger SSJ1 than Gohan and even he realised that playing around with Cell was a bad idea.

Cell still wins. SSJ2 is only a 2x increase over SSJ and even Perfect Cell at full power was already twice as strong as SSJ Goku or close to it. Super Perfect Cell is even way stronger.

@subherwang: The only reason why Cell was winning because Gohan was mentally hindered, and both Goku and Gohan knew that it prevented Gohan from unleashing whatever <50% power he had.
Let's not forget that Cell got distracted and pushed back multiple times too (eg. Gohan got enraged when Cell hurt Piccolo), but it was when Gohan stopped doubting himself and unleashed everything he got that Cell got obliterated the moment Vegeta distracted him.

Gohan found Goku's full power and the level of Goku and Perfect Cell's fight so underwhelming, he thought that both weren't fighting seriously. Perfect Cell had to go all out in speed just to hit Gohan while he could blitz Goku at will. Not to mention that Buu Saga Goku's non SSJ3 forms are not that much stronger than Kid Gohan's despite 7 years of hard training, indicating the big gap between then.

Rage boost on top of the 2x multiplier. Plus like Goku said Gohan was selling himself short after he got injured.
