Backing Kiba, he's a horrible match up for Shikamarus style. Two fighters in one attacking from all sides with superior physical prowess to him. Adding on I feel the forest setting does more for kibas speed and agility than it does for Shikamaru IQ. Kiba's far from a genius (equally far from stupid) but it doesn't take a genius to beat Shikamaru when you have the necessary advantages to subvert his IQ.
Basic knowledge also does more for Kiba than Shikamaru imo.
Shikamaru is not an idiot, Kiba is. He has no counter for shadow possession, Akamaru cant stop it either. I bet none of you can give an in depth explanation as to why Shikamaru would lose, Kiba has no means to actually win
Shikamaru isn't just limited to the Shadow Possession Jutsu and is a true genius. Honestly he doesn't even need Shadow Possession to defeat someone like Kiba. During the Exams he moved fast enough to briefly blitz Temari while messing around. And he is quite proficient with his Ninja Tools. It'd be a challenge but Shikamaru could pull it off with just Ninja Tools.
But with Shadow Possession it becomes a mismatch. There are so many strategies that he could use against Kiba and Akamaru.
