Shang Chi vs. Batman (hand to hand)

Of course we all know Batman is a great hand to hand fighter, but is he good enough to take on arguably the greatest kung-fu master in the Marvel universe?

Shang-Chi is classed as an athlete but he is one of the best non-superhuman practitioners of martial arts and has dedicated much of his life to the art, being referred to by some as the greatest empty handed fighter and practitioner of Kung Fu alive. Much of his physical abilities seem to stem from his mastery of Qi, which has often allowed him to surpass physical limitations of normal athletes. In one instance, Shang was able to stand shirtless in minus 20 degree weather without feeling any physical discomfort. He has also demonstrated the ability to dodge bullets and to deflect single shots with his bracers. He is highly trained in the arts of concentration and meditation, and is also an expert in various hand-weapons including the bo, nunchakus, and shuriken.

Shang is probably faster, Batman even at peak has problems pushing himself to bullet timing levels

Shang may be faster but I think Batman hits harder, Batman has put some huge guys on their rear

I think his mastery of Qi (cosmic energy that buffs his strength, speed, durability etc.) makes him superhuman at least during fights

oh, and IMO neither Shang nor Batman can truly bullet-time like in The Matrix, they just dodge before the bad guy shoots

Spiritual is a good term, there's no proof of what Qi is or isn't, and that's honestly not the point, I don't care if it's magic or metaphysical or whatever

point is it raises Shang's physical ability to a superhuman level

that sounds pretty "magical" to me unless you're using magic in a specific sorcery-related sense of the word, then a lot of fantasy powers wouldn't be magic i.e. cosmic, the Force etc.

i don't care for Majority Rules or Bandwagons. It's not a logical way of deciding on something, anyway.

I honestly think he's a better fighter than Shang, being a master of hundreds of styles while Shang is only a master of a few. He also trumps him physically. "

Wiki: Although it has never been determined exactly how extensive Shang-Chi's fighting skills are, he has beaten numerous superhuman opponents. Even without having any superhuman powers, he has on several occasions matched other Marvel superhumans such as Spider-Man and the Thing. In one instance, he indefinitely held off a crowd of at least 30 super criminals for Captain America with help from Falcon. After the death of fellow Hero for Hire, Orka, Shang managed to single-handedly take out the Headmen including a reprogrammed Doombot, although his hands were injured badly after the battle. All of these incidents were empty handed.

the writers would just have batman win because he's the more popular character

Shang Chi wins.  His Chi Goong will be too much for Bats to comprehend and handle.

and once you get past 10 or 12 styles how much do those other 100 something help you?  if you know one really all-around style, then you'd be as ready for anything as someone who's studied hundreds of styles.  and master of kung fu to me means he's the master of all chinese martial arts.  china's got so many styles and they are so varied that i dont think knowing anything outside of kung fu would make you any better of a fighter. "

The other hundred help out a lot, taking the most effective techniques from them and using them to your advantage in a fight. I'm aware of China having so many forms, but I doubt there's a hundred of them. I could be wrong, though.  Shang Chi is an excellent fighter, but I haven't seen anything from him that would make me think that he could beat Batman in a H2H fight.

As far as the writing goes like static said.

Shang Chi is not very popular and I dont see him ever being popular but I've seen him deflect a punch from the thing..Even when it was weaker its still a good feat for someone who is just a human
