Poll Sauron vs Harry Potter verse (25 votes)

Sauron low difficulty 56%
Voldemort low difficulty 0%
Sauron mid difficulty 20%
Voldemort mid difficulty 8%
Sauron high difficulty 12%
Voldemort low difficulty 4%

Sauron appears with the Ring in the northern regions of Britain and begins rampaging. Voldemort takes a team of 100 Death Eaters and goes north to challenge his evilness. 1 hour prep time for each, full power and all feats/scaling for both. Obviously morals on.

So this is just Voldemort and 100 Death Eaters vs Sauron, not the whole HP verse?

Sauron wins by implied power.

Pretty sure Sauron stomps.

Even as a spirit, Sauron ragdolled gandolf in desolation of smaug. The only one even mentionable here with gandolf is voldy himself, that is not enough..

These humans all become slaves or killed by Lord Sauron.

Harry Potter wizards are bad matchups for LOTR magical characters as they have a tonne of hax that they have no defence against. A simple transfiguration spell and suddenly there fighting a cup instead of Sauron.

Sauron stomps if we just go by implied power though.

Sauron immediately turns Voldermort to his side with promises of true immortality. Sauron then leads Voldermort and his Death Eaters in their war against the Wizarding World.

Sauron is a shapeshifter himself. One could argue he'd just transform back to his normal state. His true form is also a disembodied spirit and I don't believe Harry Potter spells can transmute intangible beings. That is why they have specialized spells like the Patronus charm to deal with Dementors.

@doofasa: Your point is ridiculous. None of those spells are ever used in combat. So assume they can’t be. Sauron stomps.

They have been used on multiple people before, so why would we assume they can't be? There are also specific counter curses/spells in HP verse that block things like transfiguration, all of which Sauron doesn't have or know.

Also transfiguration is only one of a plethora of options they could use, fiendfyre could potentionally harm him or the ring, a simple levitation charm and Sauron is now hanging upside down in the air, they could attempt to mind control Sauron with an Imperius curse (unlikely though due to Sauron own significant subjugation prowess) etc. Add to that the wizards can just keep apparating around effectively making them untagable to Sauron.

Once again, Sauron by implied power absolutely stomps, however his lack of resistance to what the wizards can cast combined with him being unable to tag them in the first place means he'd lose.

@noah_ouellette: Transfiguration has been used in combat by MacGonagall, Dumbledore, and Voldemort himself.

@doofasa:

I'm giving Sauron the benefit of the doubt that he has some resistance to these spells because he's a higher being. By feats, HP wizards have the upper hand.

Sauron should win, but he's damn near featless.

@last0fth3risen: Yeah based off his implied power I would expect him to be resistant to pretty much everything.

Does he have a ranged attack that you can remember? If not he’s never getting close enough to the wizards to kill them.

OP says all feats so Sauron gets his showings from the movies. He's basically an Obscurus with powerful and casual telekinesis that doesn't have the weakness of disappearing when the "host body" dies.

It's also worth noting that Voldermort would never in a million years be able to destroy the One Ring. Not just because it is difficult to do so (dragonfire can melt the rings of power but Gandalf says that not even the flames of the mightiest dragon to ever live could likely harm the One Ring. This suggests Fiendfyre won't necessarily work) but because Voldermort is exactly the sort of person that would be seduced into trying to use it. Just like Isildur he may have intentions of destroying it at the start but he'd be enthralled by it almost immediately.
