it was never a retcon. HOTU was always fragmentary glimpse of TOAA's power per Starlin. Unless you can find a scan in Marvel: The End that says otherwise

Thanos absorbed one universe in the End and the LT in that universe, Starlin recently emphasized on there's a different LT in every universe, thus making LT universal

Also this is more of a false assumption of recton people try to use anyways. All that means is it was temporary and allowed him a brief moment into his power, as it was not permanent. Nothing more.

Also Thanos does mention other universes/realms with his omni-reality power, how he is one with all beyond material and abstract realms even to realms he himself did not know existed. He then absorbed all that he was/sensed. Try again

Michael probably becuz his God's Infinite Power, and Thanos only got a glimpse of the TOAA power, which was just a small amount.
