TELEPATHY ONLY

So this is Jean as she was portrayed back when she first was Marvel Girl up until the space ship crash before the Phoenix went to her. This is Betsy as she originally was, before any body and power swapping. Only showings from those periods (60s-70s for Jean) will count for the girls.

Jean being trained gives her the win in my opinion . Psylocke was advanced for a beginner, but she was still needed to be trained by 90s Jean. And since Jean didn’t really have a chance to improve her telepathy between the Phoenix saga and gold team, I’d say she was about as skilled then as she was in the 90s.

Jean should win a healthy majority

I’d back Betsy for a slight majority. She had more impressive showings in terms of raw power and was sufficiently skilled enough.

Didn't Betsy get past Juggernaut's helmet or something early on?

Eh...Marvel Girl Jean has been retconned into having some crazy feats even if we ignore Jeen. Plus theres actual training to consider.

I'd say Jean for a small majority.

@koays: I actually meant to limit it to literally just her showings from those actual years irl so that the changes and other later work that covers Marvel girl is excluded but didn't wanna outright exclude them because not all of them have her portrayed as a psychic with super great potential. How do I state it in the OP lol. "Material written for Marvel Girl outside of the 60s-70s are to be excluded if they portray her as an omega level or potentially super powerful psychic" ? Hmm tricky...I specifically worded it as "Only showings from those periods will count for the girls" to try and ignore the newer material on her that has her as a very powerful psychic haha

@marvelfan1992: Easy. "Marvel Girl limited to 60s feats and anything that reinforces the fact that Psylocke gets stomped...again"

@koays: was thinking of that but then people would just assume 60s version fo Jean that still includes feats/showings written later on about 60s Jean lol. But yeah I suppose that is more specific. thanks

@koays: I mean Psylocke would lose because of a lack of training right?

I’m not sure how large Muir island is, but Betsy has scanned the entire island before. In comparison, Marvel Girl used her telepathy to try to contact Beast, who is 3,000 miles away from her. She succeeds briefly, but then loses him on Beasts end.

As far as fighting other psychics, a I can’t remember any notable ones except Sinister. A battle she lost, one that Jean won with no telepathy or minimum level telepathy. (A little unclear in Inferno) Going off of Marvel Girl, she has fought Mesmero in a stalemate.

Let’s also not forget that Marvel Girl has acted as a funnel for Xavier when he transferred the personalities of the worlds minds into one being through her into Alex to supercharge it and then Scott to direct it to fight off the Z’Nox.

@elpendejo: Eh....sure. But lets be honest. Using original canon, at this point they both suck. Just jean has had buffs added to her and has been fleshed out more. She also had a couple of strong showings as well....though nothing that really trump here

@elpendejo: My Headcanon says no. We know Xavier was training Jean and that Betsy had very little knowledge even well into the 90s. So clearly Jean should know more.

But canon wise its a bit hard to argue one over the other except where power is concerned.

@koays: I feel like Jean at that time would’ve been close to earlly 90s Jean in terms of skill since she didn’t have a chance to really improve in skill from the Phoenix saga to the 90s due to being in the cacoon and losing telepathy.

Jean has better feats and training. Psylocke can only win in a purely physical confrontation

Didn't 70s Jean beat Mesmero, put the Hulk to sleep and hurt juggernaut. Can't remember much of Psylockes feats from that era
